Regular Member Tomi Posted November 1, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted November 1, 2022 Hey I’m just curious and can’t seem to find a straight answer, can I buzz my hair down to number 1 after one month after surgery to minimize the effect of the ‘ugly duckling’ stage? Senior Member Zoomster Posted November 1, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted November 1, 2022 No problem whatsoever ..ive done it,Melvin and thousands of others . You need a surgical procedure at one month to remove or dislodge /harm a graft .
Senior Member StillAlive Posted November 1, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted November 1, 2022 With the donor you can do anything you want. Some doctors recommend only using scissors on the recipient area for the first 6 months to give it a proper chance to heal and grow, even if it means looking a bit awkward during the first trimester. Valued Contributor Berba11 Posted November 1, 2022 Valued Contributor Share Posted November 1, 2022 You can, but make sure you use a plastic guard and be nice and gentle over the recipient area. You won't dislodge any grafts, but your scalp will still be a bit sensitive, red, and maybe a bit numb still from the anaesthetic - so be a bit delicate. Senior Member Zoomster Posted November 1, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted November 1, 2022 Good point..not steel to scalp obviously..use a guard 👍
Senior Member NARMAK Posted November 1, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted November 1, 2022 Personally i left it to grow out myself as i went completely bald but as others have said, if you can use a plastic guard, shouldn't be an issue. However, i felt the hair grown out hit the redness sometimes people get and it probably hides the donor area whilst healing. Your recipient area however depending on the size won't necessarily be easy to hide whether you grow your hair out or buzz it down imo but can see an argument for it being a bit easier when buzzed. Personally i wanted to regrow my hair ASAP because i had frontal and temple point restoration and longer hair combed forward would give a possibility to hide it. Rahal Hair Transplant
Tomi, You can absolutely cut your hair and croo it down as short as you want as quickly as one week to 10 days after hair transplant surgery. In terms of how much it’s going to minimize the effects of the “ugly duckling“ phase will depend on a number of factors. At the end the day, you may still experience postoperative redness/inflammation, shock loss, shedding of the transplanted hair, etc. Now obviously, the effects of postoperative healing will be less noticeable with your hair cropped short than it would be if your hair was longer - with the exception of any postoperative redness would be more visible with your hair crop short. Long story short however, you can crop your hair a short as you would like as early as one week to 10 days after surgery and definitely at one month without any problems. Best wishes, Rahal Hair Transplant Yep, I just did a #0.5 to #1 buzz cut fade 11 days after surgery with no issues. The clippers did nick a section of built up dead skin and there was the smallest amount of blood but I doubt it harmed the grafts.
