Surgeon: Dr. Ozlem Bicer (Istanbul, Turkey)

Date: 11th Nov 2021

Age: 30

First Noticed signs of Hair Thinning / Recession: 8 years back

NW Scale: 4

Surgical Plan: Restructure of the Hairline + Adding Density to Frontal Region.

Surgical Technique: FUE by Micromotor

Graft Count: 3,080 Grafts

Singles: 1,200

Doubles: 1,520

Multiples: 360

Despite the fact that I have researched a few times regarding Hair Transplants, I never thought that I would take the plunge, I always thought that eventually I would go towards the ‘shaving it all’ route. A day after the surgery, my wife asked me what really changed my mind to go forward with this and the only proper answer I can think of was that I stumbled onto this forum. The idea that I can learn and get a better idea of the entire Journey from people who have been through the procedure has helped get a much better understanding of the process. Documenting my journey here is just a small way of giving back to this forum.

A few excerpts from my Experience (Especially for those who are considering Dr. Bicer):

Went to the clinic a day before the surgery. I would highly advise doing this as the pre-op formalities (Filling and Signing of the form, Blood work etc.) takes about an hour to complete. After the formalities were completed, Dr. Bicer analyzed the donor area followed by a short consultation with her about my expectations. I would give full marks to her to really calming my nerves here as I was getting highly anxious regarding the procedure.

As for the Surgery day, it’s actually very comforting that you are the only patient on that day, therefore all eyes are on you. I reached the clinic at 9am. We started with a hairline design. Dr. Bicer was a bit more conservative then I was but after multiple iterations we were able to come an agreement for the hairline.

The most painful part of the surgery is the administration of local anesthesia. It lasts for 2 to 3 minutes but it feels like a LOT longer. I slept for most part of the Extraction and the Incision phase but from what I can remember, for the Extraction phase Dr. Bicer is assisted by 2 techs. Incisions are done by the doctor and the Implantation is done by techs. The entire procedure lasted 9 hours.

Day 10 Update:

On the night after the 6th Day, I felt a sharp pain in my donor area which woke me up in the middle of the night. It was a mixture of burning sensation and like needles poking at at the back of my head. I messaged the clinic but as it was the middle of the night I knew that I wont be getting a reply till the morning so I started researching the Forum as well regarding this. This community came through for me again. Turns out this is quite common. It, generally, starts from the 5th day and lasts for about a week. In order to mitigate this pain, I started applying Aloe Vera on the donor area. This has helped quite a lot. I still feel the pain but the severity has reduced. Received a call from Dr. Bicer in the morning. She also confirmed that this is quite common and nothing to be worried about.

Other then this, the Recovery has been quite smooth sailing. Almost done with removing all the scabs as well.

1-Month Update:

Shedding started 2.5 weeks after the Surgery but have not fully entered the dreaded ugly-duckling phase.

Overall, the Recovery have been very smooth. Had a chat with Dr. Bicer yesterday, would be starting Minoxidil and Keto shampoo (twice a week) from tomorrow onwards.

5-Month Update:

Still a bit Early in the Journey but everything seems to be going well. The Donor has fully recovered. The progress of the Recipient Area is satisfactory as well especially the left side of the Hairline.

Looking to be a winner!

You are an amazing candidate with donor galor, no crown loss and a nice skin<>hair contrast.  Your course hair would suggest that your coverage would be great but that there may be difficulty in establishing a natural hairline. Not in this case - great work.

Make sure you stay on the meds! I did not and lived to regret it 😖

7.5-Month Update:

Quite satisfied with the results up till now. Most of the Transplanted hairs are still a bit wiry but hoping that they become mature and thick by the time I hit the 12-month mark.
