abaldcamper
i know its kind of a useless question since oyu cant extract the grafts on the areas that are not considered the donor area but how many grafts in total does your average person have on their entire scalp if they were not balding? thanks
Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted April 17, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted April 17, 2015 I suppose this question could be answered by considering two averages. First, the average human head has about 100,000 hairs. It's also said that the average number of hairs per graft is about 2.2. If those numbers are correct, that would put the average number of follicular units on a healthy head at around 45,455 with only about 8,000 donor grafts available in the "permanent zone". Regular Member WRajah2012 Posted April 17, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted April 17, 2015 I wish I had a good donor area. I wanted to have 3500 graft but I didn't have strong donor area.I hope I will have enough for my second operation :-)
Senior Member JohnCasper Posted April 25, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted April 25, 2015 (edited) I've had two surgeries and now over 7,000 grafts from donor areas. I've included a picture of my left side at 63 days post-op. Not sure why some pictures post the way they do. Can't figure out how to rotate the image. JoeTillman
I've had ten thousand plus grafts from my donor area. I know others that have had more.
Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted April 26, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted April 26, 2015 John, I rotated your photo but had to crop it so it would have a double watermark. The original question posted by the OP wasn't about how many grafts would be harvested from the average scalp but rather how many follicular units total (including donor and non-donor) are on an healthy non-balding heard of hair. However, if we're going to talk about donor capacity, I've currently had 6761 grafts and have been told I may have another 1500 or so for a final procedure if needed so I'm topping out at just above 8000. Our managing publisher Bill has had 9618 and says he has some left for a future FUE. David - Former Forum Co-Moderator and Editorial Assistant I am not a medical professional. Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted April 28, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted April 28, 2015 I've had 11561 ish grafts on my head and Dr Wong said last week I have about another 5000 but I'm a freak apparently lol. Suppose answer to how many we start with is between 80 -110 hairs per square cm so if you measure average head in square cm can work it out roughly. Bonkerstonker! http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1977 Update I'm now on 12200 Grafts, hair loss has been a thing of my past for years. Also I don't use minoxidil anymore I lost no hair coming off it. Reduced propecia to 1mg every other day. My surgeons were Dr Hasson x 4, Dr Wong x 2 Norton x1 I started losing my hair at 19 in 1999 I started using propecia and minoxidil in 2000 Had 7 hair transplants over 12200 grafts by way of strip but 700 were Fue From Norton in uk
