Regular Member harry1 Posted June 15, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted June 15, 2015 Hi, is Nizoral sold on Amazon 1% whereas is Nizoral sold by prescription 2%? Are there other products with a higher % of the active ingredient that are better than Nizoral? Or is Nizoral considered the best? Is 2% Nizoral worth the cost and hassle over 1% Nizoral? Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted June 16, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted June 16, 2015 Yes, 2% is only available by prescription. I've only ever used the 1% even though I've heard that it's not nearly as effective for hair loss. As far as I'm aware, there is no product that contains more that 1% without a prescription and many other over-the-counter products that contain ketoconazole contain less that 1%. Senior Member thatoldchestnut Posted June 17, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted June 17, 2015 The Nizoral I buy over the counter (and indeed the only Nizoral I've ever seen) is 20mg/g and hence, 2%. Might be because I'm in the UK.

Regular Member harry1 Posted June 19, 2015 Author Regular Member Share Posted June 19, 2015 "I've only ever used the 1% even though I've heard that it's not nearly as effective for hair loss" Based on this info sounds like I should try to get a prescription for 2%. Can anyone else provide any input on this assertion?
Senior Member spyk777 Posted June 19, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted June 19, 2015 @harry. Yep I know. Just took a leap of faith and bought a small bottle. Let's see how it goes.

Regular Member harry1 Posted July 26, 2015 Author Regular Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 So can anyone here report if they've had better results after switching to 2%? Or can anyone provide a url to a scientific study that tested this?
Senior Member gbhscot Posted July 26, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 Have only ever used 2% but I have found it to reduce shedding a bit. Where I am ( Austria) it's prescription free...i'd expect that to be the case most places.
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted July 26, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted July 26, 2015 I've used both 2% and 1%. Didn't notice much difference between them. In fact, I sort of liked the texture of 1% a little better.
