pnl
Dear members. I am a 29-year-old man who started taking Dutasteride five years ago. Over the past 5 years, I have been able to maintain my hair. However, this summer, I suddenly and rapidly (within 2 months) started losing hair and became bald. In a very short period, I lost a lot of hair. It is now November, and I can see that it is slowly starting to grow back. However, it is still far from how it was before the summer. Now I have 2 questions. Can Dutasteride suddenly stop working after 5 years? If it no longer works, why are the hairs growing back slowly (or is this part of the miniaturization process)? Thank you!

Regular Member mxnprettynice Posted November 28, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted November 28, 2023 Start using microneedling and minoxidil fast before your hair follicles diminish completely. I assure you, it will lead to complete hair regrowth. I know I keep advocating this on this forum but microneedeling has made significant impact on my hair. Id recommend any derma pen for ths

Sometimes I used derma roller and other times I used derma pen. Recently, according to some researches (but they are ambiguous so take my conclusion "cum grano salis", I'm using 1 mm, every five days. I see an overall increase in density/covering effect. I can't say it is because I have more hair or ticker hair or both. On the temporal peaks, I see an increase in baby hair (it can't be different, because the TP are made of baby hair). On the HL I see new hair coming out. At the beginning, about 5 years ago, I used a mixture of olive oil and castor oil. Since a couple of years, I'm using minoxidil. So you derma roll and then apply minoxidil afterwards, or before? Do you clean your scalp with iodine or alcohol before and after to prevent infection? also with the derma penn, do you use a new blade each time, or do you sterilize it afterwards. i had a dermapen years ago and found that the alleged surgical steel pins would rust after being cleaned with alcohol

I use some minoxidil before (just because it makes easier the microneedeling) and some minoxidil after. No, I just use alcohol to Clean the tool and stop. Regular Member mxnprettynice Posted November 28, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted November 28, 2023 Yes, @12345 @duchaine it is indeed a game changer. Typically, the results are seen around four months. Especially good for miniaturized hair. Personally, I use a 2mm depth, but I advise starting at 1mm and gradually increasing to 1.5mm. Over time, the nerves and skin adapt, and the discomfort reduces. Below, I'm excited to showcase a photo with my remarkable results from microneedling combined with minoxidil (and finasteride)

Regular Member mxnprettynice Posted November 29, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted November 29, 2023 @12345 I use a derma pen, which you can find on Amazon or a local online store. I wouldn't recommend rollers and stamps. I apply minoxidil immediately after microneedling and wear a hat, as I've read a study that says most topical minoxidil evaporates. @duchaine These results are from before I had a hair transplant. I stopped microneedling during the transplant and resumed 2 months and 8 days post-transplant.

You should find a specialist hair dermatologist -you might have an inflammatory or autoimmune condition e.g. LPP or Areata - or something else. It doesn't appear to be usual MBP based on the pattern and speed.
