  1. I've heard tons of stories like this about this particular doctor. Is he involved at any point in the procedure? You should also post this on Reddit. Thanks for sharing your story. I suggest you also consult with @DrTBarghouthi. His work is consistently excellent and he has the utmost ethical standards

If you're not motivated to stabalise your loss at 23 I can promise you that you will be at 43 when you have no donor supply donor left and only an island of transplanted hair (if it hasn't miniaturized) on your scalp. You will wish that you could shave (which you won't because of the scars from prior surgery) and you will wish that you never had surgery (which you will have because you made an emotional decision due to your age). I don't say this to be cruel. I say this because I went through it and it's the last thing I would wish on anyone and the it's the first thing that I want to try and prevent another from going through. What we do get a lot of is young people wishing that they never had surgery and regret having it done at a young age. You are in a perfect position to avoid this and tackle your hair loss with knowledge if you are able to try finasteride (and to a lesser extent minoxidil) for a good 12 months to see if it can stabalize your hair loss (and possibly grown your crown back). Any ethical surgeon will be recommending this to you. Any hair mill in Turkey will be wanting your money and will play on your age and emotions to butcher you.

    +1 Listen to this man.

I am looking to repair a procedure I've had done by Dr. Diep. He seems to have some persistent practices in his transplants, so if possible I would like to go with a surgeon who has a lot of experience dealing with his work.

From searching the forum, so far I found only found this post

This person rates Dr Mwamba the highest, but this person has only just completed and it'll be a while for the final results to come out.

You should reach out to Dr. William Rassman and/or Dr. Parsa Mohebi. I think Dr. Mohebi and Dr. Diep trained together and Dr. Rassman trained both of them

BTw I have had 5 or 6 FUT procedures but it's been 20 yrs since the last, everybody is pushing these fue procedures now, not the best procedure if your goal is additional density

Dr. Mohebi does excellent FUT work. Do you have the laxity for another FUT procedure? 5-6 FUT procedures is a lot of FUT. If not, you may want to consider FUE.

I’ve recently been looking at hair transplant prices and they seem exorbitant in the US (and even worldly across top HT clinics). Assuming a doctor works 3 weeks less than all weekdays (261), they’re working 240 days. Let’s assume they, on average, do around 10k FUE grafts a day across several patients and charge $8 a graft.

This means they make close to $20 million a year. Isn’t that unreasonably high? And it doesn’t have to be this way -- countries with top tier doctors, say India or Turkey, still only charge $1-$2 a graft (bicer, Yaman, soni), leading them to make around $4 million, which is still a hefty wage.

Other plastic surgery specialities in the US (i.e. top rhinoplasty doctors) make similar to $5 million before fees as well.

There’s obviously a lot of fees in HT especially Ie staffing, marketing, OR fees, but not enough to justify a $16 million dollar difference. I’d still imagine the HT surgeon takes home 50% of the money. Even if my ballparks are off, they shouldn't be so off to distract from my point.

Do you think top doctors are taking it too far? This especially applies in countries like India where cost of living is significantly cheaper, yet some doctors are charging US prices.

Your numbers are WAY off (by a factor of 10). Overhead costs are also a LOT higher in Western countries.

  6. As others have mentioned, you should see your doctor and inquire about starting meds ASAP. My regimen is oral dutasteride 0.5mg every other day and oral minoxidil 2.5mg daily. You have retrograde alopecia as well and your NW level is also high. You might be able to regrow back some hairs and improve your NW level and thus require less grafts via surgery. I suggest taking meds consistently for at least 1 year to gauge your progress. In the interim, save up money for a great surgeon. Do you have good beard and chest hair? Where in the US are you located?
