when to wash the head after an HT?

You need to wait several days or else you risk grafts coming out or getting infected. You can/should spray the area every few hours with a saline solution using a spray bottle to keep the area from getting too dried out and also help remove any dried blood. You should ask your Dr for exact instructions. They should have told you or given you written instructions of what to do.

They allowed me to wash my head the second day after they had washed mine the first time.

Under strict procedures such as no direct shower contact for ~ 1 - 2 weeks, using a cup with soapy water to pour over the grafts.

thanks for the reply, i will have my HT at 17 january and in 18 january the clinic will wash my hair, should i refuse the wash?

I would follow the advice of the clinic, if they want to wash your hair the next day then let them. My hair was washed by the clinic the day after.

What are you saying? You had no direct shower contact with recipient for 12 weeks post op? That's ridiculous

That was a typo, my bad. So for about a week or so, you don't have the shower water hit the grafts directly. Basically you don't blast the area with water if you still have scabs (takes 1-2 weeks to fall off).

@AndyFreecs,

it’s important that you follow your physicians postoperative instructions which will also include specific instructions on how to wash your hair and scalp post transplant. Yes, it’s OK to wash your hair and scalp according to the specific instructions you’re given 24 hours afterwards, but you won’t be able to resume normal showering for A few days. I have found that instructions very From Clinic to Clinic. Some will have you avoid normal showering for a week or two while others will have you shower and normally I’m working on the scabs within a few days.

I hope this helps
