Senior Member m0dthispny Posted May 19, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 19, 2014 i'll be going to las vegas in 2 weeks, and will be going to a pool party. by then, i'll be 4 months and 2 weeks post-op..is it necessary to still wear a hat? i will put on sunblock on my face, but my head is full of hair now, so not sure if i can get sunblock on my scalp. majority of post-op redness has also subsided, and i'd prefer to show off my new hair instead of covering it with a hat. i will ask the dr. as well, but curious what you guys think. Senior Member cloudy Posted May 19, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 19, 2014 Go there, throw away the hat and jump into pool full of chicks. You know what to do later
Senior Member Dutch Posted May 19, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 19, 2014 I was adviced to avoid the hot sun for 6 months. Sounds excessive but better safe than sorry? I'd use spray sun tan lotion to get some protection. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2329
Senior Member voxman Posted May 19, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 19, 2014 It will be in the high 90's...and full sun. You will get a sunburn. Guaranteed. Wear sunglasses and a baseball cap turned sideways and you'll appear ultra-hip. Show off your hair in the shade. I'm serious. Just look at my face. My Hair Regimen: Lather, Rinse, Repeat. Senior Member voxman Posted May 19, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 19, 2014 You can easily get sunburned on the top of your head in between the hair follicles. Too much exposure to the suns UV rays with no hat, and the top of you head CAN get sunburned. Been there after a round of golf with cloud cover! And most agree that a sunburned head is dangerous to your newly minted hair. All kinds of chemical reactions on you skin occur in a sunburn so why take the chance? I'm serious. Just look at my face. Senior Member Since21 Posted May 20, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted May 20, 2014 I read about this very thing a couple of months ago before I took a trip to South Africa. The consensus was to stay covered up and protected in the sun for at least 6 months. I believe Dr. Feller weighed in on the subject and advised the same. He cited a patient who got severe sunburn in his graft site at around 4-5 months and had to be treated with topical steroids. 3,425 FUT grafts with Dr Raymond Konior - Nov 2013 1,600 FUE grafts with Dr Raymond Konior - Dec 2018
