  1. My top tip for future patients wondering about this - simply time how long it takes to put in each follicle at the start of the procedure (think it was about 6 seconds in my case) then multiply by length of time in the chair (e.g. 12 - 5pm). I did this, (you don't need to be awake the whole time if you are a bit woozy) and it worked out to exactly the total Dr Pathomvanich told me - 3,900. Hence am a very happy patient.
  2. Medically speaking I don't know if this is possible In practice I don't see the point. Obviously lots of people are nervous about surgery, but by definition you won't be able to see anything unpleasant going on at the back of your head, its not like being in an episode of ER... There could be some 'stretching' type pain for.a few moments, maybe 3 or 4 on a scale of 1 to 10, but please try and keep this in perspective.... Dentistry is probably worse for most people. If you are at all technically / medically minded then I would suggest you will find the whole experience fascinating if you stay awake!
  3. Maybe DeeDee (great name) was responding to some photos you sent for assessment? If not, then I understand on average most guys with a healthy donor area have 7-10,000 grafts total available. Whether these are taken by FUT or FUE I don't think it makes any difference to the total available or how many sessions are required, though more can be taken at a time with FUT. If it is a clinic rated here then maybe worth perservering and see if you can get a proper appraisal / graft estimate, but you'll have to send them photos.
  4. Sorry I'm new round here - is this nearly a record number of grafts in one session? Your description does sound a bit of an ordeal, and it looks like there was quite a bit of swelling. I had the headband on for 3 whole days (3,900 FUT) and never noticed any swelling, certainly wasn't sick either - just wondering if this 6,200 grafts is a bit too much, too long, for human endurance to take in one session? But you're going to have a big transformation, can't wait to see it
  5. Why not leave your face in? This is a HT website, so unless you have 2 noses, or one ear upside down I don't think you're going to shock anyone... Yes sounds exactly the same as my experience so far. I reckon another 6 weeks and you'll start to get some comments....
  6. Sorry but no WR doesn't recommend it. I think he had a lot of questions from patients about it and ended up putting a helmet in his waiting room that he doesn't charge for. It must be a couple of years now and none of his patients have reported any benefit. WR has always been open about this and his opinion is there is no evidence of efficacy.
  7. I agree with most of this, Dutaseride is more powerful and not FDA approved for hair loss. However there are lots of different outcomes of scar. If you want to check my profile / posts, you will see I had FUT with trichphytic closure and NO visible scar. Ask to meet some patients of whoever you are considering and specifically ask about the scar. I do wonder if many Americans in particular want to take a 'holistic' approach as a reaction against the incredible number of drug adverts on American tv, which I can understand. But finasteride, like aspirin, is not some dodgy new wonder drug, it has been proved safe after decades of widespread use.
  8. Sounds good to me, you might at this at this stage want to take some detailed bathroom shots (using the same lighting, camera, angle) so that you can compare with the 8 month point. I didn't notice an 'explosion' at 8 months but there were definitely more comments from people at this stage, so 8 is the magic number, hang in there....
  9. My own experience, following the ideas from Lazerfish, with a relatively high powered home made device, was no effect at all after 6 months. However, as I mention in my profile, there is some medical theory that LLLT can work and a homemade device will only cost about ?100 / $150 if you are a little technically minded. What I would not do is spend much more than that on the commercially available devices which are normally of very low power, particularly the lasercomb - which is NOT FDA approved as having any beneficial effect on hair loss.
  10. To understand this - you are anti medication but you are ok with 8 hours of invasive surgery... (presumably without anaesthetic then because it is a drug as well)... I'm not being funny, but unless you have strong religous beliefs I don't understand what being 'anti medication' means. For example, if, later in life, you have heart issues, you will refuse to take half an aspirin or a statin tablet once a day? Finasteride is a very mild, cheap drug, a tiny proportion of people have side effects which are always reversible. There is no doubt that you risk shock loss of some of your existing hair if you do not start a finasteride regime before surgery. And maybe with finasteride you won't even need a HT.
  11. It's a little bit confusing reading your profile, sorry. I think you are saying that the most recent doctor was in La Jolla California and you paid for either 2700 or 2800 grafts. Your first op was 3700 grafts with Hairclub, which you say worked, but was a "terrible job". Your second op was 3000 "hairs" (not grafts) with someone else. That sounds like a lot of grafts total, so not sure that there is much point in keeping the surgeon happy so that he will have another go in future, can't be that much donor hair left? I do agree with the posts here, a reputable doctor should be upfront with you about this, it must be hard waiting for something to happen and not knowing. Some photos would really help us help you...
  12. Thanks for the compliment. I don't regret not having an HT for example 10 years ago, because I don't think I would have got the same quality / cost of work, maybe micrografts instead of FUT. But technology and knowledge has moved on, and I would think there is now a better case for younger patients to have the procedure. Shaving - I dont know how close I can shave it, because that's not the hair style I want, pre op even in summer I've only occasionally had a number 2 if the weather is very hot. It is possible that I could have a number 1 and the scar not be visible but I can't swear to it. If I was in your position, I would go for it (with the RIGHT surgeon), but it has to be your decision.
  13. Thanks, I've added a few more photos on my profile at 8 and 12 months. I would say yes it did seem to thicken up over this period, though the recent photos are a bit darker.

  21. Well I'm 36 and just started posting, that is still young ... Seems to me you've already done a lot of research and had a consult with a good surgeon (not a salesman). Only 2 things I would comment on: 1) I had FUT with trichophatic closure and have no strip scar. Maybe specifically ask the doctors you are considering about trichophatic closure, and ask to see some results. Even better if you can meet a patient. 2) Acell. Is a bit controversial as to whether it will work for HTs, but it will certainly be expensive.
  22. Thanks for putting the links up, and thanks for nice comments - To explain a little, transplant was to the sides as well as the top, but not to the crown area. If I have another transplant I'm be tempted to lower the hairline 1 cm at the front, fill in the crown, but also have more thickness throughout the existing transplant area, which is as expected a bit see through as most other results I see. Another 2500 grafts maybe? But I don't think I will do that for quite a while, don't fancy having it all shaved off at the moment (which I know isn't mandatory but most recommended surgeons seem to prefer it).
  23. My first post - I wanted to post some results from Dr P, I've started up a site where you can look at my (slightly dull?) story. Feel free to fire back any questions!
