  1. A female patient who underwent a FUT surgery with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) can be seen before and soon after her session. The 1600 FU session generated early growth at only 7 months. While newly-transplanted hairs continue to appear for the first time up to 18 months after the date of surgery, early growth can sometimes be appreciated at this stage.

In our practice, there has been an encouraging trend of earlier growth with the inclusion of chilled PRP as graft storage media.

  2. Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) recently authored the chapter "Androgenetic alopecia" in one of the leading physician reference textbooks in the field of dermatology: Treatment of Skin Disease, 4th Edition (Elsevier). His chapter not only provides an overview of the most common form of hair loss plaguing men and women, but also cites the best and most influential peer-reviewed articles that inform others about diagnosis and treatment of androgenetic alopecia.

This textbook is unique in its format: equipping physicians with not only standard treatment strategies, but also second-and-thrid-line therapies for instances when other alternatives fail. Dr. Wesley covers the efficacy of current medical treatments as well as the various scenarios in which surgical hair restoration may be the most appropriate form of treatment.

  3. Dr. Wesley presented the background behind the concept of PiloFocus as well as his clinical findings thus far at the 21st Annual International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) Conference in San Francisco, CA.

An in-depth video has been made available to inquiring patients highlighting this presentation. The clip is password protected. The password is "piloscopy".

The detailed summary is approximately 25 minutes in length. So, it's best to settle in comfortably with a cup of coffee. Enjoy!

Dr. Carlos K. Wesley was selected to provide a comprehensive overview of the field of surgical hair restoration to fellow physicians worldwide. By serving as the primary author of "Hair Transplantation" for WebMD (owners of both Medscape and eMedicine), Dr. Wesley is responsible for highlighting the most recent advances in an objective manner. This online resource for physicians and other health professionals features peer-reviewed original medical articles and presents a translation of the body of current research into clinical practice guidelines from the perspective of each subspecialty.

The WebMD/Medscape Reference is the most authoritative and accessible point of care medical reference available to physicians and other health care professionals on the Internet. WebMD/Medscape Reference has a worldwide audience, including all of the 192 UN-recognized countries as well as other states and territories. The site is part of the WebMD Professional Network, which receives an average of 1.5 million physician visits per month.

The evidence-based content, updated regularly by some 7,000 attributed physician or health care provider authors and editors, provides the latest practice guidelines in 38 clinical areas. A 2009 study showed 89.1% of physician specialists respondents accessed peer-reviewed material online, including WebMD and 12% used WebMD as their first source when conducting research online.

Dr. Wesley composed the updated review article entitled, "Hair Transplantation Overview" that is featured in the dermatology section of the physician reference site. All content in WebMD is available free of charge for professionals and consumers alike. The article may be viewed here.

  5. This patient returned to our office approximately two years after having his initial repair work performed by Dr. Wesley (NYC). This patient's initial surgery was performed in a different surgical center (seen as "before" pictures).

He subsequently underwent a session to also add density and coverage to the mid scalp region as well. Those images will also follow.

  6. This 34-year-old doctor wanted to add density to his thinning mid scalp. While he was bothered by the thinning on top of his head, the crown region (in back) didn't bother his as much.

A 2579 FU session of FUT with Dr. Wesley focused on his mid scalp. By creating a feathered "arc" along the back border of the pattern of transplantation and leaving a portion of his crown untreated, young patients continue to have a natural appearance even when the thinning portion of their crown expands over time.

The patient returned 12 months later for follow-up images and video of his new hairstyle.

  7. The list of speakers at the upcoming International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery Conference in San Francisco has been announced. The meeting takes place next week and should reveal quite a bit of new and interesting information regarding the various treatments (both medical and surgical) for hair loss. The attached program has been divided into three separate parts due to the size of the file.

  8. This 40-year-old received 2460 grafts to address his receding hairline. His session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) included a number of DFUs (double-follicular units) tucked away behind his new hairline to provide more coverage and an improved facial framing.

He returned with a renewed self confidence about 9 and a half months later to display his new hairstyle!

  9. Patients frequently ask about the short-term as well as long-term look of the back of their head after undergoing FUE. So, here are examples of various patients from our practice who have undergone follicular unit extraction (FUE). This montage of pictures and video clips of patients from their 20s to 50s illustrates the process of hair regrowth in the donor area from which the transplanted hair follicles are taken.

Please note, this approach to surgical hair restoration differs from the scarless surgical approach developed by Dr. Wesley. And, yes. He will provide an update on the progress of instrumentation within the next few weeks.

  10. Dr. Carlos K. Wesley, served as the primary author on Hair Transplantation in the 7th Edition of the http://www.amazon.com/Smiths-Plastic-Surgery-PLASTIC-SURGERY/dp/1451109555/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top textbook. The release date has been announced: September 9, 2013.

This textbook enjoys a rich history in Plastic Surgery and is the only remaining single-volume text that attempts to cover the entire field in a comprehensive manner. Despite the availability of competing content on the internet, this text has long been considered the premier reference for plastic surgery residents and practitioners.

Dr. Wesley approached it with the following in mind: What does a plastic surgery resident or young plastic surgeon need to know about hair restoration in order to: 1.take a written exam; 2. appreciate the commitment that good hair restoration requires; 3. be able to refer patients appropriately and; 4. be generally well-educated?

The comprehensive hair transplantation chapter covers all aspects of the procedure: preoperative planning, anesthesia, donor harvest and closure, recipient site planning and execution, eyebrow transplantation, donor scar revisions, camouflaging scars from facelifts and brow lifts, correction of "pluggy" transplants, and the future of innovations in surgical hair restoration.

  11. I am writing to let you know that Dr. Wesley will be conducting in-person consultations in Los Angeles this month. On Monday, June 17th, he will be seeing patients at an office located near Downtown Los Angeles.

Please note, the physician, not a consultant or a salesperson, will be meeting with you and answering your specific questions directly. In addition to discussing the nature of the procedure (as well as advancements on the horizon), Dr. Wesley will determine whether or not you are a candidate and the size of the session he anticipates you can have.

As spaces are limited, please contact Loretta, the appointment secretary, at 212-249-9393 or email drwesley.office@gmail.com to arrange for a 45-minute consultation.
