I'd like to hear more on this, though, as I never got an absolute answer. Slow healer correlation could be, but I've never heard of that; especially, in this case it's his scar that you are referring to and I was a very slow healer myself in that regard (my recipient healed remarkably well, though). I would suggest going with a buzz cut until more growth is visible. The scar was red for a quite some time post-op, but not sure if that would translate into slow growth elsewhere. For the time being, I will probably keep it a bit shorter and hopefully it will fill out in the next few months. I'll wait till April, but as of now it isn't looking good and it looks like you lost lots of native hair. I hope it comes in and your second ht finishes it well. We also took pics with the hair wet and the hair dry. I can't state the importance of proper styling more strongly. Without it, most hair transplants are near useless. Dr. Alan Feller Posted January 5, 2009 Share Posted January 5, 2009 The next session depends on Repomans choice of styling. He has his heart set on being able to comb the hair straight back. That's fine and do-able, but he will sacrafice area to do it. I'm still waiting for his first HT to mature before we decide on round 2. If it were up to me I would fill in the midscalp area and perhaps take a few hundred grafts and thicken up the hairline as well. The original rements of the hairline he had in the before photos are now about 90% gone so there are some gaps visible. I would target those sites on the hairline. Dr. Alan Feller Posted January 6, 2009 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Because you have a very flexible skin another 3000 grafts is not out of the question. HOWEVER, there is a "trade off" which is the possibility of a wider scar. It's not a lock that you WILL have a wider scar, but the probability is higher because of that flexible skin and is something you need to take into account. Then the question becomes the age HT old question which is: Density or Area? If density is primary, than I would go over the area we covered in the first session. If area is primary, then I would work BEHIND the transplant. If an optimal mix of the two is desired, then I would put most on the top and some in the front. Maybe a 2000 (top) and 1000(front) split. Somewhere in there. But remember, you are only at 9 months, your hair is still thickening and maturing. All the best. Grow well. I'll make it a point to be more precise with my own photos, as well. Repo_Man -- for what it's worth, there's a big difference between your "before" and "after" shots. It does look as if a side-parted style is the best option for coverage. But there is indeed still thickening to come! Sending good follicular wishes... Remember that those with extensive hair loss cannot achieve "true" density, but only an illusion. Hairstyling plays a huge role in this. Your messy hair pictures show your hair without any layering effect, that is, hair overlapping each other creating more visual density. As Facelessman said, you should still experience some thickening of the hair. But I expect another large session will help you meet your long term hair restoration goals. I know many people without visible loss who do not hold up that well under moisture. I think it looks good combed forward. I also now realize that there are many "home run" photos on the internet that can probably be combed in ways that would completely alter one's perception. However....however....just how thick and cool it looks is intricately connected to how (well) I style it. I considered taking some shots of my hair under some conditions and posting -- and I don't mean absurd or extreme ones, either -- to show how much different my hair can look. Just as a side note : have you done an audit of how many grafts placed have actually started growing ? No offence to the Dr. but, i think I read in one of his previous posts in this thread that the grafts should be placed carefully/differently for an asian/middle-easterner otherwise they may not all grow... see the Dr.s post on page 1 thanks.
