  1. I did some more research on this one. Finpecia is manufactured by Cipla, an Indian company. Their patent laws allow for the manufacturing of patent drugs as long as the process is different, if I interpreted the info. correctly. I found prices as low as 100 1mg. tabs for US 45.00. This, of course, raises a lot of questions. Do you really know what you are getting when purchasing meds from another country and over the web? How do their standards for manufacturing drugs compare to the U.S.? I hope we get some more feedback. Terry.
  2. morehairs, I looked at the website on Finpecia. Since Minoxidil is sold in it's generic form, this could be a real savings over buying Propecia, if it's legit. I'll wait and see if we can get more info. Terry.
  3. I saw the Dateline show and was pretty much unimpressed. I think the ht won hands down. JohnH, I believe the lasercomb retails for about $625.00, although you can probably pick one up on e-bay much cheaper. Terry.
  4. Steve, I have to agree with Arfy on his reply to you. There are many things to consider before commiting yourself to a procedure. One of the purposes of this forum is to make you aware of the many pitfalls in the ht industry. I know it sounds redundant, but you need to research and research some more before making a decision. Good luck. Terry.
  5. Steve, Dr's True and Dorin based in NYC. Recommended on this site. Also I believe Dr. Bernstein in NYC. Look on The Hair Restoration Network under "Find a Physician". Terry.
  6. NYCman, I think you got solid advice from the second doctor. Your experience underscores what happens in the ht industry. This should prove to you that research is your first line of defense. Given your age and current hair loss, you have plenty of time to make an informed decision. I would stay on this site and learn from other member's experiences before committing to a surgery. Terry.
  7. Smithy, I had never heard of Advecia until today. I looked at their website. Seems Advecia is an all herbal product designed to do what Propecia does. I would beware of it. I think Propecia is a better bet. Maybe we'll get some member feedback on this one. Terry.
  8. Kansas, listen to these replies. These guys are speaking from experience. Do your research! Terry.
  9. KROME, first of all, yes ht's do work and yes, there are bad ht's being done in the industry. If you navigate this site, you can educate yourself and then make an informed decision. Hair transplantation has come a long way in the last few years. Ht's producing natural results are performed everyday. But beware, not every ht surgeon or clinic is capable of this. Research this site and your every question will be answered. As to your second question, your hair will recede further depending on your age and genetic disposition to male pattern baldness. Look at the men on both sides of your family, and that should give you a rough idea of what to expect. I would also research Minoxidil and Propecia as these can stimulate some hair growth and can possibly let you keep what you have left. Again, it depends on the person. I hope this helps you. Terry.
  10. tkerr, andy: I checked out this website. I thought it to be very interesting. It sounds like there may be some substance to these products, but I'd like to see more feedback, if any, from members who have used them. Terry.
  11. Bill, this swelling may be perfectly normal, but I would get in touch with Dr. True, just to be on the safe side! Terry.
  12. Bill, looks like you picked a winner. I'll bet you're going to have great results. Terry.
  13. kg, your crown work looks great for 7 1/2 months. Regarding your decision to have another ht, I would consult with Dr. Keene and solicit her opinion. I'm sure she would be very up-front with you. Ultimately it's your decision, but it can only benefit you to get another opinion or two. Good luck. Terry.
  14. Hey Bill, good luck and Godspeed tomorrow! You are in my prayers. You'll be fine. Terry.
  15. leborv, welcome to the forums. I have heard of these Drs., but I can't offer an opinion of either of them. Perhaps some other members can. I would suggest that you broaden your research by checking out the Drs. on this site. I would also recommend that you read previous posts by other members under the heading of Hair Transplant Experiences and Surgeon Reviews. Terry.
  16. Awesome looking hairline! I'd give that a very high rating.
  17. teenbaldie, your situation sounds a little confusing to me. I have not heard of MPB in someone of your age. I am not in any way qualified to give medical advice, but a second opinion might be beneficial to you. Perhaps your problem is dermatological in origin. Let us know how you are doing. Terry.
  18. outhere, I like your approach to your hair loss problem. I hope it's a treatable skin problem and not male pattern hair loss. That will be your lucky day. If you do have MPB, staying on the Propecia could be your salvation. As for the first doctor, I think he was well-meaning, but a bit insensitive to your needs. I started losing my hair at the age of 23. Men can and do lose their hair at a young age. I think you got great advice from your ht consult. Reassess the situation in a few years and stay on the Propecia if, indeed you do have MPB. Best of luck. Terry.
  19. justmyluck, all of us understand your anxiety and depression. Some more than others. There is always hope. Put your thoughts to rest for a while. Consult with a couple of the recommended ht docs on this site, in person, if possible. A lot of docs do repair work on the older procedures with excellent results. The only way to assess your donor hair situation is to consult with a doc, not a consultant. I'm an NW6, have had 1 ht of 2800 grafts, and still have enough for another session. Good luck, Terry.
  20. Wish, That is a really big red flag! I'd avoid it like the plague. To my knowledge, there are some good Canadian Drs. There have been some recent postings regarding ht Drs. in Canada. I don't recall the names, but I'm sure some of the other members can help you.
  21. k.p, Thanks for the reply. I wish Propecia had been around when I was your age. Now is the time to take action on your hair loss. Sounds like You're on the right track with the Propecia and Rogaine regimen, but remember they are a long-term commitment. I also wanted to add that you can really educate yourself by reading the postings of other members, both the good and the bad. Let us know what you decide to do. Good luck. Terry.
  22. k.p, Welcome to the forums. I think most everyone here would advise you to consult with as many ht Dr's as is reasonably possible. At your age it is quite possible they would not recommend an ht at this point. Both Shapiro and Epstein are highly recommended on this site. Not to sound redundant, but only a reputable ht Dr. can assess your situation.
  23. There is a post by Robert posted 7/11/2005. It's entitled Propecia 101. It describes testicular pain as being a possible side effect of taking Propecia. Play it safe and check it out with your Dr. Terry.
  24. tronxz28, I would get a second opinion. I'm assuming you saw a Mexican doctor. I've never heard of the products he suggested you use. If I were you, I would not use them. How near are you to California? Dr. James DeYarman is a recommended Dr. on this forum. He is located in San Diego. I suggest you contact him . In fact, you can even do an online consultation with him via The Hair Restoration Network. Look for him under the listings of physicians. Keep us posted. Good luck. Terry.
  25. kg007, I recently purchased Nioxin Actives shampoo and scalp therapy. Like Robert stated, the tingling is due to either a menthol ingredient or possibly eucalyptus, sort of like what you find in Listerine. Personally, I like the tingling sensation. It makes me think that something's working. I leave the scalp therapy in for 3 minutes. So far, I'm pleased with the products, but it's only been 3 weeks. Terry.
