dear fellas..

I had planned to go to pakistan in feb to undergo a hair transplant surgery with Dr. Hamayun. but because of the tension between the two countries (i am an indian), my dad has been a little reluctant to send me to pakistan and, after consulting my family doctor, he suggested me to go see Dr Hiren desai, a reputed plastic surgeon in my hometown.

Initially the meeting went well as the doc. was explaining to me that they use strip micro FUT and they have two very advanced microscopes and how much area he can cover in one session. but when i asked him what scar closure technique they used, he ducked the question by answering that the will stitch the scare with clips and the clips can be removed after 7-8 days. I though he misunderstood me and i again asked him about the closer technique but this time again he ducked by answering that many docs use different things to stitch the scars but we prefer clips. I again though he might have missed my point one more time and so this time i pressed him with a question " do you use triclosure technique to stitch the scare so the hairs can grow form the scars ?" but again he did not answered my question but instead said that the scare will be only 1mm thick...I got little worried but worst was still to come.. He went on to say that only 80% of the total hair grafts would grow and stand tall.. That did it to me and i felt as if some imaginary metal hand was squeezing my Adam apple...He also suggested that i can undergo a surgery in a weeks time and then can repeat the surgery after a period of six months and did not even talked about scalp exercise before undergoing a surgery...... Now i am not sure what should i make of this..?? I have learned in this forum that one should wait atleast an year before undergoing a surgery one more time and i have always though that almost all your grafts grows to become a full fledge hair...

And yeah he even invited me to witness a hairtransplant surgery he will be doing this weekend.. So i think he is very straight forward but the things he had said worries me...so is this doc right ?? please pour in your opinion guys...

Done done.. Check out my blog..

I would be worried trusting my skull to this guy. He may be good in other areas of plastic surgery, but sounds like HT is not his cup of tea. 80% is very low in FUT. 2 microscopes is not many for mega sessions (2,000+ fu's), they usually have 4. Hairs are suppose to exit scalp at an angle, not straight up, to give better illusion by reflecting light.

You give the impression that you feel this guy is less than forthcoming with you. Trust you instincts. Get 2nd opinions, even if online with several known clinics with stellar reputations.

P.S. There is another member on here that had a family doc refer him to a HT surgeon and the result was unsatisfactory to him. So much for the family physician being the best for referals.

Cheers!

Let this be noted that family doctor knows s**t about HT. Sometimes, i even wonder if the HT doctors themselves know enough about their trade. I found that some local doctors i consulted are really not up to par. You can only trust yourself and your research.

I am not a doctor. The opinions and comments are of my own.

Javy,

Are you referring to Dr. Humayun Mohmand who is recommended on the Hair Transplant Network?

I'm wondering if there was a misunderstanding or misinterpretation regarding the 80% growth. Maybe he meant something else?

In my opinion, contact him and ask him to offer a public reply to this thread to clarify what he meant.

Best wishes,

Bill

Dear Bill

Thanks for your reply.. I think you have misread my earlier post.. I was reffering to Dr. Mohamed Hamanyun but i did not went to see him in person.. i went to see a plastic surgeon in my hometown suggested by my family doc and the plastic surgeon said that only 80% of the grafts will grow on and not Dr Mohammed Humayun..

@leeson .. i think even Dr.Humayun uses two microscopes and is very well capable to do megasessions.....so i dont think that is a bone of contention here..

Javy,

Oh ok - you're reight - I did misunderstand.

As others have said, most general practioners don't know the first thing about hair transplant surgery. Remember that a "doctor" isn't trained in everything. A general practioner is a "jack of all trades" and then usually sends a patient to a specialist if it's beyond their expertise.

So no, your doctor isn't correct about the 80% - it's much higher with today's revolutionary tools and techniques in the right hands.

Best wishes,

Bill

Dear JAVY

Our general rate of survival is about 95 to 98%

I personally gurantee 90% of growth, anything less than that, I would double the grafts and do a free surgrey. Means if result is say subjectively about 80% and I did 2000 grafts, then 400 grafts did not grow so I will do a free 800 Grafts, 400 for what I promised and 400 as a compensation, but generally It hardly happens. I had to pay back full refund to only three patients in last 3000 surgeries as their result was about 50% and they did not trust me back for a second surgrey.

This is how my clinic works.

Dr. Mohmand is recommended on the Hair Transplant Network
