  1. I think $500.00 is not too much to ask for. It has been my experience in the industry that this is the average amount.
  2. I'm wondering what types of blades were used in the study. Were chiseled cut blades used? The reason for my question is because a chiseled cut blade mimics the hair follicle perfectly because the bulb on the end of the follicle is fatter, and with sharp pointed blades it is not a perfect fit, and so the study cannot be precise for that is not a true lateral slit. In your study were you using sharp pointed blades? Often time's clinics that are comparing the two use sharp pointed blades instead of chiseled cuts so the study is skewed. Also, what size blade are you using in this study. To see the true benefit of a lateral slits it must be a high-density case; you are only able to achieve this if the blade is less than 1 millimeter. In order to perform an accurate study you must use the same equipment as that of Hassan and Wong, among others to make a true assessment.
  3. Since Propecia is a film coated tablet it absorbs rapidly after swallowing, metabolized by the liver and dispersed through the bloodstream. There is no reason to chew the tablet, which may affect the stability of the product. As far as when you take the tablet, food has no effect on absorption as well. As long as you take it once a day it provides the appropriate efficacy.
  4. Unicorn Financial is great, because they offer 0% financing for 18 months. The doctor is the one that is charged the fee, not the patient.
  5. This seems like an advertisement. There are only two FDA approved non-surgical treatments for hair loss, which are Rogaine and Propecia, and Propecia isn't even listed. All of this herbal stuff mixed in with Sal Palmetto just doesn't work. The only reason people believe that Sal Palmetto works is because it helps with the prostate, just like Propecia, but does not have any effect on hair loss. It is just too bad that the makers of products like these can actually sell this stuff knowing that it is a bill of goods. I find it very disheartening.
  6. I suppose it would. I do wonder though how healthy it is to take all of these supplements that are not FDA approved, not as it relates to hair loss, just as it relates to your body in general.
  7. Propecia is an alpha-reducate type-2 blocker. It is like a road blocker for DHT, and so if you take testosterone you will just have more of a back up testosterone, it will not increase your DHT levels. Propecia will only allow a 33% production of DHT, no matter how much testosterone you have.
  8. I have seen it take up to a year for all of the redness to go away. In regards to having less hair, you may have lost some of the non-transplanted hair. If a patient doesn't go on Propecia and we transplant in an area where they are only thinning, once they lose the non-transplanted hair they may mistake the two and think they have lost what they gained from the surgery. If that is the case the only option you have is to go back and transplant what you have lost.
  9. Propecia is one of the cleanest and most benign products for incidence of side effects. The placebo group in the studies had the same incidence, as did the patients taking the drug. The people that reported any erectile dysfunction were .8%, and so odds are it is probably in your head. There really is no physiological reason you should have sexual side effects because testosterone goes up 10-15% while taking Propecia, and so in essence your libido should increase, not decrease, and you should not have sexual side effects.
  10. You might try using Rogaine twice a day on the scar. This will increase your vascular blood flow, which can help with the growth. The problem with the scar is the lack of blood flow, and so this could really help a lot.
  11. I don't think that Bernstein uses custom made blades. I know Feller does, and I've heard nothing but great things about him.
  12. The reason you are able to achieve such better density is due to the fact that you can layer the sites or fan them out, like tiles on a roof. With needles you are forced to create rows, with space in between the sites, which creates a very unnatural growth pattern and also decreases density. Using custom made blades also allows the sites to be much smaller, which can be a small as .6 millimeters in length. With lateral slits you can transplant up to 70-units per square centimeter, and with needles, and/or sagital sites this is just not possible.
  13. Propecia actually gives you a slight raise in your testosterone levels; I actually have patients' claim that they have an increased libido; of course this is after I tell them about the increase in testosterone. In my opinion it is purely psychological, since the placebo group in the studies experienced the same side effects. The nice thing about Propecia is that it has an extremely short half life, and so any side effect can be gone within a day.
  14. I have seen this done in patients that didn't grow hair in a specific are with much success. Without knowing the exact cause of the individual's case, I can just assume that it would be successful.
  15. Try using the atomizer with your Toppik along with aerosol hairspray to keep it in place. The atomizer helps distribute it much easier, and allows the Toppik to attach itself to the hairs rather than the scalp. It helps you avoid having a stained looking head.
  16. The problem with places like MHR is that they are very limited to what they can offer their patients. The reason for this is that the physician only gets a percentage from MHR, usually about 20%, and so their main objective is to do as many cases per day as possible in order to make as much money as possible. This results in very limited technology. I would recommend asking the physician how many cases are being performed each day, are they dissecting 100% under microscopes and are they using custom-made blades for the site creation i.e. later-slit method. In order to get a surgery that looks completely natural, it is essential to be using the latest technology, without it this just isn't feasible. This is the beauty of independents. While not all use the best technology, they really are the only ones' that are able to offer it. Since it limits a physician to one case per day, it just isn't appealing to the larger outfits.
  17. A good doctor should always take his or her time to go over everything with their patient, especially if they've never seen you before. If you go to an independent that performs just one case per day they can spend extra time with each aspect of the surgery. I would wait and see how it grows in, and in the meantime I would suggest getting on Propecia to at least stop you from losing any more hair and help to fill in the crown. You can always go back and do more work, and sometimes it is good to not go too far out on the hairline because considering your age you want to look age appropriate later in life. Next time try asking the doctor beforehand how much time is spent with each part of the surgery, and so that way there aren't any surprises. Best of luck to you.
  18. If you cut up a 5mg it can shatter, and so essentially you are going to lose and/or destroy the Finasteride. If you're not getting equal doses the efficacy will decrease. What happens is each pill is comprised of only 5mg of an active ingredient, and the rest is an inactive ingredient, and so a person may take 4 mg one day, ?? the next and so on and so forth. This can raise the occurrences of side effects and will also lower its' efficacy. Propecia gives a consistent 1mg per day dose, which from what I've seen in patients gives them a much better response. If you're trying to save money just buy it from a H/T surgeon. They tend to be much cheaper than pharmacies and also give samples with each purchase to bring the price down even further, and they will monitor your progress with photos.
