Regular Member Dmhead Posted August 27, 2017 Regular Member Share Posted August 27, 2017 I'm planning on using the hair system, but I want to do it by myself. Because it's very expensive to let the hair salons do it for me, where I'm from. So has anybody done this by themselves?

Regular Member Dmhead Posted August 30, 2017 Author Regular Member Share Posted August 30, 2017 start with supertape, liquid adhesive, a remover solution, shampoo and conditioner where you buying your piece from? I was thinking Ebay. I've searched for the items you listed, and I found many of them.
Senior Member grincher Posted August 30, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted August 30, 2017 You need to be careful with ebay! There are a few genuine suppliers on there but if its direct from China or something under ?170 it will be rubbish. Likewise don't pay more than ?350 for a piece. The sweet spot for price and quality is between them
Senior Member jjsrader Posted August 30, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted August 30, 2017 Check out the Northwest Lace forum. Lot of DIY posts. This is really good advice! Best 'toup' message board on the internet; good quality and you can customize (the sky is the limit) & members are active and eager to help. One thing I never really understood was why don't guys truly 'customize' the frontal hairline and make it irregular and ventilate it artistically? One could take pics of the best 'artistic fronts' and go to someone who does ventilate (local theatre person) or send to someone who does custom front work and seriously have a great hairline. Good luck!
Senior Member grincher Posted August 30, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted August 30, 2017 Great advice. I get pieces custom made from a place in the UK and then I pluck the front line just how I like it
Regular Member Dmhead Posted September 1, 2017 Author Regular Member Share Posted September 1, 2017 Great advice. I get pieces custom made from a place in the UK and then I pluck the front line just how I like it Do you have links to places in the UK I can order a hair system? And about Ebay, I should buy between the price of $200-300, but not below or over it right?
Senior Member grincher Posted September 2, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted September 2, 2017 Do you have links to places in the UK I can order a hair system? And about Ebay, I should buy between the price of $200-300, but not below or over it right? Below that price tends to be lower grade hair and quality and above that is excessive as there is not much difference between the good suppliers - you are paying for offices, advertising and staff, but online place wont carry those overheads and pieces seems to come from the same place. I have used the below for a few years now and Im happy with them. http://www.ukhairsystems.com

Senior Member grincher Posted September 11, 2017 Senior Member Share Posted September 11, 2017 If you have an old system you can use that I think also some places take measurements from you - usually thats for a full cap, but a mould will be the most accurate. I always send one in.

Stark
I have been applying my own hair systems for more than a year now. It is not to challenging except getting the hairline right for me. I don't expose the hairline so that is not that big of deal. A lot of people do though.
