  1. This new case concerns a young english woman who wanted to reinforce the density of her eyebrows. It is all about the consequences of an over plucking. " I plucked the tops of my eyebrows when I was very young (I wanted a low and straight style) and they have never grown back the same and are very sparse now sadly with patches and hardly any ends to them. " The surgery was performed in two steps. The aim was to obtain a huge density without taking the risk of damaging the existing hair. The result is very good in terms of density as well as the aspect. Here is a commentary of this patient, one year after the intervention: « As you can see my eyebrows are now much improved, with a lot of hair now coming through from the 2nd surgery! I am very pleased with the result of the growth and the shape! Many thanks! » For those who like this technique, the important points to respect are the following ones: the choice of the hair according to their natural curve, the orientation of this curve in the right way and the incisions very tangentials.
  2. This patient is 57 years old and has a maximal hairloss on the crown area. The aim was to obtain a maximal density in one intervention. The area measured was of +- 75 cm2. The number of grafts reached (3033) has allowed the placement of more or less 40 FUT per cm2. The grafts were almost disposed as the original orientation. The detail of the grafts is the following: 3033 grafts for 7823 hair, 193 FU1, 1361 FU2, 1027 FU3, 433 FU4 and 19 FU5. The result is excellent. That shows the fact that it is not necessary to would like to achieve an original density to obtain a « normal » result. But we could plan another little hair transplant with the FUE technique at the central of the swirl to reinforce the density.
  3. I did not installed a photo studio and as the flash is central that gives a shadow. I'm sorry and I thank you for the remark I will try to find a solution!
  4. There is no second surgery foreseen for now. Nevertheless, we discussed about the option to cover the central area which does not have any grafts. So, he will certainly come back for a second surgery.
  5. This patient is 29 years old. Two unfavorable factors: fineness of the hair (65 microns) and a low rate of hair/graft (2 hair/FU). Two favorable factors: high density of the donor area (97 FU/cm2) and elasticity +++. Result of the cutting : 3916 grafts, 7987 Hairs, 867 FU1, *2125 FU2, 830 FU3, 95 FU4. We decided to spread the hair transplant in two parts: 2500 grafts on the front area and 1400 grafts on the crown. The final result is very natural. It is often the case with very thin hair. In spite of both unfavorable factors, the density obtained was very appreciated.
  6. First of all, I'm sorry for the delay. A hair loss centered on the side burns is quite frequently by the woman and generally it is accompanied by a hair loss of the temples. In this situation, the rarefaction was mainly caused by a mini lifting she has had few months ago.
  7. This patient is 50 years old and has had a little lifting 2 years ago. Those pictures show the kind of result it is possible to obtain in one intervention with a hair transplant. The density of the incisions was of 45 grafts/cm2. The regrowth was excellent also for the FUT1. The final aspect is dense and very natural.
  8. In this particular situation I think that his young age isn't a problem. And here are the reasons why.. For this patient, the data of the problem are clear enough: the limits of the areas which will become bald are known, so it will not be a surprise at this level. On the other hand, the donor area is very dense and hair are lightly curly. So, in this case we can treat the patient as he was 10 years older: treating the front area first, and then the back area, if desired. The major part of the grafts was placed on the front area, the first as well as the second time. The global balance of the grafts if thus well guaranteed. When we warn the youth against the transplant of the crown, we insist on the fact that we will have to mobilize too many grafts at the back area and they probably will need them on the front area in the future... I repeat again, in this case, I've treated the patient's baldness just like if he was at a more advanced level.
  9. This patient is 26 years old. His father also began to lose his hair very young. The first hair transplant was performed on 2008. We reached 3190 grafts for 7447 hair (599 FU1, 1281 FU2, 988 FU3, 302 FU4, 20 FU5) The pictures show the grafted area at this moment. The second hair transplant was performed on 2009. We reached 2119 grafts for 4711 hair (352 FU1, 1030 FU2, 619 FU3, 103 FU4, 4 FU5) I have reinforced the anterior and the crown areas. The trichophytic scar also gave excellent result. Both surgeries were performed with the FUT technique. The final aspect is quite natural and the density obtained is very satisfying.
  10. This patient is 50 years old. He wanted to cover the front area first. He was asking for 2000 grafts. Finally we reached 2358 grafts for 5180 hairs FU. (490 FU1, 1007 FU2, 567 FU3, 166 FU4, 19 FU5, 54 Double FU). He's using Finasteride and the hair loss is stabilized. The elasticity of his skin was very good so the scar is thin. The final result is very nice.
  11. This patient is 60 years old. He is a perfect candidate for the hair transplant despite he is presenting a level 7. The patient has some cautious approaches very reasonable. He does not want a too big density and would like to favor big areas to cover and obtain a natural aspect. Another favorable factor is that his hair is “salt and pepper”, thick and curly. Thanks to a good elasticity and despite a low density of 72 FU/cm2, we reach 2433 grafts for 5757 hair (476 FU1, 961 FU2, 707 FU3, 176 FU4, 82 FU5, 31 Double FU). 2000 grafts are distributed with a quite low density on the anterior part (25 to 30 grafts for cm2 depends on the areas) and with a light density of 10 grafts per cm2 on the crown. The final result is very satisfying, the aspect is extremely natural and the visible density is impressive for a limited number of grafts. The trichophytic scar also gives excellent result.
  12. This patient is 48 years old. He has had a consultation because he wanted to cover the whole scalp. The attempts he has are reasonable in term of density. He especially searches a natural aspect of the transplant. Eleven months ago, the first hair transplant took place. Thanks to a very good laxity of the donor area, it was possible to reach 3612 grafts for 8718 hairs. (532 FU1, 1496 FU2, 1149 FU3, 428 FU4, 7 FU5). You will be able to visualize the result which is very natural. I just performed a second surgery on the patient. This time we were concentrated on the crown. Be patient… in a few months I’ll post the final result! I take the opportunity of this post to wish you the best for the Year 2011…
  13. Here we have a 47 years old patient. It was hard for him to assume his baldness, and he thought a lot about performing a hair transplant. He wanted to cover the frontal area. The surgery was performed on the 27/01/2010. During the first consultation, we decided to proceed to an ASMAP hair transplant. The scalp laxity was very good. Details about the surgery 3612 grafts for 8718 hairs - FU1 532, FU2 1496, FU3 1149, FU4 428, FU5 7. Very nice result.
  14. This patient is 30 years old. The procedure was done two years ago. Details: 2788 FUT for 6546 hair. (454 FU1, 1195 FU2, 854 FU3, 285 FU4). Here is his comment after two years "Dear Dr Devroye and Team, Its been 2 years since my hair transplant and I can honestly say it is one of the best decisions I've ever made. The hair loss in the location of the transplant has stabilized. Long gone is the endless torcher I put myself through, believing I'd be bald before my 30s. Through this hair transplant I've managed the regain my confidence in attracting the opposite sex. For this I thank you." Ps: Unfortunately the quality of the last pictures is not very good because there were taken by the patient.
  15. This patient is 49 years old. 15 years ago, he has already had a hair transplant. The results weren't so bad but the artificial character of the hair transplant was becoming detectable. The donor area was very damaged. A hair transplant of 2475 grafts for 5295 hair was realized. Details: 521 FU1, 1210 FU2, 557 FU3 152 FU4 and 15 FU5. The result appeared quite quickly and the patient was very glad. The scar is still expanded but better than it was before. This should probably be corrected later with the FUE technique. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any other information!
  16. Good morning, Thank you for you comment. I've also performed an ASMAP for the second surgery. To answer your question regarding the lake of donor limitations, I can answer yes; I was limited due to the fact that both sessions of surgeries were very close. And also because the density was smaller than before. It is on the patient's demand that I performed the second surgery so close in time. This patient is a doctor and was aware of the risks but decided to have the second surgery. Actually the risk was to get a 'non perfect' scar. But, despite everything, the result was very satisfying and the scar obtained after the second surgery is pretty normal.
  17. Thank you very much for your comments. The patient didn't follow any medical treatment and the interval between both surgeries was about 6 months.
  18. This patient wanted to treat quickly and completely his important baldness. Ideally, he wished to cover the whole bald area in one surgery. Finally, two surgeries were necessary to reach the aim fixed. The elasticity was very good; with an excellent density (90 FU/cm?). Thus, we have managed reaching 3418 grafts for 6455 hairs during the first surgery. During the second one, we reached 1987 grafts for 4786 hairs. Details regarding the cutting: 1049 FU1, 1976 FU2 1402 FU3, 451 FU4, 45 FU5. During the first surgery, we have grafted areas 1-2 and 3. The area 4 was grafted with less density. The second hair transplant consisted in covering area 5. Due to the short time between both surgeries, the result after one year was amazing. NB : The measures of the areas and the density were realized with the help of my program called HAIRMES. This program can be provided by the computer scientist who created it. Personally, I do not make any benefits on the price of this program which is sold at a very low price.
  19. This patient is 49 years old. He had his first hair transplant in Los Angeles, but was disappointed about the results: his hairline wasn’t symmetrical and the hair loss had progressively put on the lights the pluggy aspect of the grafts. We decided to not remove any graft. The strategy was to place little grafts throug the big grafts existing to make the pluggy aspect disappear. A second hair transplant is programmed soon. The crown will be covered and I will probably come back on the anterior zone already grafted. The aspect obtained looks particularly natural. The density reached is due to the old grafts which are now undetectable. The donor area was quite rich: 69 fu for cm?. The distribution of the different grafts (see close up of the donor area) was of FU1 (18 %), of FU2 (42 %), of FU3 (36 %) and of FU4 (5 %). By the way, the result of the cutting was the same : it shows that the integrity of the follicles had been respected. The cutting gave: 2614 grafts for 6027 hairs 521 FU1 (20 %) 1028 FU2 (39 %) 810 FU3 (31 %) 255 FU4 (10 %). The transplanted area was measured seriously with the help of the Hairmes program. The area covered is about 111 cm? so an average of placement around 24 grafts or 54 hairs per cm?. The current result is very satisfying. I will complete this post after the second surgery of this patient.
  20. This patient has 39 years old and was losing his hair since a long time. As it is often the case, all the men of his family have a similar problem of hair loss. When I met the patient during the first consultation, we decided to proceed to an asmap hair transplant: Procedure: FUT Area: Front area Number of grafts 2652 grafts for 5561 hairs - FU1 515, FU2 1365, FU3 772. The result is very nice, as you can see on the pictures and the patient was very satisfied with the density obtained.
  21. Here we have a 45 years old patient who is losing hair for many years and who has a very good density on his donor area (93 FU/cm?). During the first consultation, we decided to proceed to a hair transplant in two steps: 1/ the front area, 2/ the back area. He had his first hair transplant in 2009 and after one year, he came back for a second procedure. We have been able to see the current results and the patient was very satisfied with the density obtained. During the second surgery, not a single graft was placed on the front area. All the grafts were placed on the crown. Assessments: 1st surgery: 3240 grafts for 6822 hairs - FU 1.499, FU2 1977, FU3 687 FU4 77 2nd surgery: 2170 grafts for 4780 hairs - FU 1.345, FU2 1168, FU3 529 FU4 128 Dr Jean Devroye
  22. Evolution of the surgery-1 year after! Here are a couple of pictures so to illustrate the result, and to update the post.
