FUE 3000 or FUT 1300 follices?

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I would like to seek your advice.

I am considering between Dr Ruban Nathan and Dato Dr Jasvinderr of Glojas Health Clinic, both in Malaysia.

Dr Ruban proposed FUT for 1300 follicles in one session and charges RM12 per follicle.Total Cost RM16,000

Dr Jas proposed FUE for 3000 follicles in one session and charges RM8 per follicle. Total cost RM24,000. Dr Jas likes to emphasise he is the ONLY Diplomate American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (DABHRS) in Malaysia.

According to Norton's classification, I am type IV and need 2200-3400 follicles in total for the front and 3400-3800 if with the crown.

My questions:

1. Will doing FUE with 3000 follicles in a single session have high likelihood of survival rates? I read that too long sessions will reduce the survival rates of the follicles.

2. Dr Jas has just open his clinic 6 months, though his staff says he used to practice somewhere else in another clinic. Hence, there is an element of doubt.

3. How creditable is this DABHRS?

4. Dr Ruban credibility

and says that his staff are "surgical transplant assistants are the designated trainers at the International Hair Restoration Annual Forums & at the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine courses "

Your advice highly sought.... especially since I am making a decision within the next few days...

See if you can see a couple of patients of this doc in person..look for forum folks that may have gone to them as well. Ask the surgeon of their FUE surgical protocol if you decide FUE. Ask if technicians will surgically extract or what parts of surgery the doctor will perform? Ask if they will do more than one patient a day? Aside from that, if you decide fue of 3000 grafts, it may be wise to take it nice and slow and break it up into 2 procedures. You dont know how long your grafts will be out of your body and exposed to air which can kill the hair. It is best to maximize your safety to make sure you get a satisfactory result. After all, your investing a lot of money, time, effort for this, so, it is best to try to get it done right the first time. Goid luck.

Another aspect to consider is the operation itself. I was supposed to just have 3,000 done in an operation in September, but we stopped at 2,100 because I just wasn't coping with it that well and was apparently bleeding quite a lot! So I'm going to have another 1,000 in 5 months, and possibly more.

You might very well cope with the operation better than me, but 2,100 grafts took six hours, and I'm assured from other people's experience that these are very efficient surgeons, so it is a bit of a slog.

If there are no patient blogs/experiences from either of these docs then you are taking more of a gamble in using these docs, don't rush in to anything and take your time.

Thanks for your answers.

Actually, you guys raised a good question ...how do I know if the doctor cut and transplant 1500 or 3000 hair follicles?

The entire operation takes from 9am - 8pm. But I think the morning is taken with taking out for the hair follicles and cutting holes for the implant and after lunch, the nurses implanting it.

2. Todate, I have only seen before and after photos of the doctor's patient. One after 6 months with FUT and FUE process before, growing well.

3. The doctor has not shown me any patient before and after photos with FUE of 3000 + hairs, citing confidentiality.

4. There are no customer blogs of either of these 2 doctors. Though the FUT doctor did give me a hp of his patient, whom i whatsapp and he expressed satisfaction with his operation.

5. Does a FUE / FUT operation almost always get hair growth? The FUE doctor says his success rate is 95%. True?

Like i said, you are taking a gamble. These ops are successful if done by skilled doctors.

I found a thread here on HTN about Dr Rubin http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/180900-hair-transplant-malaysia-fut-dr-ruban-nathan.html

He is also a dermatologist. He seems to recommend 1300 grafts al ot so i thinking that is because that is all he can do in a day.

As for the other doctor i found very little of him mentioned online.

Dear Petchski,

Ya.. thanks. I read the thread about Dr Rubin.

Datu Dr Jas G....yup, no mention here...though there is some mention in Smart International Aesthetic - Medical Aesthetics Clinic in Sri Hartamas - WhatClinic.com

But unable to contact the 42 years old reviewer there who said his hair grew....

Meanwhile, I am taking up your advice and do more research. I was planning to do it next week :]

I'd definitely take your time, and also be prepared to travel abroad if needed. I know this adds to the cost, but a bad poor HT costs a lot more in the end, money wise and emotionally.

Just to back up what Petchski is saying, it took me 18 months to decide, I researched the matter diligently, and travelled to Germany from England. As for the results, I'm still waiting to see! But it's not something you should jump into.

Progress...

I decided to go with Dr Jas G. He has kindly arranged for me to see his past patient, who highly recommends him and has gone for 2 transplants with him already.

His lovely wife has been very patient with me and removed my doubts.

Just 1 more thing... Dr Jas G charges are RM10 - RM12 per follicle , NOT RM 8

I be doing my hair transplant in March 2016 and will update on the results.

Cheers

Generally surgeons recommend no more than 1500 in one session, I think once the follicles have been extracted the longer they are out of the scalp the survival rates diminishes, a bit like a tadpole can only survive so long out of water if you get my drift.

1500 grafts is a fairly conservative HT these days and would be considered a smaller session . Anywhere from 3 to 5 thousand is easily attainable these days . Some surgeons do in excess of this , but as always , do the reserach.
