I can dedect when someone has had one. That doesnt mean he doesnt look good though. The ones I have seen look very good. I think SMP has improved in the last few years. Other than filling the horseshoe shadow pattern with transplanted hair, the only improvement options for a consistent look are SMP or doing repeated hair laser removal sessions until all the follicles are nuked out of hair producing existence.
