This is after the beginning of my new regimen started in January with addition of Minox to Propecia. Two months ago, I switched to Spectral DNC (and finax round the same time but it's irrelevant to the growth you can notice on the hairline. Mostly by the temple, for now hopefully).

  4. I switched to a generic Propecia last month (finax) and I'm not impressed with what seems like overall thinning and slight shedding I didn't get before- for the major part of my hair that doesn't get minox-. To be fair, I've also been through some stress and lousy sleep over the last couple of weeks so it might have played a part. Now, propecia is said to be cheap dirt to make hence the cost of generics and there's no doubt in my mind we're being shamelessly milked so with the magin they have I'm sure it's possible to find genuine prop for cheaper in other countries depending on their local pricing policies and bulk purchase from retailers. I'd be you I'd contact this pharmacy and ask they confirm what they carry is actually made and packaged by Merck. Also google for costumer complaints. I'm switching to avodart since propecia never did much spectacular for me anyway and found significant bargains for the brand product. Good luck.
  5. Thank you for keeping track and your posts on the board, Blake. Wish I were more active at the moment but I've been overwhelmed with my various professional projects (working on turning self-employed). I'll do my best to post an update this weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but my hair slowly but steadily keeps on regrowing on the hairline, and more uniformly while it was patches at fist. I tried taking pics but my cheap model of cam isn't fond of close-ups. Going to try to borrow one from a friend.

  6. Sorry i can't answer your question but I'd strongly recommend you quit overdosing dutasteride (or any drug for that matter). With Propecia, the daily dose is exactly what you should need, with dut, the half-life of the active component is about 5 days I think. So at the end of the second day, you've stacked up 14x time the necessary dose, which will both be useless for hair growth, might be toxic and is very likely to contribute to your body building up a resistance against the drug. From what I get, Dut hasn't been approved because they're not sure about the right dosage and the long term effect since it lingers in the body a lot longer than propecia.
  7. Would be great if it led to a new treatment but I was mainly interested in the part where they gave some credit to massaging. So far, I've been rather skeptical of scalp exercises. I'm going to look it up and give it a try for a couple of months.
  8. Blood Vessels Hold Key To Thicker Hair Growth
  9. It wasn't the case for me. The hair I got transplanted massively disappeared within 3 years. The hairline receded mainly in the front. The new hair survived decently near the temples.
  10. I didn't see any regrowth either after 6+ months of propecia. It started after I added Minoxidil to the mix. Proscar/Pecia's effect is to keep DHT from choking your follicles but if they're too weak, they're going to need this extra kick. Where you're at, I'd advise against a HT because within 1-2 years, the new hair will have met the same Fate. Speaking from experience. So, first, try to stabilize your hairline. If things turn OK, and you get decent growth, you may even need a less substantial HT.
  11. Thank you for the comment Future_HT_Doc. Yes, I'll try and snap a couple of pics within the next few days for the record.

  12. I started with propecia but got weary of doling out a fortune on it so I've just bought Finax (Generic Propecia) off ** promotional link removed ** . Pricing was less than $30 for 6 tablets of 10 pills + $7.5 flat shipping rate, as opposed to $120 for the same quantity of Propecia I can vouch for United Pharmacies as far service goes but as usual, do some googling to see if anyone has had problems with them. ps: Still have 2 tablets of Propecia left so I haven't tried Finax yet.

My various treatments so far for the record: Aug 09 - Dec 09 : Propecia Result: Hairline still receding and hair still thinning. Side effect: none Jan 10-end of May 10 : Propecia + Minox (am-pm) Result: Receding seemed to have stopped. Some regrowth (light hair). Mainly located between the temples and half an inch off the middle of the forehead. Side effect: puny shedding the first days. A few very thin hairs when applying the lotion. Skin flaking were applied. End of May 10 - ongoing : Propecia + Spectral DNC (am-pm) Result: The growth of thin hair looks denser and I noticed two dark hairs yesterday (june 02). Including one about a quarter of an inch ahead of the hairline. I'm just about a week into this combo so I don't want to get too excited though it seems positive so far. I hope not to have unpleasant surprises like delayed shedding in a few days or weeks. Side effect: the current Spectral DNC formula is orange... It's fine for me because I work from home but I don't think anyone with a regular job would want to apply it in the morning -in the front at any rate. It stinged a bit the first day but no irritation after that. On a positive note, the skin is a lot less flakey than with pure Minox.
  14. What Bill said. And there's also the fact that Dutasteride's half life is something like 5 days while Finasteride's is about 12 hours on average. Which would mean taking Dutasteride on a daily basis would create some kind of build-up effect. I have no idea what it could entail in the long run. I was coincidentally considering replacing Fin. with Dut. once or twice a week but then I decided to try out lotions more potent than minoxidyl first.
  15. Thanks for the welcome. And congrats on the HT. Looks really neat.

  16. I'm with aw33. There are quite a bit of factors that could worsen hairloss, and I would bet, to the point of overpowering the treatment. Stress is reputed for it, so you fretting is going to feed the cause of your trouble. There's a bit of a catch 22 here, but do try to relax. Then, from experience and as educated guesses, if any concern you, I'd recommend to stay clear of alcohol, smoking, processed food, animal fat, added salt and sugar. Make sure you eat enough protein and look up foods/vitamins that play some part in hair growth, and drink enough water. Keep your chin up and good luck. And remember hair cycles are a matter of months, so the changes you make to live healthier may not yield results before some time. But if you look for room for improvement in your lifestyle and stay on propecia/minoxidil I'm optimistic on your chances to improve the situation. ps: You might also want to try out a minox-based treatment with extra buff like spectral DNC. I haven't tested it out myself but there's a scientific paper that concluded minox is more efficient when combined with retinol and this product contains some. It's $30 though so quite pricier than generic minox.
  17. I took it for over 6 months with no visible effect, including my hair still getting thinner in the front. I didn't take it too well and asked for minoxidil back-up -without having much hope- when i got my prescription renewed. I'm now 4 months into to the propecia/minoxidil combo and not only did my hair stop shedding and got thicker but some new hair did begin to sprout. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but feel a lot more optimistic than I was a few months ago.
