0.5mg Dutasteride Weekly

Interested in hearing from anyone who is taking 1mg of Finasteride daily but has 0.5mg of Dutasteride weekly or twice weekly.

I've been taking 1mg of Fin for 12 years and thinking that it's losing some of its effect on me. I know there are people following above regime as I searched but many of those conversations are years old. Are people experiencing success with the above regime?

Thinking I may follow suit if this is the case.

I would not mix the 2 medications as a regimen. And IMHO, most doctors would tell you the same because of the effects the combination can have on the prostrate.

Either way, I cannot recommend enough the need to only make these decisions under the direct advice and oversight of a licensed physician experienced in prescribing theses meds for treating MPB.

It would seem that quite a few people are doing this already though.

You are correct though in that I should have a conversation with my GP before moving forward with any of this.

Although there may be a number of guys who are using both, that does not imply it is safe or advisable. You would be shocked at the things I see some guys do...

Also, you want to make sure your GP is well versed and knowledgeable in treating genetic hair loss. Many are not believe it or not.

The HT doctors you are conversing with should be able to provide you the advice and information that you need.

Best wishes to you my friend...;)

My derm prescribes both 5 days Propecia / 2 days Avodart.

BUT and a BIG BUT: Gillenator is correct about the effects of these meds on the prostate. Finesteride or Dutasteride, if taken separately, may lower PSA scores by up to 300%. Although taken together, these drugs may have a synergistic effect on hair growth, they may also have this increased effect on reducing PSA levels even lower than if taken individually.

Make sure you get PSA BLOOD WORK prior to starting either of these meds (whether taken individually or together) for a benchmark reading, as well as yearly prostate exams and yearly PSA BLOOD work.

This is not to scare you but only to inform you. If you are interested going down this path just find a doctor that has been monitoring patients on this regimen for a while.

That's very good advice!

Most people don't mention this important part of starting Fin/Dut.

go dense or go home

Thank you guys for the advice. It's not until you read responses like this that you actually stop and think about the bigger picture. I must admit that I am often so focused on my hair loss that I don't even consider other health implications when it comes to medication. I have had no adverse reactions to Fin for 12 years and am still only 35 so one would hope my prostate is in good shape.

I am London based, could anyone recommend a derm or specialist that I could speak to about this? It seems that many people self prescribe Dutasteride online.

Your are absolutely correct and I see guys purchase these meds online without ever consulting with a licensed physician or having an PSA done to espablish a baseline as rev333 pointed out.

Good advice from rev333...;)
