  1. Smoking does not cause hairloss. It may be a contributing factor by decreasing blood supply to the hair follicles. This for the most part only pertains to people who are older, obese, or have some cardiovascular disorder. If you are a smoker, i would not worry about it, unless you fall into one of those three categories mentioned above. I smoke, and my hair is looking better and better by the day.
  2. you cannot say taking 1.25 mg every 6 days is equal to .02 mg a day. As i'm sure you know, the body filters itself, and after 24 hours at the most, the drug is completely removed from the bloodstream. therefore, any progress the drug made that day, will no doubt regress in the next 5 days without the drug.
  3. thats awesome. the last few days my scalp has been quite itchy. i hope its a sign of early growth.
  4. it's strange you have not heard back from the clinics you emailed. Most clinics have staff just for answering phone calls and emails and scheduling consultations. I would try contacting them by phone. You will most likely have a waiting period for your surgery. Could be a few weeks or a few months.
  5. I'm just about 1 month post-op. I'd say anywhere from 50-70% of my grafts shed. The ones that remain are still small, not even an inch long. This seems to be quite standard, but my remaining native hair looks great. It has thickened exponentially in just the little over two months i have been on finasteride. I was a NW 2, borderline NW3. I had diffuse thinning in the frontal 1/3, in addition to a receding hairline and temples. My diffuse thinning has essentially reversed. i can no longer see scalp in places i used to when i combed my hair back. Also, these are places i did not receive any grafts in. Not only does it look much thicker, but my native hair feels so much thicker. Also, in the first few weeks on finasteride i noticed some sexual side affects. It has all passed, no more side affects. Just happy the drug is working, especially since i'm seeing great results in only 2+ months. I can only expect it will get even better as the months progress.
  6. i'm about 4 weeks post op with Dr. Tessler. Everything has gone excellent. No pain whatsoever during the surgery, very minimal pain the few days after surgery. I also recieved 1200 grafts in the frontal 1/3. Very happy with the hairline, and it looks to me my end result will be fantastic. Donor scar is very thin, essentially undetectable. You won't be disappointed with their office.
  7. im kinda starting to think my remaining grafts will be staying. I'm almost at 4 weeks, and about 2 weeks ago i went through my shedding phase where i lost about 50% of the grafts. I figured most, if not all, would eventually shed. As of now my remaining grafts seem pretty firmly entrenched. i dont want to get my hopes up to much and be disappointed if they fall out, but after 4 weeks, there is a very strong chance they will hang around.
  8. seems like feller used to few of grafts considering the size of the area being filled in. i had a 1/3 of the size of your recipient area and packed in 1300 grafts. you probably should have been around 2500 grafts. but hey im no doctor. i would go see feller though, he probably would touch things up for you.
  9. its752- every doctor on this website is great, if they weren't they wouldn't be a member. this top5 stuff is getting ridiculous.
  10. im a couple days past 3 weeks post op and i still have roughly 50% of my grafts. im hoping they hang around, as they make a cosmetic difference. then in 3-4 months the reserves will come in. i really cant wait for 4-5 months from now, its gonna be amazing. it doesn't seem like a big deal, but there is simply no greater gift than getting your hair back. atleast thats how i feel.
  11. in reading the article, you will find that this company is not cloning hair follicles. This company only clones dermal papilla cells which do not produce hair they only help to promote hair growth. So this isn't exactly what most people want, but im sure it would still be helpful to some patients, assuming it doesn't cost 40 billion dollars.
  12. i would highly doubt dermatch causes hair to fall out. most likely they fell out on their own and just so happened to end up on your applicator.
  13. ya i just meant for nm76 in particular. he states that his hair loss is limited to his hairline and temples. thats being the case, 2500 grafts or roughly 5,000 hairs should make a significant improvement. however, he should no doubt discuss this in more detail with a surgeon.
  14. it should be noted that of those 100,000 hairs on a non-MPB, 60% (60,000)are on the sides and back of your head. That leaves roughly 40,000 hairs for the top. then when you break that down (1/3 for each region as in front, mid, and crown)that makes it roughly 13,200 hairs for each region. therefore a transplant of 5,000 hairs to the frontal region will without question make a significant cosmetic difference.
  15. if you can wear a hat to work do so. if you cant i would recommend you take about 2 weeks off if your concerned about anyone knowing. While you may think you are able to "hide" your recipient area with your native hair, it will be difficult to fully conceal the redness and scabs that are a byproduct of surgery. I'm like you, i just had surgery to improve my hairline. However, it was still difficult to conceal, even with my hair being about 4-5 inches long. This is especially true if your work forces you to interact with people at close range.
  16. ya actually like 2 days after i posted that question, i started noticing my grafts were shedding. its kinda weird though, one side has shed significantly more than the other. my left side has almost no grafts left while my right still has a decent amount. i did receive more grafts to the right side but still kinda strange.
  17. you need to get aggressive and get that stuff off. after 7 days those follicles arnt going anywhere so your not going to hurt anything at 25 days post op. its important to keep the recipient area clean.
  18. the good news is its on the horizon and will only get closer to being available with every year that passes. the one concern is how much it will cost. this is especially great news for younger guys, like myself, who don't have to worry so much about using up too much donor hair on the frontal 1/3.
  19. Dr. Carmen, at what point would you say someone is in the clear in regards to their grafts shedding? After 3 weeks? 4 weeks?
  20. He may have meant for the first few weeks after surgery their is some maintenance. After that, there is no more maintenance than what you do with the hair you have now.
  21. i think some people are alittle to cautious after a HT. Thats to be expected but for the majority of people, after seven days post op you can resume normal activity.
  22. everyones situation is different. It would be pretty hard for a guy who was a NW5+ to just show up after 3 months and have almost a full head of hair. People would obviously be suspicious so at that point it might just be better to be honest. As far as the pain, i never felt a thing during surgery. The stitches bothered me at night for a few days but i just got them out today so no more sleeping on one side anymore.
  23. guys you have nothing to worry about if you take your time and pick out a great surgeon. places that advertise like bosley, DHI, MHR, or whatever all SUCK!!! A good practice doesn't need to advertise, they let their patient results do the talking. If you made your deposit already try and get it back and schedule a consultation with any doctor recommended on this website. It's the best decision you can make. If you were having heart surgery you would want to make sure you have a great surgeon, hair restoration is no different. Keep in mind, most coalition doctors, will reimburse you for any out of state/country travel expenses. That being the case, you would be stupid not to.
