  3. Drs., I tried Avodart - no great response. I'm 37, about a NWII to III, and have been losing hair slowly since 23...just wondering what your observations are with respect to Avodart? How are patients responding, and at what dosages? I used propecia for 6 years, but its efficacy starting waning...will minox at 5% help me? Up front?

  5. Here we are, 2005 is upon us...and the best we have for hairloss: 1. Propecia...just delays the day of reckoning for most.... 2. Avodart...unapproved, anecdotal evidence says better than Propecia, but no wonder drug.... 3. Minoxidil...messy, pain to use, limited benefit to frontal/temporal areas.... 4. Herbal remedies...a license to steal.... 5. HTs: hit or miss, mainly miss...costly, usually obvious...even if FUT, the bizarre "HT pattern" - no hair in the temples w/a peninsula of hair jutting out - hardly convinces...I can spot 'em in a second. Where are we? why is the field stopped dead in in its tracks?

  7. Justin, I hit the wall...after 6 years of propecia, now losing its effect, and after 2 years of investigating this, I've decided to to get an HT...many of on this board wil like to have my amount of hair, but it's driving me crazy...I need work in the temples and forelock area, so I need someone with great skill...I met with rose a year or so ago and liked him, but I held off hoping Avodart would reverse the slide...it didn't... Would love to see your pics...better still, would like to speak with you in peron at some point...
  8. Justin, I'm thinking of using Rose...met with him 2years ago, decided to hold off, but Propecia and then Avordart lost their punch with me...I'm a NW II/III, about where you were....are youstill happy? How's the close up of the hairline? That's where I'll need the most help- front and temples
  9. Come on folks! Surely there are others who have tried 'Dart!
  10. Brando, Your hairline pre HT looks like mine...plenty of recession up front. I'm pulling the trigger this year, looking to fill it in and square it off SOME (I'm 37 and figure that my hair will continue its slow progression, so I don't want to set the line too low)...please keep us posted. And where's your Dr?? Looks really good.
  11. Thanks...I'd like to see what others have to say...hopefully people will respond. The Nixon look...akin to our 37th President...that's the hairline that awaits me in a 3-4 years I think.... AS for the strength issue, I don't know if that's good if chemistry, not hardwork, is the cause. And I think that Dut.'s failure to be approved for hairloss at this point could be suggestive of problems, although this is purely speculation on my part.
  12. Folks, I'm 37, a NWII to III, power alleys, a few years from the Nixon look. I started losing hair at 22. Last year, in an effort to stave off a HT, I tried Avodart for one year after using Propecia for 5 years. The results were less than impressive, especially given the cost. MY hairloss stablized at first, then I began to shed massively, and my hairloss in the temple region looked worse than before....admittedly, I suppose the loss could have been worse had I been on Propecia, but let me say Avodart was not a significant improvement over Propecia, especially given the cost. And there seemed to be some side effects, including increased dream activity and substantial increases in strength and lean muscle mass. I have switched back to Propecia and now plan on a HT in the next year. I'd like others to record their Avodart experiences here. While this is hardly a scientific survey, I hope we can record our positive and negative experiences to see what threads emerge. THANKS!

  14. Pat, here's a thought...seems to me that $$$ is the biggest impediment to hairloss breakthroughs...what if this board set up a 501-c3 nonprofit to which members could donate, with the goal of creating a fund of X dollars to fund R and D? The money could be doled out, by a board perhaps composed of recommended Drs., to facilitate promising research....just a thought. Propecia is a bb gun in the hairloss war, and dutasteride is unapproved with results that are hardly "breakthrough"...grants at the university level could do a lot.
