Dr. Barghouthi literally did a biopsy that showed double the hair in the treatment than control region. Why do people keep forgetting this lol?

Yes, I can ask him if I’d like, but if he wants things to be kept private, I will keep it private. The community has brought this on themselves by constantly complaining and now he probably isn’t comfortable posting because of this.

I wish people did more useful things such as volunteer as a patient, help fundraise, etc, but as you said, if people do nothing, they are not entitled to any information.

More people will volunteer if some data is disclosed about efficacy and safety.

People will be willing to donate if some time scale/ goal and objective is given by the doctors.

Edit: I am personally waiting for Dr Bloxham's FUT trial results. If it leads to significantly less scarring then I will call that a win.

I would say mild sexual side effects. It wasn't so bad that I couldn't deal with it, but if it's not going to keep my hair then I may as well get my libido back. If my hair had not started falling out again I would have stayed on it.

EDIT: I almost forgot. I should point out the biggest reason I stopped using finasteride. Since it wasn't keeping the hair on my head I knew I was eventually going to use beard and chest grafts as they were just becoming a thing then, but the finasteride was thinning out my body hair, so that was a big incentive to stop. Also, just for reference, I was taking 1.25mg about every other day.

I'm not sure why doctors  deny that finastride causes side effects. Some doctors go a step further and ridicule people saying that they have side effects. I think people should keep measuring their DHT levels and Total Testosterone every three months and taper dosage of finastride as per DHT blood levels.

I was on it for roughly 11 years from 1998 to 2009. I think it helped a bit the first few years but after that I was definitely losing hair, so I decided there was no point to continue on it. I felt why should I suffer the side effects and unknown long term issues if it’s not solving the problem. If it was working I would have stayed on it. I think my hair loss is just too aggressive for it.

So were you having any side effects from it. I have retrograde alopecia and in need for a repair. My doctor says I can get a repair as long as I commit to finastride (oral or topical) currently on topical .25 for the last six months.

The old transplants may have worked at the time (at least as far as getting growth), but his hair has thinned out so badly which means the transplanted hair would have thinned out just as much. You can see he has a few wisps of hair still growing over the top of his head when the Dr combs over it. The back is very thin, but the top will be even thinner because those grafts would have been spread out over a larger area than the small area where it came from. I'm in the same situation. It isn't as noticeable on me because I started repair work 10 years ago before it got so bad that I didn't have any transplanted hair left, but if I hadn't had any body hair added over the past 10 years I'd have almost nothing left throughout my entire original transplanted area right now.

Here is a picture I posted of myself some time ago. It's a bit blurry, but you can see the many rows of scars with almost no hair around them because the retrograde balding went up so far. This area was once full of thick hair which is why hair was taken from that area.

    Were you on finastride ?

It is as I suspected looking more like a mixed matrix.

Some areas have no scar tissue formation visible and appear as normal skin appendeges with more hair present - these are where the punch out technique/FUE was done, and possibly where some minor superficial excision was done but it is too early to tell

In one area excised I see signs of scar tissue being laid down. There is erythema, which is seen in premature scars. There are signs of capillary dilation and inflammation induced angiogenesis which happens in early scar remodeling here.

I note that in areas of greater tension the signs of scar tissue being laid down is prevalent. In areas of lesser tension, there are signs of normal skin appendeges.

I would stand by my original speculation that it will be a matrix of scar tissue and normal skin appendeges, and ultimately not a silver bullet to yield a scarless hair transplant nor unlimited donor.

I have noticed that Dr Saifi uses a very small punch size. Maybe the absence of scar tissue in FUE punch out is due to doctors skill with a small punch than verteporfin. I think he uses 0.7mm which is also used in beard extraction that leads to almost no scar.

Honestly I'm not even going to think about these things now. I just want to see the present donor outcome first. I do also strongly suspect that we will see a mixed matrix of scar tissue and normal skin appendeges. Which would be amazing.

I don't think this is a silver bullet though, I think it will possibly be a component/improvement of the process going forward.

Even reduced scarring is a big win. Thanks for putting your hair and health on the line for this one.

@Rawkerboi thank you for your overall support from the very beginning 🙏

I'm concerned about one particular area which I marked. When I grow my hair longer, that particular area is more visible.  As you know, I'm already running out of grafts. So, as of now I've two plans-

Either A, Do nothing and see how it turns out at 12 month mark & depending on the overall condition might aim for another procedure few years later.

Or B, Would go for a little bit touch up in the hairline area at 1 year mark.

It looks good. Don't be a perfectionist. Wait and see what happens with verteporfin in the next few years.

  8. @Killian sorry for bombarding you with so many questions. But you mentioned that they excised some of the old FUT scar using FUE punches, how does that work ? Can you excise scar tissue without hair using FUE ? Won't the scar stick ? This is very interesting because if verteporfin was injected into FUE shapes scar on FUT then there is no reason it wont work on old FUE scars.

Well, I aim to have a fade, so I will be going back in again later this year if required until there is perfection when buzzed.

Remember, my goal here, is not maths nor statistical "progress". It is the visual art of improvement and ultimately the undetectable which, as with any surgery can be a multi-step process.

I have a plan in motion several steps thinking ahead, as always required. The verteporfin, if successful will be a component to the process of donor artistry.

Okay, just stay out of the sun a few days.

Send me a message offline actually if you're trying co-ordinate this too, I'll give you a hand because it can get stressful.

Edit: but maybe wait and see how I get on first Jonathan 😅 it's early days yet.

Hi Killian, thanks for putting your head and hair on the line for us.

I hope after 12 months you will shave your head to a zero guard and then post the pics. You take really high resolution photos, so after 12 months people will have a really clear idea if it works or not.

I’m on month 7 and my hair are still growing here and there

i cannot exactly tell if it is failed yet or not—or if I have been cheated

im yet to take my first PRP next week and I have switched to oral minoxidil lately as a slow dosage for starters i.e. 1.25 alternative days

so I am keeping patience and hoping that oral minoxidil combined with PRP will provide better results

You need a special centrifuge for PRP. Not all clinics have it, if PRP is made in a normal centrifuge then it is useless.

  12. Looks like good optimization of grafts. It looks like the doctors concentrated the grafts towards the left, so that when the patient combs from left to right he will be able to camouflage his bald spot. I'm sure his hair on the right will be strengthened with finastride.

@Eugenix Hair SciencesI just wanted to know if you use Dr U's Zeuss punches. I saw on YouTube that they lead to low transection as they can sense change in direction of hair root. It was also claimed that they leave lot less scars.

Frustrating to hear that, because If HT surgeons don't do trials, nobody will do it. It's not a new oral drug. Totally different situation.

Just wait for Dr Bloxham's 12 month results, we should know if verteporfin works by then. If he shows the pics of a shaved donor then other clinics will start looking into it.
