  1. Dr. Wesley has been invited as a featured speaker at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Conference. This 31st Annual Scientific Meeting entitled "Technological Advancements in Cosmetic Surgery" will showcase some of the world's top surgeons with sub-specialties ranging from Rhinoplasty to Liposuction. The presentation will take place on January 14th, 2015 in New Orleans, LA and a preliminary schedule of presentations can viewed [https://c.ymcdn.com/sites/cosmeticsurgery.site-ym.com/resource/resmgr/Annual_Meeting_2015/AACS_Program.pdf].

Dr. Wesley has been invited to present on the Technology panel, "Advancements in Hair Restoration." Specifically, the presentation is to focus on the novel sub dermal approach to intact hair follicle harvesting (piloscopy []Recent Advancements in field of Hair Restoration Surgery) that has demonstrated a 45% improved survival rate over traditional follicular unit extraction (FUE) []Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) in NYC - By Dr. Carlos K. Wesley, MD. These findings are statistically significant. As the Founder and CEO of Pilofocus [http://www.pilofocus.com/company-profile.html], a surgical device company dedicated to the development of this hair follicle harvesting technology, Dr. Wesley has presented the original findings from piloscopy []Pilofocus | Scarless Hair Transplantation Surgery - By Dr. Carlos K. Wesley, MD at the International Society of Hair Restoration [http://www.ishrs.org] (ISHRS) Conference in 2013. This presentation, however, will include updated information regarding not only findings in the donor and recipient areas, but also the experiences of patients who have undergone this surgical procedure.

  2. This 28-year-old female came to our office fed up with her progressive and distressing hair loss. She was referred to our office by an endocrinologist. After examination with a magnified folliscope, Dr. Wesley determined that she may be a good candidate for treatment with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and ACell. She returned just over five (5) months after her treatment for follow-up evaluation. Her results can be viewed below:

  3. A 46-year-old man came to Dr. Carlos K. Wesley's surgical center in order to return the frontal hair fullness that he once had. A 2343-graft session to the frontal half of his scalp can be viewed before and 12 months later. One important aspect of achieving his results was the use of DFUs (double follicular units) as well as the combined use of PRP and ACell as storage solutions while the grafts were incubating out of the body.

  4. This 40-year-old man really wanted to reverse his "hair fortune" and add density atop his head. His concern was a natural appearance - even if it meant going "zero to sixty" (as a patient coined when very little recipient hair initially exists). A 2605-graft session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in NYC helped frame his face with a natural-appearing hairline as seen before and 17 months after his procedure.

  5. This 44-year-old gentleman desired more fullness in the frontal half of his scalp to "frame his face" more effectively. His primary emphasis was that his appearance be natural. With an average donor density and a relatively tight scalp, approximately 1700 grafts were generated using follicular unit transplantation (FUT). Despite this relatively modest number of grafts, the patient is demonstrating early growth at 8 months that are achieving his goals.

  6. This 33-year-old male was bothered by the progressive thinning of his recessions as well as throughout the entire caudal portion of his scalp. He came to Dr. Carlos Wesley (NYC) for a 3119-graft follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure. The patient returned at only five (5) months postoperatively to display his early growth.

The combined use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and ACell as a follicular graft storage solution may help contribute to the early growth that numerous patients experience.

  7. Patients are often pleasantly surprised to learn during their initial consultation that our practice does not require patients to shave their head for a follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedure. As Dr. Wesley operates on only one patient per day, it is much easier to take the time to carefully navigate around the pre-existing hairs during recipient site creation.

The benefit to patients occurs not only in the immediate short term (7-10 days) postoperatively when the redness can be better camouflaged by the longer native hairs, but also during the first few months of early growth when the transplanted hairs are just beginning to grow and provide coverage and density.

Here is a recent example of a patient who underwent a session of over 2700 grafts to the caudal region of his scalp. You can see that by being able to comb his longer, pre-existing hairs over the incoming base of new hair, he is able to effectively camouflage the new growth and continue to lead a normal lifestyle.

  8. This past weekend's "Advances in Facial Reconstruction and Cosmetic Surgery Symposium" provided audience members in New York's Mount Sinai (Icahn) School of Medicine an opportunity to learn about insights regarding the future of hair restoration (both surgical and otherwise).

Dr. Wesley lectured to colleagues ranging from resident physicians to attending physicians in fields such as dermatology, ENT surgery, and plastic surgery about topics including hair follicle cell therapy, laser hair treatments, and scarless surgical hair follicle harvesting.

Building on this lecture, Dr. Wesley has been invited to author a chapter on "Future Trends in Hair Restoration" in the upcoming "Hair Transplantation" textbook (Cambridge University Press).

  10. A 25-year-old male wanted to slightly advance and add fullness to his hairline and frontal scalp without compromising the pre-existing hair in that area. A 2036 FU session with Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. (NYC) can be seen before, during, and 12-months later. The accompanying video also illustrates the overhead view of the young man's scalp one year after his platelet-rich plasma (PRP) - enriched follicular unit transplantation (FUT) session with Dr. Wesley.

  11. Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. will be holding in-person consultations in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday, April 22nd. He will be seeing patients only on this day. Patients interested in meeting with him in person may contact Loretta, the appointment secretary, at (844) 745-6362 or email info@drcarloswesley.com to arrange for a consultation with Dr. Wesley.

Please note, the physician, not a "consultant" or a salesperson, will be meeting with you and answering your specific questions directly. As someone who takes pride in his work, Dr. Wesley looks forward to speaking with you and sharing information that was included in his recently-authored chapters on Hair Restoration published in the leading dermatology and plastic surgery textbooks, as well as the most respected physician reference site. In addition to discussing the nature of the procedure, he will determine whether or not you are a candidate and the surgical fee for the size of the session for which you are eligible.

If you would like to view additional patient results, you are welcome to view them here.

  12. A 46-year-old male was bothered by the progressive thinning throughout his hairline and the more and more apparent receding of his hairline. He came to the office of Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) for a 2056-graft procedure that filled in the frontal half of his scalp. The patient then returned 13 months later for follow-up images as seen below...

  13. This patient's donor scar was 1mm in width - as seen 10 months after his follicular unit transplantation [FUT] procedure with Dr. Wesley (NYC). The first images shows an untouched region of his donor scalp as compared with a the donor scar. The second magnified image displays the donor scar with a 5mm calibration. The claim of 1mm donor scars is common amongst many surgical practices, but actual measurements are uncommon. A very fine donor scar is especially important in this young man's case as the color contrast between hair and scalp is significant.

  14. While not as popular as the follicular unit extraction FUE megasessions for young men, the "lunchtime" procedure of long-haired FUE sessions has gained favor amongst the middle-aged male population. Rather than having to shave their entire donor area, a more focused FUE session enables patients to wear long hair in their donor area to cover portion of the donor area that was trimmed for the FUE harvest.

This 68-year-old gentleman came to Dr. Carlos K. Wesley (NYC) because he wanted to focus on "touching up" a part line that had thinned over the years and returned later for follow-up images.
