How much hope is there to restore my crown?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Hope you are all doing well. I'm a new user here who has been suffering from noticeable hair loss for about a year. I just started using the big three (finasteride, nizoral, and minoxidl) about two months ago. Probably should have started earlier, but luckily I still have some decent coverage on my scalp and some hairs on the vertex. What do you guys think I can expect? I'm not hoping to have the head of hair I had ten years ago, but I would like to reverse it to maybe its early 2014 status.

I'm going to try the non-surgical treatments first, then maybe try an FUE on the crown if I don't get results after a year. How much do you think it would cost to fill in the crown area with a hair transplant?

Thanks!

how old are you? Typically the crown continues expanding with age, if you're on the big 3 it's best to wait hopefully it reverses the miniaturization process. The crown is best left conservative I'd say no more than 1,000 grafts currently at your present state, but again I don't recommend just yet, grow your hair out use concealer if you have to hold off on the HT.

Wait at least 1 full year before making any decisions as the others have suggested. There is no point in trying to work out graft numbers and cost at this stage you may have some good regrowth and not require surgery. Starting in the crown with surgery if you are under 30 is risky and you need to go slow to preserve grafts if the front and mid scalp goes.

I would also grow it out you seem to have quite a bit of hair still and when the hair is longer it covers the scalp much more effectively.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll keep going with the treatments and hope for the best. I'm 27 years old btw. Out of curiosity, what are the risks of hair transplantation before the age of 30? Also, is it worth it to travel to a place like Costa Rica or the Dominican Republic to have the operation done? I'm all the way up in Michigan.
