Thanks guys, yes so far so good. Obviously I'll update regularly.

HairBeThere/rooster,

Yes I did, but as other guys have already posted, it doesn't really matter: the more FUs, the better as far as I was concerned today. Dr Hasson really had to work hard on my scalp, compliments of the Nobel Clinic (UK) who butchered me last year.

Hugh,

Can't remember parading in my H&W slippers, must have been Joe!

Yes why not meet, let me know when you'll be there! Right now I'm watching the NBA finals, but after that I can have lots of beers with you.... just kidding of course, Dr Hasson & Jotronic would kill me!!! Awaiting your reply, I'll be wearing the H&W cap (dark blue & light brown).

hairball,

that does concern me a bit. Although, why not, bang for the buck, but what if you had strapped yourself with the HT? What would they have done with the grafts? Or was it presented as an option before hand?

HBT,

Some more explanations then. During my consultation with Dr Hasson 10 days ago, he checked my scalp very carefully and, again considering my lack of laxity and my previous scar, said we should 1st aim at 2500, and hopefully get more, hopefully not less. So I paid for 2500 and Christina said that, should I get more on the day of the surgery, I would have to pay the difference, and should I get less, H&W would give me a refund. I had budgeted for 4000 before coming to Vancouver so this wasn't an issue for me.

Not sure what they do if you can't pay for your extra grafts right away but I got the feeling they were pretty flexible. If you don't want these extra grafts (this has happened!), I hear they transplant them right away on Jotronic's head... "if they can still find room", as someone previously said!!!

Hugh,

Was nice to meet you, thanks again for the drink & safe trip back tomorrow! I'm looking fwd to seeing your pics!

Day 4: Friday 11 June 04

Absolutely NO SWELLING AT ALL anywhere, which really amazes me considering I experienced INTENSE and painful swelling for 5 days with my eyes fully closed after my first (very bad) HT of 200 FUs (charged 2000!!) with the Nobel Clinic crooks (UK). I keep taking the 2 pills given by H&W (one for anti-swelling, one for anti-infection) but that's it. No pain anywhere either and I still haven't taken any pain killer whatsoever, though H&W gave me some Tylenol JIC. Great experience. Only thing is, it's now 04:30am in the UK and the jetlag kicks in: I've been wide awake since 03:00!

question for Jotronic,

What does H&W do, if you can't afford to pay the extra $$ for the better yield? Do they discard the grafts? or do they do the right thing? Most people are going into this maxing there $$ for the most grafts, for obvious reasons.

Hairbethere,

Good question. Why do you think we have so many techs? They're patients that couldn't pay their bill!

Each case is different but we're not a bunch of greedy Enron executives. I can't give you a blanket answer because their isn't one.We simply address each case and take care of it appropriately and fairly.

The Truth is in The Results

Or, they become patient advisors like Joe...icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif..God knows with as many grafts as he got, he'll be there forever!!...So many waitresses, so little time eh?

Hi Hairworthy! Glad I finally found your HT pictures! Guess it would have been easier if I had looked under the "Post Your HT Pictures" forum first! You got a super job done by Dr Hasson and congratulations on the extra grafts to boot! Did you have any problems sleeping that first night? I am a little concerned about the sleeping part since I naturally sleep on my back. May try sleeping in a chair like another poster wrote about doing.

That is great you had little or no facial swelling also! I can only hope my HT goes half as well as yours did!

Congratulations!

Day 8: Tuesday 15 June 04.

And I'm still waiting for some swelling to begin.... looks like I might have to wait a long time!

HairQless,

After the surgery I was given a sleeping pill called Imovane, which made me smile caus' these things don't usually work well on me, & believe me I tried loads of different brands to get to sleep on my frequent longhaul flights. Anyway, in the evening I went for a drink with Jotronic & Hugh Jorgan, & when I came back to my room around 10:30pm I decided to give it a go. Took the pill, had a nice bath, started reading on my bed (I too sleep on my back)... & next thing I know it's 9am! Unbelievable. Good thing I had used the pillow cover supplied by H&W though, as it was covered with blood coming from the donor area. So this turned out to be one the best nights I've had for a long time!

Re: your HT I'm sure you'll be just as happy as I am now! When is your big day again? Don't forget to order the smoked salmon chowder at the Granville hotel, that is one tasty dish!

Hairworthy.....Ah yes, I forgot about the sleeping pill you get. That will help a lot I am sure...at least you made it sound good! I was also wondering if the Hasson and Wong team were going to drive the costs up at a stay at the Granville from all the stained pillow cases they had to replace but it sounds like H&W already had that part covered, (with their own case covers). Good deal!

Also good to know that it's ok to sleep on the staples with out fear of messing anything up.

My HT is paid in advance and scheduled to happen with Dr Hasson on the 19th of July, so I have about 5 weeks to go now. Reading all these posts has helped me 110% on preparing for this and I am ready!

You also talked me into that Salmon Chowder, sounds excellent!

I'm scheduled for early August with Dr. Hasson so I look forward to tracking the progress of you H&W fellows just ahead of me: Hairworthy, Hugh Jordan, HairQless, Wanna-HT (others?)

Hairworthy, I am a yank like most posters here but I did spend a year of my life in Surrey (Godalming to be precise) and it is a lovely area.

Good Luck to All!

Yep, Godalming is about 15 minutes away from my place... and a long way from Vancouver! That flight back was actually the worst part of my H&W experience:

1. The staples triggered the metal detector at the airport & I had to remove my cap to show the guy I was not hiding anything

2. Keeping a cap on for 10h in a confined space (even though I travelled business) is just a pain.

Day 9 today, a few scabs fell yesterday evening whilst shampooing. Can't wait for the staples removal & the buzz, scheduled on Tuesday next week (Dr Hasson recommended 14 days instead of the usual 10).

bummer to set the metal detector off in the airport -HAHAHAHAHAHA - didn't happen to me (wonder why?). My wife yanked out my staples yesterday at day 8. Dr. Wong, unlike Dr. Hasson, puts desolvable sutures in the underlying tissue before stapling the wound. This provides extra reinforcement. I can honestly say that having those staples out is a HUGE relief.

Looking forward to seeing your updated pics. I am having camera issues right now but will be getting new pics up when I get a new cam. Taking 6 days off work has taken its toll on my free time.

It was great meeting you in Vancouver and looking forward to your progress.

Hairworthy........I have another question for you since your recent visit to Dr Hasson.

Before the HT when you and the Dr. were discussing the procedure, is the topic brought up of which direction the lateral slits will be made?

I was wondering if hairstyle can determine by the lateral slit direction? If made to the left the hair would grow left (right to the right) or straight ahead so that any style can be worked?

Well we did not discuss that, however I think the general idea behind using lateral slits and shaving the recipient area is to enable the grafts to be placed in the same "direction" as existing adjacent hair. Jotronic is a good example that "any style can be worked" as you say: during the few days I was in Vancouver I saw him with 3 different hairstyles (all front, on one side & all back).

Three hair styles! I can understand that, I imagine after not having the hair for so long, then getting it back, a lot of time is spent primping, combing, playing with the new "toys" on top of the head!

Hairworthy,

Why did Dr. Hasson recommend 14 days for the staples versus the usual 10? I ask because I am going to H&W (Hasson) in August and I have been thinking about staying out in Vancouver and having the staples removed there. However, I don't want to do this if I have to wait 14 days. I actually thought you could have the staples removed after 8 days, but obviously it is better to do whatever is necessary to minimize the scar.

Hugh / Hairworthy / Jotronic (if you are reading this),

Do you know why Hasson doesn't also use dissolvable sutures like Wong does? I am surprised they both don't use the same method for harvetsing the donor strip. Could the amount of days before staple removal be brought down with the use of dissolvable sutures?
