First HT, 4 days in, Extremely Concerned :/

Hello,

This is my first post after reading hundreds on this forum, some of which have informed me, some of which have comforted me, and recently, some of which have scared the hell out of me.

I just had my first HT, 4 days ago. At Nuhart in Dubai. I did research online beforehand, but did not read any horror stories until after the fact.

I am now very concerned because of the Nuhart reputation on the forums and would appreciate very much any and all feedback any of you experienced members can provide based on my situation.

I chose Nu / Hart because of cost. I do not have much free money and have wanted a HT for the last couple of years, but cost where I live (California) has been prohibitive for me. (Quotes anywhere from 5k to 8k for 1200 FU transplants, strip method). I happened to be traveling for work here in Dubai and was shocked by the quote Nuhart gave me of $2500 for a 1200 FUT. I went in for a consultation and was impressed by the doctor. His credentials looked good:

And he seemed like a knowledgable and good guy. Anyhow, I scheduled the HT and the procedure was not bad, the doctor showed me the strip after it was removed and later the individual FUs, mostly 1 hair, with some 2 hairs and a few 3s. I spoke with him through the procedure and honestly I liked the man as a human being. No used car salesman vibe at all, completely professional and sincere. The donor scar afterwords seemed a bit more noticable through my hair than I thought it would, but everything seemed to go smoothly. Had a bit of swelling on day 2-3, but has pretty much subsided.

I am on day 4 now and as I am resting and reading the hundreds of HT horror stories I am growing more and more worried, especially with the bad reputation Nu / Hart seems to have on many forums. I was prepared for some shock loss, but seems like I've had quite a bit already behind and on the sides of the front center hair area. Any experienced opinions based on my pictures and situation would be greatly appreciated. I want to know whether things are likely to get better or worse for me now :/

(I just turned 32, have always had thin hair, but no balding until the last 4 years maybe, becoming more and more depressing to me in the last couple. Father's side of the family has thin hair, with one of my 5 uncles almost completely bald; father has good hairline but thin. On my mother's side all the men have thick full hair, even into their 80s. I tried Propecia a couple of years back for a few months but the plan had been to follow that with a HT and I couldn't afford it so I stopped. )

Attaching pictures on the next post,

Thank you very much for any help,

mmmmmm, as a repair patient myself, I dont want to say anything to make you more worried, but Hair Transplants are not an area to go cheap on, you get what you pay for.

I dont think your going to get any density from this surgery, the grafts look big and very spaced apart.

Your HT journey wont be ending with this surgery, if you want a result that your gonna like, you will need quite a few more grafts, from a doc with a better reputation. Some of the docs that operated on me before I started getting repaired seemed like nice people, but it didnt make them good doctors at all.

I'd recommened consulting with Dr Feller and Dr Shapiro and Hasson and Wong, to see what they think. They are all in the USA and Canada.

Hi Sparky,

You don't think I'm going to get ANY density?

Wow, so in your opinion all of this was a complete waste of time and money plus the scar and risk I may actually lose hair and not gain any?

That is just devestating if true icon_frown.gif

Look at my blog on my most recent hairline HT and look how close the grafts are placed to each other, I had 1544 grafts to cover this small area in this procedure, all I'm saying is that this surgery that you have had is a stepping stone, and if you want a decent head of hair, you will want more doing.

I see the dense HR placement from your blog, but I thought too dense was dangerous when there is existing hair to damage?

I hope this will be a stepping stone and not a massive mistake. I was hoping for a few months of waiting for improvement, not catastrophe. Oh man am I worried.

Dense packing would only damage the surrounding hairs if they were put right on top of them. But good HT docs always transplant around these. It doesnt have to be a catastrophe, I had 4 bad HT's when I didnt even need 1 HT, now I've had to undergo having hairs put into my scar and my hairline redone. The hairs put into my hairline were very badly angled, and this has made my hair hard to style.

To properly assess yuou hair, you should contact those docs I mentioned, if only to get peace of mind, most of the people on here are not docs and can only help you from experience.

On the bright side the closure looks pretty good and you have not depleted your donor area.

You need to forget about the money spent and any future costs to get the result you want at the moment. First and foremost you must treat your donor area as very precious. You do not get any second chances.

Do some research and talk to and see patients in person. If you do not see patients in person you will never truly know what a hair transplant really looks like. Don't do anything until you have done the research, found the right doctor, and can afford the outcome you desire. The forums are fine for gathering information, but they are also used as a tool to sell the procedure.

I have to concur with Sparky. The large scabs and the spacing might indicate he used micrografts. Unfortunately when a clinic earns a bad reputation it usually deserves it. The upside is that you were not butchered and you can have another surgery to dense pack around the nu hart work. That's exactly what I had to do and it ended up working out fine.
