Staples or Sutures?

Sutures can bunch up the scar and cause it to be raised above the level of the surrounding scalp. I think the term is "baseballing" due to the resemblence to the seams on a baseball.

Staples apply a very uniform tension so the scar heals at the same level as the scalp.

I used sutures, and from a pain standpoint they appear better. But, like biscuit says that could override the pain. I actually didn't know that fact.

BTW, biscuit's avator looks awesome.

I have had both and with the sutures you dont really realize they are there but staples are a pain in the butt.

I had the thinnest scar with sutures but staples are preferred by alot of clinics.

I suppose it all depends on whos doing

the sutures.

I know for the doctor staples are real quick but Ive also seen scars from the staple .

Ive read staples are better but for me they werent

I'm just guessing here since I'm not an expert but I would think a doctor would have more control with sutures than with staples.

Depends on the doctor's skill. As the key is often the deep layer of subcutaneous sutures, the skin closure is just to even the edges for a week.

I prefer sutures, Dr. Feller gets nice results with staples.

Dr. Davis, the facial plastic surgeon who taught me facial surgery appeared to get the same results with either staples or sutures for skin closure on foreheads and faces of both men and women. Conversely, there are folks who can't sew their way out of a room with the lights on, and staples probably wouldn't help them any either.

All depends on the doctor's preference.

I had a Tricloture or somthing like that with Virginia Surgical done 8 1/2 months ago. Hair grows out from the scar to cover it.. I cannot even find my scar. I looked for it all day so I could post. I will post later today as I believe from personal experience it is the best or at least dr. Segev at Virginia Surgical did a good job.

I'd love to see somebody with their hair cut to a 1 comb whose scar does not show. That would be great.

Wantego,

I'm going to do an experiment in mid-July, as I am going to Yellowstone for a 10-day vacation. The day before I leave I'm going to shave down to a one and take some pics. I told my wife last night I'd like to see how the scar looks shaved down.

So, I'll look forward to posting the pics. At that time, I'll be about 16 months out of my second surgery, so we'll see how a suture tricho scar looks.

I just hope it grows pretty good for the couple of weeks before I get back in front of clients at the first of August.

I wonder if some docs use staples along with sutures under the skin . It seems like it could be a difficult thing if you had to get a family member to take out the staples without disturbing the sutures beneath the surface .

Just a thought , not really sure if it applies .

whether staples or sutures all depends on the quality of control by the surgeon. SO results should not make much of difference between two if done properly. I personally prefer sutures as my surgical background was of Plastic surgrey.

But I for sure know that post operatively sutures are much more comfortable than staples with respect to patient point of view.

So if some one ask me if I would like to have my surgrey done with staples or sutures I would go for sutures no question asked.
