SMP for density?

Recommended Posts

Etown,

Scalp micro pigmentation if strategically placed in between and around transplanted or natural hair, may make your hair appear more dense from a distance. That's because there will be less visible scalp. But, at the end of the day scalp micro pigmentation is just tattooing and will do nothing to make your hair actually thicker or fuller. I've considered getting some scalp micro pigmentation in the crown area or blow it in conjunction with another hair transplant to attempt to make it appear thicker. My crown is rather then still despite all the work I've had done so I think this could be a good strategy.

That said, I still don't like the idea of having to go back every couple of years to get more SMP work done to replace the old since temporary SMP disappears after a couple of years. That said, permanent SMP could be a mistake since discoloration can occur after several years and it may result in looking unnatural and I'd be stuck with it. So I guess there's a part of me still waiting for something to give, perhaps some innovation that will prevent permanent SMP from discoloring or temporary SMP to become so popular that everybody is doing it and well so I wouldn't have to go any further than my own backyard to get it done.

Best wishes,

Bill

It's important to note that to use SMP as a form of permanent concealer that you have to have enough hair for it to look natural. Remember SMP is a 2d procedure (skin, follicle replication). If you add hair into the mix it becomes 3d. Now, that can look great if the hair is distributed evenly. But, if you put hair into a bald crown that has hair around it (for instance) it will be very obvious and unnatural looking. Also, with this technique you need to keep your future hair loss in mind. What happens if you lose more hair? You need to have a future plan in place.

yes - i have.

Am a vertex 3, I originally was just going to have a shaved look but after I had SMP I found out about toppik and a little sprinkling on my hair make it look like i've zero thinning.

Basically the scalp is darker than it was before so creates an illusion of density.

I am still confused why hair transplants and SMP aren't used in conjunction as from the few cases i've seen it makes a good difference.

I agree with you... Smp should be great with a HT to add look of density.

Are you happy with the results?

Would you mind posting some pics.

i have had some smp after 5 transplants, and to Nicoles point yes you have to have some or alot of hair for it to be effective . if your frontal or crown has some density the smp will colour the scalp, hence not giving you more hair, but taking away seeing the whiteness of the scalp. i think its a great solution when basically you dont have many other choices

Hi Bill

Under a shadow effect, it looks like I have a full head of hair when I don't. Can SMP do the same?

Question:

To what degree can SMP minimize or remove the appearance of an FUT scar--by 25%, 50%, etc? I realize it will vary based on scar length and appearance.

Depends on the color, texture, and width of the scar. If the scar is flat and light you should be able to get 90%ish. If it is indented or raised expect 50%. If the scar is very wide it is important to note that you will have to keep it at a shaved look because you can't camouflage the gap. If you let the hair grow around the scar it then looks like a scar with dots...

If you look through my photos I give a patient history at the beginning. Many of my patients have had transplants. Actually, the great majority. You are correct, ht and smp are a great combination. If you don't feel like combing through the threads you can msg me and I can send some.

I've also done a good amount of thickening work where we add the appearance of density to hair transplants. There are some examples on our web site. I'm also going to be trying out a new Beauty Medical needle in the next few weeks that is designed specifically for thickening work.
