Pain in non donor/recipient area post FUE

Recommended Posts

30/Male. Had an 850 graft FUE procedure for minor temple recession. Stable hair loss for 5 yrs on Finasteride.

10 days out, donor area is sore but on the top of my head, the right side toward the temple is a generalized burning pain that’s gotten worse over the last few days. Definitely spreading/diffusing outward but hasn’t affected the recipient site.

I can pinpoint a single area where it’s worst but the pain is felt outward along my usual part line. Feels like a bad sunburn but no visible redness and I haven’t gone in the sun.

Doesn’t hurt to press upon. No hairs falling out in a pull test. However, it’s very sore. Hurts to lightly touch. Ibuprofen alleviates it somewhat but not enough.

Nervous it’s a sign of hair loss to come. Anyone else experience this? Possible nerve damage? Triggered some kind of autoimmune response? Haven’t been able to find much out there for similar experiences.

Thanks for the time.

Hi welcome to the forum,

what you have described is fairly common, many nerve endings are severed during the excision of grafts, when the nerves begin healing and repairing you may experience some discomfort, but it will go away as the weeks progress.

warm regards-Melvin

Sounds like some severed nerves.

You can also try using extra strength Tylenol...2 tablets every 6 hours or so.

This sounds very similar to what I experienced after my HT, but mine was isolated in the donor area. Permanent nerve damage is extremely rare, so what you're probably experiencing is temporary nerve irritation and it will most likely subside. My pain got worse at night when I was trying to sleep, so I used an ice pack on the back of my head to help numb it a little, along with some pain killers as needed.
