EastCoast, just out of curiosity, what type of business do you have? You don't have to give me the name. I'm just wondering what you do, what field you are in. You see, I'm in the process of trying to start a business myself. Hopefully, I'll be able to do most of what I need to do over the phone. I dread the idea of having to meet people because my hairloss crushes my confidence if I think about it. It's kind of tough to go through life when your outward appearance doesn't match your inner self.

Yes, I'm sure eventually it will be the cure for baldness. Eventually. But it's still a long way off. I don't think a cure for baldness is a major priority in the medical/scientific community as are other maladies such as alzheimers, cancer, etc. If someone out there is holding off on an HT for 5 or 10 years because they think HM is around the corner they are probably going to be disappointed. Fifty years ago people thought we'd be living like the Jetsons today. We are not.

Interesting. Isn't that Dr. Cooley the same one who did Social Drinker's HT? Nice to have a guy on the "inside". From what I've read, any kind of meaningful hair regeneration treatment is many years off, if it will ever happen. But, for some of you hairy guys out there an alternative may be the use of body hair. Chest, stomach, leg, and back hair have all been used with decent results. While still in its infancy, BHT has generated quite a bit of interest. I must add that as of now BHT is still unproven because not many patients have undergone BHT procedures. Unfortunately, the costs of body hair transplants (BHT) are sky high and not something most of will be able to afford for the forseeable future ($10/graft) as there aren't many doctors who want to do it yet. Hopefully, prices of BHT will come down and body hair can be used with scalp hair to add density allowing an NW6 or NW7 to regain a decent head of hair. We can all hope that hair multiplication or some other therapy is just around the corner, but odds are it isn't. However, BHT is a real option available to us--if we can just get the price to come down. Cheers!

I wonder if Foreigner even stops by this board anymore. I've read that after people are finished with their HTs, they stop coming because being bald isn't something they think about anymore. That is one hell of a transformation. Looking at his first before pictures, his hair didn't look that dense to me. But damn, it grows out good.

Perhaps Bruce Willis should try body hair transplants. Of course, I don't know how hairy he is. He's a millionaire who still dates chicks half his age. I don't think hair is too much of a concern for him.

You people have got good eyes. I look at all sorts of hairlines (and that's all!). There is a ton of variety. High, low, thin, thick. Some of the hair transplants do look too perfect. But the thing is, if it doesn't, then many of you complain that they don't look good enough. I look at hairlines all the time. What you people call bad, is pretty common on guys who haven't had hair transplants. Jotronic posted a picture of a 4k HT the other day and one of the comments was that it looked too thin. That one was obvious. Women walk around guessing whether or not other women have had implants. We look at hair. My advice: F*ck as much p*ssy as you can now, boy, because it's going to dry up real quick when your hair goes. That's a fact. Hey, I was in your boat--but at a younger age. By the way, you got a purty mouth. Save your money up going forward. Depending on how much you lose, it can cost you a fortune to get it back. Please state your family history of hairloss. Father, grandfathers, etc. You need to get an idea of how much hair you stand to lose. You could be just someone who has a real high hairline. Hard to tell from your pic if you are thinning overall. Lots of people around here in your boat. A lot have already had transplants. So there's a wealth of information to be found. Just don't look in my direction. A friend of mine has hair like yours. He looks just like you. Actually, I thought you were him for a second. His hairline receeded, but not too far back, and his hair thinned. So what he did was cut it real short. Not quite a buzz cut, but pretty damn close. Then he uses gel in his hair, too. He still gets lots of p*ssy. Sometimes, I get jealous. I'm going to Walmart next week to get a set of steak knives. I'm thinking about starting my own low-cost, back alley hair transplantation clinic. Would you like to schedule an appointment? Heeheehee. By the way, it's BYOA--bring your own anesthesia. A bottle of vodka and a mallet works wonders.

Stem cell research...a touchy issue, indeed. I know this is off-topic, but my two cents: I think the great fear is that test tube babies will be made to harvest tissue and then be put to death after their usefullness is done. Think about partial birth abortion--pulling a baby partially out of the womb only to stab it in the spine with scissors to kill it. Turns my stomach just to think about it. Now imagine fetuses being grown to harvest tissue from, much like a chicken farm. That's what those right-wingers want to avoid. They probably think that stem cell research is the first step toward that. But it doesn't have to be. Did you know that there is a lab in California that can synthetically create DNA from its four component molecules? I'm waiting for them to create life. If that isn't playing "god", I don't know what is. Even with stem-cell research, any meaningful outcome related to baldness may be decades away. I think in the grand scheme of things, a cure for hairloss ranks pretty low. Scientists/doctors can discover molecular receptors on cells but they can't stop hairloss. They can explain how some viruses can enter a cell and overtake its genetic machinery to reproduce itself, but no cure for baldness. Physicists can create anti-matter, trap it, store it, and study it, but they can't stop the action of DHT on certain hair follicles. ARGH! I wish I would have studied the sciences in college and gone straight on to graduate school. But I couldn't afford it. Of course, I don't know if I'd dedicate my life to hairloss. My secret dream is to one day become a mad scientist and hold the entire world hostage to my absurd demands. Whahahahahahaa! By the way, George isn't dumb. Not in the least. His public speaking isn't very good. Neither is mine. And I'm not dumb ;-) The few times I've had to give a presentation, I've flubbed my words and forgotten what I had prepared to say. Baldeagle1, just wondering: Do you have any pics of yourself before and/or after? What Norwood scale were you before your HT? How big was your strip? How many fu's per cm^2 did you yield? Are you planning a second HT? If so, how many grafts do you have available for harvest? I searched for your posts and found no info regarding your recent HT. I always like to know these things, especially with a mega session. So, if you could fill us in... Thanks.

Woody, I've noticed the same thing you mention but on many doctors' own websites. Some of the pictures look absolutely horrible and have an effect opposite of what is intended--those pictures drive me away. I've seen pictures of thousands of grafts that are very thin in coverage and make me think that the patient completely wasted their money. But I've noticed on many, if not most, of the bad pictures I've seen is that the pictures are taken after only 5 months or so. As anyone here who's had an HT can tell you, it takes 10 - 12 months for your grafts to grow in completely. A rule of thumb is that 10% of your grafts will grow each month (or so I've gathered). So, at 5 months 50% have grown in, etc. I think it is a huge mistake for any doctor to feature an after patient at only 5 months. The pictures look horrible--and I've seen many of them on doctors' websites. At only 5 months, the patient isn't going to represent what a prospective patient can expect to achieve after a longer period of growth. Next time you see a bad picture of someone who has had thousands of grafts, see if there is a caption that mentions how many months after the procedure the picture has been taken. Also, pay attention to the number of sessions the patient has had. A NW6 or NW7 with only one session isn't going to look as good as one who's had 2 sessions done.

I started losing my hair at 14. The guys in my family lose it quick. I started Minoxidil at 16. This guy is only 20. When I was 26 I had more hair than he does. It may be kind of late for the front, but you will want to start on Minoxidil and Propecia to save your crown. It will definitely slow down the rate of loss.

socialdrinker: I don't know about most people, but the hair on my chest and legs is the same diameter, roughly, as the hair on my head. It doesn't have the nice color, or grow as long, but I'm 30 and starting to turn white anyway. So, I'd just dye it. I think body hair, assuming there aren't too many problems with transection (or whatever they call it when the follicle is damaged), would be a great way for an NW6 or NW7 to add density to the crown. Save the good hair for the front and use head hair sparingly in the crown. The costs for FUE body hair average about $10 per graft. So, if you need 3k grafts, thats $30k. An expensive proposition. But, if you've got the money, and you want the hair, I suppose you'll do it. I read somewhere that some doctor had gotten the time that it takes to harvest a body hair graft down to about 15 seconds. Even if a doctor (or technician) could harvest 3 grafts per minute, it would still take over 16 hours to harvest 3000 grafts. I don't know why techs couldn't be trained to harvest body hair. It's not as important as scalp hair. That would be one tedious job, though. But even if the clinic paid the tech $1 per graft, the tech could make over $100 per hour. Pretty good pay. On another board, there is a guy, a NW6.5 or NW7, who went to Greece to get a scalp and body hair FUE. That guy was the posterboy for male pattern baldness. All together he got about 8000 grafts, 3000 body hair and the rest scalp hair. He's only 4 months out, so not much results yet. Should be interesting.

Socialdrinker, I've read that Woods in Australia charges $14 US per body hair graft. If you need 3,000, you can see how much that would cost. It is very expensive, but if you are progressing to a NW6 or NW7, I don't see how you can get full coverage without using body hair. <sigh> I guess I'll start saving.

Is it possible for a NW6 or NW7 to get good coverage without using body hair? If you are going to progress to that stage, you might as well look into it. Even if body hair doesn't grow as long as regular scalp hair, used with regular scalp hair, it would be good to add filler to the crown. I can't imagine using it for the hairline, though. Being a NW6/NW7, I'm always looking for info on using body hair. I am certain I have enough hair left to get a decent hairline back to my mid scalp, but there's no way I have enough to cover the entire crown. It's just too much ground to cover. But factoring in 3k - 5k body hair fu's, that would probably be enough to get full coverage with decent density. What more can you ask for? Of course, the costs of body hair transplants would have to come down or I'll have to save a lot more money. Thank god I have hairy legs!

DO NOT GET A HAIR TRANSPLANT WITH BOSLEY!!! A lot of HT doctors have made a fortune doing repair work for Bosley patients. Stay away from Bosley. There is a website, bosleymedicalviolations, that you should see. You are only 21. Work hard, save your money, then find the best doctor you can regardless of location. Picking something close to home for convenience could be the biggest mistake you'll ever make in your life. Being naturally bald looks a hell of a lot better than a bad transplant. Don't do anything foolish. I saw a guy once with an island of thick hair on the top of his head with nothing else around it. Obviously a bad transplant. I felt bad for him. If you want to find out if there is anyone good in your area, contact a dermatologist and ask them if they can recommend a hair transplant surgeon whose work they've seen. A referral from a knowledgeable doctor isn't a bad place to start.

<chuckle> I saw this question posed on another board, except masturbation was also considered as a possible cause of hairloss. One guy said he wanked-off 8 times a day. HAHAHAHA! Damn, that's one busy dude!

A question for you guys dividing your own pills: how do you know that you are getting the recommended dose? Medications are not necessarily evenly distributed in a pill. I was told this by a doctor. So, you could be getting too much of the active ingredient one day and none at all the next.

I've been wondering this myself. Did you try asking the doctor who did your HT? If you find out if you can color, let us know.

Usually, I can figure the terminology posters use by its context. However, I'm not certain what is meant by "closing temples". Does "closing temples" mean that instead of hair angling back on the sides until it meets the top that it would go straight up or curve forward as the hair does on a boy? I'd appreciate it if someone could define "closing temples" for me. Thanks.

SouthCarolina, I too am on my way to a NW 7 (maybe 6, I see a lot of confusion between the two) and I was wondering if you have any pics of your HT. Before and after of your 2nd HT... Shapiro is a local doc. I'd love to see what kind of work he does. I see a lot of people around here with a slightly receded hairline and they act like it's the end of the world. They have no idea what it's like to be a NW6 or NW7. Thanks.

So, the doctor comes in, draws the hairline, cuts the strip, then leaves, huh? So, they can pretty much do what, 4 or 5 transplants a day then? Sounds very assembly line to me. I was under the impression the doctor would be the one inserting most of the graphs. As important as that donor hair is, I couldn't imagine that they would let a lowly tech do it who could possibly screw it up. Are all clinics like this? In the end, it's the result that matters. And I suppose if all clinics are like this, then you don't have much of a choice. Is there anyone else out there who had a transplant where the doctor inserted most of the graphs? By the way, that Dr. Jones guy sounds like my worst nightmare.

Not long ago, there was a news story about a "cure for baldness" involving taking stem cells from hair follicles and reproducing them in the lab for implantation into scalps (or something like that). Back in 1989, they said that with Rogaine, a cure for baldness was only 10 years away. Well, 10 years came and went--no cure. Does anyone know what the thoughts are of hair loss professionals? Are there doctors out there who think this will be possible in 5 - 10 years? Or is this another far off dream? I've heard the song and dance before. Don't want to get my hopes up this time.
