Pros and cons to both. Some surgeons will tell you that splitting it up into two sessions can limit impact to existing hairs from trauma as well as provide max blood supply to the new grafts. Others will tell you that's it's better to get it done in one session. I think it really depends on the current density of the recipient area ect ect, I personally regret not going for the maximum in one session, and then a minor procedure down the road to touch it up.

Joe I hear you, I really do, and you make a great point. I definitely think it's near to impossible to know who the single best surgeon is, but we should be able to identify the best handful, and maybe even try identify the best handful for situations, I..e the best surgeon for FUT megassessions, the best for FUE, the best hairline ect ect. I still think that the top surgeons out there can accommodate the different situations, and I really get the impression that some docs are producing stellar results, whilst some average or good (but not stellar). Surely we must be able to truly separate the consistently stellar from the good. That's what Kingarfa is asking for, and whilst no disrespect to the surgeons recommended by this site, I think there is a gap between the top tier and then the next best. I went with tier 2 (recommended by this site) and although I'm satisfied with the job he did, I regret not going with one of the top guys, and will be going with Rahal for my 2nd procedure which may not have even been necessary if I went with him in the 1st plac.

I only researched North American surgeons. Based on researching pictures pictures pictures as well as reading the blogs and doing some consults, my tier 1 top surgeons are Rahal, Hasson, Ron Shapiro, Konior, Wong and Gabel. Just my own opinion, but I'm not nearly as knowledgable as some of the big hitters on this site, so would love to hear their own opinions.

Joe, there is always a "best". Just very difficult to really know who is the best unless you have multiple surgeons perform HT procedures on identical clones and compare the results. I have no doubt that there is a big difference between the top surgeons and then the next best (tier two). I get that it is subjective, but I think its a great question, and with the vast knowledge of multiple members on this forum, am very interested in having those folks provide their own views of who they rate as the best. I this it would be very helpful as a datapoint (one of many) for folks trying to identify who the best surgeons are. I went for one of the tier 2, and really regret not going with one of the top surgeons I mentioned above.

I vote Dr Rahal, Dr Hasson, and Dr Ron Shapiro. I would say Dr Konior is probably the best for a diffused thinner.

Kujii, your hair looks great. Did you get a 2nd HT? If so, did you go back to T&D?

If I put the question another way, if planning to use a different surgeon from the 1st, that surgeon has a 4 - 5 month backlog to book a procedure after the consultation, and I wanted to book the 2nd procure at exactly 12 months post the 1st op, is 7 months post op to soon to have a consultation with the new surgeon, and would he be able to make a reasonable assessment at that time?

Thank you guys, all very helpful advice. I incorrectly limited myself to a surgeon in my city against all the advice in this forum. As my surgeon is on the conservative side, the plan was was for an initial surgery of approx 2,500 grafts via FUT, and then a second surgery for density. Now that I have been through it once, and although very happy with the job my surgeon did, I will rather travel to either Rahal, H&W or Shapiro for the 2nd surgery - as they appear to be the best of the best. The problem is I know Rahal & Shapiro have 3-5 month waiting lists, so I ideally I wanted to consult early and try book a procedure for the 11/12 month mark, however I guess I'll wait until that minimum period mentioned of 9 months to do the consult, and then get on the waiting list for an appointment. Do you guys think it would be stupid to do the consultation slightly earlier at say 7/8 months, get on the waiting list and book the procedure for the 12 month mark? I think I know the answer to that question though, but thought I would ask it anyway.

If you are looking for that many grafts, your best bet is actually Hasson & Wong.

All, What is the average time one must leave between two strip FUT procedures?I had an FUT procedure for 2,500 grafts, and wish to have another to add density and touch up the hairline.

Hi everyone. I spent 6 months researching hair transplants, and ended up ignoring everyone's advice to not let long distance limit options. For me I felt strongly that it was important for me to live/work close to my hair surgeon. Therefore I ended up narrowing my choices to True & Dorin, Dr Feller, Dr Bernstein, and Dr Wesley in NY/NJ. Ended up get strip for approx 2,500 grafts in July of last year. In hindsight I now realize how unnecessary it was to limit my options the way I did. The results have been outstanding (I will post my story soon with the pics in thes thread, just want to give my surgeon a Curtisy heads up before naming him) so far, and I am gearing up to start consultations with Dr Rahal in July this year to have an additional surgery to add density and just touch up the hairline ever so slghtly. Looking at another 2,000 grafts. Don't get me wrong, my NY selected surgeon far exceeded my expectations, but if I could go back in time and do it again, I would definitely have gone with either H&W or Dr Rahal. I did online consultations with Dr Hasson (3,500 - 4,000 grafts recommended) and Dr Ron Shapiro (2,500 grafts). No idea why I never consulted with Dr Rahal or Konier at the time, but think it was becaus by that stage I knew I was going to go with a NY surgeon where I live. To everyone out there deciding on a surgeon, please please please don't let travel and distance be a factor. There is really no reason to be close to your surgeon at all. I went back a couple of times for cleaning in the the first couple of days post surgery, and then a week later to get the sutures removed.
