    Hello all,

I have recently shortlisted from a number of doctors to Dr De Freitas in Spain and Dr Bruno Pinto in Portugal. Their results seem to be consistently good and they have a similar proposal for my case which is about 3000 grafts in surgery 1 covering frontal third, hairline and slight temple work. They both then recommended a 2nd surgery 12 months later for about 1500 grafts on the crown.

I have already had an in person consultation with Pinto and am due to have the same with De Freitas in September. I am asking now as I feel I will still find it hard to make a decision following the consult with Dr De Freitas. I loved the consultation with Pinto. He ran extremely late on the day but spent 1.5 hours with me! He seemed very considerate, knowledgable and I would say slightly conservative overall which I don’t think is a bad thing. I know Freitas doesn’t speak much English but is able to communicate via his team who speak good English but don’t want that to influence my decision!

Does anyone prefer one doctor over the other, and if so why? Would love to get your views.

    Many thanks!

I don’t think you can go wrong with either, both very, very good. I had my surgery with Pinto in July this year and no complaints at all

Sorry this is my second time posting. I thought I was going to go with De Freitas but someone pointed out that he implants hairs in a row pattern. Once I saw the row pattern I'm really hesitant now to book with Freitas. So now I'm trying to find another surgeon. If you look closely with Freitas recently implanted grafts you will see the rows, and they are not in a random pattern.

Which one is best suited to lower hairlines?

I liked Dr. Freitas but when someone pointed out he implant rows I noticed them. However his hairlines look great.

Dr. Yaman looks promising but I’m not sure I’d travel all the way to Turkey. Maybe, maybe not.

Dr. Nader looked great but I’m not sure he would be great for my case that is looking to lower my hairline. If I'm not mistaken Nader is not great to lower hairlines. But maybe he is?

HMR Dr. Cortez looks promising but Im not sure that they make the best use of your donor hair. I’m not sure about their transection rate, and shock loss. And his hairlines look very boring. Like a half circle.

I don’t know. What do you all think? If you have drs I haven’t listed let me know.

Freitas is levels above the other DRs mentioned, not even close, especially for hairline work

Is this a hair mill even if i book with this specific doctor? Ill be travelling 6 hours to get in with him apparently he’s good from what ive been reading.

one of my friends went here, and the pre-op photos looked a mess. One of my other friends booked and cancelled going here after seeing some images, lost his deposit but saved his hair in the long run…

the first transplant I had was also with a ‘doctor’ but he didn’t know his backside from his elbow

I have found a doctor who i can book in who seems to have very good feedback and lots of experience.

The only downside is that he just oversees the operation and has 2 or 3 workers that actually do the implants.

Has anyone had any dealings with the HGC in romford , Essex?

    TIA

I wouldn’t use trustpilot respectfully, I used trustpilot and went to a complete mess off a clinic first time round. Using open, honest forums like this with real time patients are your best point for research I would say 😊

    Hi,

I narrowed down my choices to Dr. Cortez HMR, Dr. De Freitas in Spain, and Dr. Yaman in Turkey.

Which one is the best one. In particular which one is the best one for density, outcome, and hairline design and lowering?

If I’m going to get a great outcome for a lower price from Yaman I might as well do that.

Freitas is the best on that list easily imo

I have flown 2x now the day after surgery. You will be surprised how little other people will care about you at the airport. Everyone is stressed out and in their own little world, and you won't see any of these people ever again. No one will care about your hair transplant. Even people sitting next to you on the plane won't care.

Worst case, you will have a few children staring at you, but even then you shouldnt care if some 5 year old is giving you a few quick glances 🤣

Definitely keep all necessary bandages on. But even then, you really shouldn't be actively bleeding a ton after surgery.

A travelers pillow is optional depending on how long your flight is. If it is like 4 hours or less its probably not needed.

It will be too soon to wear a hat. But ask your clinic for a surgeon cap (if they don't already provide you one) and that should be enough covering.

Be careful to not bump your head on the overhead luggage compartments, but that is just common sense and applies whether you fly out 1 day after or a few days after.

You may have to go to the bathroom multiple times on the plane to apply the saline spray, but again no one else will care about this and its just not a big deal.

In short - flying post HT is not as bad as you may be imagining.

I didn’t leave my seat to spray my head, didn’t give a hoot, spraying up my seat isle 🤣🤣💦💦

I can, but I want to tread cautiously. One doc advised me to start with 0.5 mg dutasteride just once a week (cuz I am 25) while another doc recommended twice a week. Besides, I have read/heard that several poor responders to finasteride benefited from this 5+2 combo, so I wanna give that a try. If this doesn't work, I will try and up the dut dosage gradually

ah yeah, fair enough bro, good shout listen to your doctor, I hope it gives you the change you wish for  💙

I was on finasteride for 18 months without significant results. Added 0.5 mg dutasteride a week for 6 weeks, and have been on 0.5 dut twice a week (Sunday & Wednesday) and 1 mg finasteride five times a week for 1 month now.

Fortunately no side effects so far, but my hair fall hasn't stopped yet 🥲

can’t you up it to dutasteride daily and drop the fin?

I think when it comes to hair loss you don’t have tons of time to sit around and wait… I wish I would have gotten on Dutasteride right from the beginning. I took finasteride beginning at age 24 and it slowed loss in the front but never stopped it. I continued to slowly lose ground over the last decade. I am now 35 and have been on oral Dutasteride almost 2 years and it has stopped shedding. Everybody worries about side effects but I have had none… and I’m on a heavy dose. I take 2.5mg oral Dutasteride daily…. Thats right I pop 5 of the .5mg pills a day… it might seem excessive but studies show the 2.5mg was significantly more effective in hair count so I know I am giving myself the best chance of keeping hair before it’s too late. Just my opinion but obviously consult with your doctor.

that’s a super high dose! Lol

Really glad it’s working for you though with no sides!

I don’t have any sides so far, maybe a bit of bloating and gas but that could be the fact I eat like a pig 🤣

    @Big Rome,

I haven’t seen the video clip you are referring to but in my opinion, you should always consult a doctor before using ant prescription medication and exactly what quantity of it you should be using. Also, did you already try finasteride and it wasn’t effective or are you jumping right to dutasteride?

In my opinion, speak to a doctor first before trying either medication. But I also think it’s a good idea to try finasteride first before trying dutasteride.  And only if you try finasteride for a year or more proves to br ineffective, should you consider trying dutasteride.

    I hope this helps.

    Rahal Hair Transplant

thank you brother, never been on meds before and never tried Finasteride just jump straight to dutasteride at the surgeons recommendation, thank you for your valued feedback 💙

    I take 0.5mg Avodart daily.

If you're only going to take it twice a week without taking another 5ar inhibitor like Fin, then wouldn't it make more sense to spread the tablet across the week. So e.g take it Monday and Thursday or Friday?

this was my thinking initially, I was going to take it Monday & Thursday but the podcast made me change my mind. Might try Monday and Thursday next week, no sides so far

@Big Romethan i think 3 tabs per week would be better though some doctor's advice would be better...

yeah Pinto said 3 x a week, MWF to be fair. Then I saw the podcast with @Melvin- Moderator & DR Sergio Vanò where he said the patients get good results and no sides so I opted to start there with never touching medication before but your right, 3 x a week would probably be more beneficial
