  1. 2 years post-op // Update Please note that all post-operative pictures have been taken and sent in by the patient.
  2. You are welcome Gasthoerer, thank you and to det9925 as well for participating to the discussion.
  3. Baldrick, Dolph, Spanker, Gasthoerer, thank you for the comments and for the positive feedback. Concerning the making of the slits: this is a pattern that I normally follow during all my procedures. The small incisions made in the very first hairline are coronal slits. Inserted in this kind of incisions, the future single hair will be allowed to follow a slightly horizontal movement - emulating the natural behavior of native hair. The other incisions, after the hairline, are sagittal slits and are intended to accommodate the bigger grafts - double and triple. The vertical pattern of these incisions will allow for an increased illusion of volume and density. The small line that you have noticed is actually a purely "organizational" indication for my assistants, so that during the placement phase they know when to switch from double to triple grafts implantation. It is basically the dividing line between double and triple grafts. You can see below another example, this is a patient who had this procedure during this week. Lower implantation density than the case posted here, but same slits pattern. Hope this helps, Jean Devroye
  4. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 28 years old, NW III, losing hair since the age of 18, no hair loss history in his family. ✓ Taking Finasteride 1mg since one year and a half before the surgery. ✓ Medium caliber hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. ✓ Low % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT This young man came to visit me to find a solution for his receding hairline and temple corners. During the pre-op consultation, we agreed upon a FUE procedure consisting in 2000-2200 grafts. Eventually, we were able to harvest 2203 grafts, including a very important number of singles (678) that were used to rebuild his very first hairline. At the 8th post-op month mark, the patient already experienced a noticeable regrowth. After one year and four months, he submitted the pictures below, which show very natural results that make him completely satisfied about the work done. SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 2203 grafts ✓ Technique: FUE ✓ FUE scoring and extractions executed with my WAW system, now widely used in the sphere of FUE. It consists of a very precise pedal that enables to control the movement of the punch, that I also designed myself. The main advantage is to reduce substantially the number of damaged and transected hair, thus to raise the quality of the procedure. The system is now used worldwide and several dozens of surgeons or centres are already using it. ✓ Incisions: 40-45/cm2 ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 689 Single FUE grafts ☞ 781 Double FUE grafts ☞ 571 Triple FUE grafts ☞ 162 Quadruple FUE grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 4612 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 2.09 Dr. Jean Devroye
  5. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 52 years old, NW V, losing hair since the age of 30, with a hair loss history in his family (paternal and maternal side). He had two previous FUE procedures in another clinic (n° of grafts unknown). ✓ Started taking Minoxidil 5% since the surgery. ✓ Thin hair. ✓ Fragile follicular units. ✓ Normal % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT This 52 year-old gentleman wanted to repair his two previous FUE procedures, which provided him with a sparse head of hair, with a clearly insufficient density. He decided to undergo a FUT procedure, since he didn’t want to shave his donor area for professional reasons. 3627 grafts were finally extracted and implanted to address the frontal, mid-scalp and vertex areas, obtaining a very satisfying ratio hair/graft (2.31). One year after the surgery, the patient submitted the pictures below. Needless to say that he’s enthusiastic about his results so far. He’s currently contemplating a second procedure to add more density to his vertex, which was implanted at a lower density during the first one. We will obviously keep you updated in case he will proceed with his second session. SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 3627 grafts ✓ Technique: FUT ✓ Incisions: 40-45/cm2 ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 474 Single FUT grafts ☞ 1776 Double FUT grafts ☞ 1132 Triple FUT grafts ☞ 245 Quadruple FUT grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 8402 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 2.31 Dr. Jean Devroye
  6. Thanks for your comment Dolph1969. As a general rule, it is the convergence of a good scalp laxity and a good donor density that allows to harvest 4000 grafts or more in one session. This is one of the advantages of FUT, since in general the number of grafts attained is higher - which consequently gives more dense results.
  7. Hello spitfire uk, Yes, this was an unshaven FUT procedure. The patient requested it because of professional reasons. Concerning English patients: yes, I do receive quite a lot of them. London and Brussels are very well connected by train - it is just a 2 hours trip - or by plane if they come from other parts of the UK. In general, the majority of my patients come from abroad. That's why I have equipped the clinic with bedrooms, in order to provide them with a pleasant and comfortable stay. Thank you for commenting.
  8. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 40 years old, NW IV, losing hair since the age of 30, with a hair loss history in his family (paternal and maternal side). ✓ Started taking Minoxidil 5% since the surgery. ✓ Very thin hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. ✓ High % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT This 40 year old patient wanted to restore his hairline and frontal area. Given that he was not willing to take Finasteride, we decided to cover also the mid-scalp to prevent his hair loss potential progression. A very important FUT was realized and we have obtained an excellent number of grafts and ratio hair/graft. 6 months after the surgery, the change in the patient's look is already obvious. Please note that the post-operative pictures were taken and sent by the patient himself. SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 4565 grafts ✓ Technique: FUT ✓ Incisions: 40-45/cm2 ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 417 Single FUT grafts ☞ 2063 Double FUT grafts ☞ 1550 Triple FUT grafts ☞ 535 Quadruple FUT grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 11333 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 2.48 Dr. Jean Devroye
  9. 6 months, 9 months, 1 year & 2 years post-op // Update * * Please note that the patient is taking Minoxidil since the surgery, and that the post-op pictures were taken and sent in by the patient himself. Please also note that the post-op picts included in the first post show the result 4 months after the procedure (not 6 as stated in the description). Grafts breakdown: 499 FUT1 1628 FUT2 1235 FUT3 494 FUT4
  10. 6103 grafts transplanted during two FUT sessions. 1st session: 3722 grafts --> front + midscalp 2nd session: 2381 grafts --> crown Please note that the patient is taking Finasteride and Minoxidil since the first procedure.
  11. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 27 year old female, suffering from Traction Alopecia since 8-9 years. ✓ No medications. ✓ Thin hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT This young female patient came to visit me to discuss about a possible solution for her temples thinning, due to a traction alopecia caused by wearing hair extensions during 8-9 years. During that time, she had tried several solutions such as lotions or alternative treatments, without any remarkable success. During the consultation, we agreed upon a FUT procedure. Due to the excellent density of the strip removed, the patient finally received a total of 2693 grafts. She experienced a very early regrowth, as at the 4th month mark the change was already satisfactory. After 11 months, the texture of the grafted hair became softer, providing the patient with very natural and dense results. Please note that the result pictures were sent by the patient. You can also find her interesting and detailed experience at the following link: International Hair Loss Forum - sam213 : 2600 FUT - Dr Devroye - 15.01.2016 SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 2693 grafts ✓ Technique: FUT ✓ Incisions: 40-45/cm2, performed by Dr. Devroye ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 896 Single FUT grafts ☞ 1346 Double FUT grafts ☞ 434 Triple FUT grafts ☞ 17 Quadruple FUT grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 4958 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 1.84 Dr. Jean Devroye
  12. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 50 years old, NW IV, losing hair since the age of 35, with a hair loss history in his family (paternal side). ✓ No medications. ✓ Medium hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. ✓ Normal % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT Given the patient’s exceptional donor area, we agreed upon a FUE procedure consisting in 3000-3200 grafts to rebuild his hairline, while improving the overall density in his frontal area and crown. One year after the surgery, the patient came back for a check-up and I was pleased to see the great yield and results he had achieved so far. The patient is currently considering a second procedure during the upcoming months in order to further increase his frontal and mid-scalp density. We will not hesitate to update this post if he will proceed with the surgery. SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 3090 grafts ✓ Technique: FUE ✓ FUE scoring and extractions executed with my WAW system, now widely used in the sphere of FUE. It consists of a very precise pedal that enables to control the movement of the punch, that I also designed myself. The main advantage is to reduce substantially the number of damaged and transected hair, thus to raise the quality of the procedure. The system is now used worldwide and several dozens of surgeons or centres are already using it. ✓ Incisions: 35-40/cm2, performed by Dr. Devroye ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 524 Single FUE grafts ☞ 2067 Double FUE grafts ☞ 486 Triple FUE grafts ☞ 13 Quadruple FUE grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 6168 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 2.00 Dr. Jean Devroye
  13. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 49 years old, NW IIIa, losing hair since the age of 25, with a hair loss history in his family (paternal side). ✓ Started taking Minoxidil and Finasteride 1mg since the surgery. ✓ Thin hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. ✓ Normal % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT 49 years old patient who came to visit me worried about his thinning: on the anterior and on the central area. A very important FUT was realized and we have obtained an excellent number of grafts and ratio hair/graft. The anterior area was recovered, as well as the central one. Density was not exaggerated to prevent a potential, future loss. The patient experienced an early regrowth, as at the 6th month mark the results were already remarkable. 2 years after the surgery, the change in the patient's look is apparent. Please note that the post-operative pictures were taken and sent by the patient himself. SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 3616 grafts ✓ Technique: FUT ✓ Incisions: 40-45/cm2, performed by Dr. Devroye ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 529 Single FUT grafts ☞ 1833 Double FUT grafts ☞ 954 Triple FUT grafts ☞ 300 Quadruple FUT grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 8257 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 2.28 Dr. Jean Devroye
  14. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 29 years old, Diffuse pattern alopecia (Ludwig II), losing hair since the age of 20, no hair loss history in his family. ✓ Had 2 previous FUE surgeries in another clinic, 3000 grafts already transplanted. ✓ No medications. ✓ Medium hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. ✓ High % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT During the pre-op consultation, the patient expressed his will to have a combination of FUT and FUE in order to transplant the maximum number of grafts in one single session. Given that he already had 2 previous FUE HTs in another clinic, and considering his diffuse pattern alopecia, I found this option very appropriate for his characteristics. Finally, the patient received 5814 grafts in two consecutive surgery days. I have used the single grafts to rebuild the very first hairline, while the other grafts to considerably boost his frontal, mid-scalp and crown density. 6 months after the surgery, the results are already noticeable and the change on his look is becoming apparent. We look forward to welcoming back the patient during the next months, so that we’ll be able to provide you with an update and better quality pictures of this interesting case. SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 5814 grafts ✓ Technique: COMBO FUT (4658 FUs) + FUE (1156 FUs) ✓ FUE scoring and extractions executed with my WAW system, now widely used in the sphere of FUE. Devroye ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 1009 Single FUT + 63 Single FUE = 1072 Single grafts ☞ 1223 Double FUT + 490 Double FUE grafts = 1713 Double grafts ☞ 1268 Triple FUT + 529 Triple FUE grafts = 1797 Triple grafts ☞ 1158 Quad. FUT + 74 Quad. FUE grafts = 1232 Quadruple grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 10569 (FUT) + 2926 (FUE) = 13495 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 2.27 (FUT) + 2.53 (FUE) = 2.40 Dr. Jean Devroye
  15. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 31 years old, NW IIa, losing hair since the age of 20, with a hair loss history in his family (paternal side). ✓ Started taking Finasteride 1mg, 3 months before the surgery. ✓ Medium hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. ✓ Low % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT The patient came to visit me worried about his receding frontal area. To restore his hairline and temple corners, I have used an important number of single follicular units in order to give a natural but at the same time dense look. 2s, 3s and 4s grafts have been placed behind the hairline to give fullness and coverage. One year and two months after the surgery, the patient came back for a check-up and was enthusiastic about his results. SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 1793 grafts ✓ Technique: FUT ✓ Incisions: 35-40/cm2, performed by Dr. Devroye ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 678 Single FUT grafts ☞ 706 Double FUT grafts ☞ 358 Triple FUT grafts ☞ 51 Quadruple FUT grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 3368 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 1.87 Dr. Jean Devroye
  16. This would depend mainly on the patient's wishes. Personally, I would spread them through the entire transplanted area to increase the overall density in a homogenous way.
  17. Thanks for your comments andy and mosd. The last picture showing the patient's donor tells that it may still be possible to extract some grafts. At least about a thousand. This is one of the advantages of FUE: it allows to rebalance the densities of both donor and recipient areas. When a homogeneous density among the two zones is achieved, even if it's not or not anymore maximal, the patient tends to be highly satisfied.
  18. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 60 years old, NW VI, losing hair since the age of 30, with a hair loss history in his family. ✓ No medications. ✓ Thin hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. ✓ High % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT Given the extended hair loss this patient suffered, I proposed him a plan consisting in two separated sessions. The first one, with FUT technique, with the aim of restoring his hairline and frontal area (with a very conservative approach). The second session, with FUE technique, in order to restore his vertex and upper mid-scalp. One year after the last procedure, the patient has sent the pictures shown hereunder and is amazed by the great results he has achieved, frankly unexpected considering his initial situation. SURGERIES DETAILS 1st SURGERY – JUNE 2015 ✓ 2867 grafts ✓ Technique: FUT ✓ Incisions: 30-35/cm2, performed by Dr. Devroye ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 616 Single FUT grafts ☞ 1223 Double FUT grafts ☞ 868 Triple FUT grafts ☞ 160 Quadruple FUT grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 6306 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 2.20 2nd SURGERY – APRIL 2016 ✓ 2606 grafts ✓ Technique: FUE ✓ FUE scoring and extractions executed with my WAW system, now widely used in the sphere of FUE. It consists of a very precise pedal that enables to control the movement of the punch, that I also designed myself. The main advantage is to reduce substantially the number of damaged and transected hair, thus to raise the quality of the procedure. 19. PATIENT'S DETAILS ✓ 40 years old, NW VI, with a hair loss history in his family. ✓ Had a small procedure in 1997. ✓ No medications. ✓ Medium hair. ✓ Normal follicular units. ✓ Low % of hair in telogen phase. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT When we performed the surgery the patient was 40 years old. 15 years ago, he had performed a small intervention (more or less 50 grafts were transferred). First of all, I removed more or less 30 grafts. One month later, we decided to perform a surgery with the FUT technique because there was already a scar in the donor area. Thanks to a good elasticity and a good density the number of grafts placed was important: 4060 grafts for 9778 hair. The situation at 6 months was encouraging. At 9, it was very good and 5 years after the surgery the density is still apparently important. This case perfectly shows how a well performed hair transplant and a "strategic" hairstyle can hide an important baldness for years. The patient would like to undergo a second procedure in the future to restore his vertex, and we'll not hesitate to update this post in this case. SURGERY DETAILS ✓ 4063 grafts ✓ Technique: FUT ✓ Incisions: 30-35/cm2, performed by Dr. Devroye ✓ Grafts Breakdown: ☞ 634 Single FUT grafts ☞ 1711 Double FUT grafts ☞ 1138 Triple FUT grafts ☞ 577 Quadruple FUT grafts ✓ Total number of Hair: 9778 ✓ Average Hair/Graft: 2.40 Dr. Jean Devroye
