Regular Member Bej520 Posted December 2, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted December 2, 2023 Hi Guys, I’m 6 days post op now and was wondering whether I could shave my head during the ugly duckling phase? I’ve kept a razor shaved head for about 5 years so feel comfortable shaving my head, and would rather this than patchy growth that would highlight my existing SMP. Is there any reason why I can’t? From what I’ve read here, your grafts are secure after 10 days, so was wondering if I could do a wet shave.
Senior Member Hairwolf Posted December 2, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted December 2, 2023 Generally you are advised to wait for a month post op, and that’s with clippers. Don’t even think of using a wet razor on your head so soon after surgery.

I just want to know why though, if the recipient site and grafts are sealed and healed.
Senior Member Hairwolf Posted December 3, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted December 3, 2023 The scalp doesn’t heal for months actually so you would cause irritation and a lot of trauma to the scalp- you would certainly feel it. The scalp needs to heal for growth to be optimal.
