Beard transplant donor site question

The men in my family go bald very early but it seems the cosmic payback has been fantastic beard growth. My father may have finished high school bald, but he walked with a very full, very dark beard as his consolation prize.

 

I haven't been so lucky.

 

I was able to grow pretty great sideburns from around 13 or so, and the beard kept filling in towards my face as I got older, but it kind of just stopped when it got to the goatee area. I have very thick coverage that is a mix of dark red, light brown and blond on the sides of my face, but the mustache is very blond and relatively sparse, and the goatee area is thin and much lighter than the rest of my facial hair.

 

I talked to some people about the possibility of a transplant, but they wanted $6,000 to fill in the area under my lip and would only take donor hair from my scalp, which is not even close in color to my beard or my mustache. I never even talked about any transplanting in the mustache area.

 

I've heard of some people taking donor hair from the chest hair and was wondering if any other doctors who have done beard transplants have taken from other donor areas besides the scalp. If so, what areas are available?

 

Also, does the donor area tend to have lots of scarring? If not, is it possible to take donor hair from say, the neckline of my beard and place it in the goatee area?

It is certainly possible to harvest donor hair from your neck and transplanted it to your beard. Here is a video from recommended hair transplant surgeon Dr, Sanusi Umar which shows extraction sites on the face and neck one year after surgery.

Very important your Dr uses a small 0.8 manual punch in my opinion, as I have not one mark on my face.

 

Beard takes a lot longer to grow I found so keep this in mind also.

Yes, if you go to an experienced doctor, there is no reason they can't take from your neck line. It would be good if you could post a pick of the neck though. I assume your talking about a beard to beard transplant.

 

It's not cheap to go to a really good doc for fue or bht, so I can't say that $6k is out of line at all, but it will last a life time. How old are you and what state do you live in?

The OP was inquiring about a BHT to fill in the normally lighter goat tee area of his already dense beard. I assumed that the post was a spoof.

There are many guys who would die to have a beard that thick and dense.

 

And it's not unusual to have some sparse spots because that makes it look natural IMHO.

These pictures are kind of best angle, best lighting kind of deal, I'll see if I can find a picture that shows the contrast a bit better. I do appreciate the compliment very much though. I would certainly prefer beard to beard, as I imagine it would be as close as I could get to a color match. If I were to go through with it I wouldn't mind the 6k price, but my concern was that the doctor I was talking to would only do hair from my head, which is very blond and doesn't even match the blond that is in my beard naturally. I am 30 and live in Oregon. I don't think I have any pictures of my neck unshaven, but the darker color of most of the beard continues down almost to my chest. I would probably have an area that could be a donor that is about 2 to 2 1/2 times the size of the area I'm considering having done.

 

 

 

Having looked at these pictures I think perhaps the issue I have been taking may not be coverage, but contrast of light and dark. I have very light skin and the blond of my mustache etc. kinda disappears on it. That being said I have been considering using a type of henna beard dye that is very close to the color of the main of my beard, somewhat more red. I think it may be a viable option to take away from the contrast of light and dark of my beard. I figure it can't hurt to try, you know?

I appreciate the kind compliments from everyone and kind of feel like an a**, perhaps I've been holding the beard coverage on my face to a much too high standard. Like I said the men in my family are known for having very full, very dark beards and maybe I shouldn't get down on myself for not having the typical family beard.

 

Below is a picture of my grandpa's beard, which is standard of my family. I took on more of the light from the Swedish from my mothers side, I suppose. I hope that makes my beard envy a little more understandable.

I went ahead with this stuff: Ginger Blonde Henna Beard Dye | Henna Color Lab - Henna Hair Dye

because it's all natural, long lasting according to user reviews, pretty close to the light red I already have in my beard and on my body, and because it only dyes the lighter hair and doesn't bleach/dye the darker ones. I'll post pictures once I use it. If I don't like it, I'll just shave it off and start over

Dr. Patrick Mwamba has performed beard to beard transplants. You shouldn't need high density to a achieve a big effect. From a glance of your photos, your beard would make an excellent donor source.
