Recommended Posts

SMP seems pretty nice.. However, I do not need the bald look. Most pics I do see are for super short buzz cuts.

I personally need to mimic hair on my my scalp.. I keep my hair longer... Did anyone have smp for a fuller look?

The other problem is my hair get oily.. After 5 hours my hair looks thinner due to the oil scalp..

Thanks for reading!! ;)

there are 1-2 examples on here, will try to dig up the link. one of the guys said it made an improvement

I've been contemplating having SMP for some more illusion of density in some small regions in my front, although I'm 98% happy with my HT results.

Seems the consensus from both veterans and doctors is to go with temporary SMP.

I have contacted a few clinics and have been advised that the naturalness is not there when the hair is wet, if we cut our hair shorter or if we lose further hair so be aware of those points.

Seems some people have gone this route and actually regretted it and later had it lasered off.

Have to research this one carefully just like HT's

Yes, first pic is hair brushed back and rest forward.. Looks good on him.. I think I need least 100 pics of great results before I dive in for SMP... also, what happens when the sun hits my hair my brown hair gets lighter..

I was considering more on my crown.. Do not see to many examples on the www either...Dr. Mohebi did the smp?

yep and the sun will also fade the SMP too.

I think Jotronic and Hairthere have both had some SMP work into their crown, try to search their results

1). I keep my hair longer... Did anyone have smp for a fuller look?

2) he other problem is my hair get oily.. After 5 hours my hair looks thinner due to the oil scalp..

1) Yes, absolutely a massive benefit, whether my hair is 2 inches or 2mm

P.S. I know words are cheap and pics are deceptive but take this for what it is worth. Caveat: You MUST have some hair, esp. a definitive hair line and some hair 'back there'

2) Bleach it. It will be dryer and a rougher texture. You won't feature in a shampoo commercial but you will 90% fix that problem. If you don't want bleached hair, then tint the hair darker again.

Scar5,

Which company do you recommend for adding density to existing hair via SMP? Did you have permanent or temporary done, and if temp what color ink?

it makes longer hair look fuller....from looking in the mirror you wont see as much lighter scalp. It definately works, its not a miracle but you WILL notice a difference...

we should remember that SMP is in its infancy, so temporary would be the best way to go, but can be pricey getting it redone every year....but nonetheless a safe option...

remember when transplants first came out and what disasters came of those?????

Scar5,

1) Don't recommend any company in particular. I've been to three SMP companies and one laser company.

2) Permanent, in all cases, however the SMP has faded somewhat anyway (I don't mind either, it's now better IMO)

3) Black was the color for the second and third b/c it was from a companies that does permanent. the first was a disaster and they used browns, but I forced the operator to do dots instead of letting her use her instinctual urge to do shading. (She was an eyebrow pigmentation specialist)

In respect to adding density, they won't do anything other than what they always do. It is like buying a T-shirt that says 'Free Size' on the label, they just go ahead like robots on a production line irrespective if you want to grow your hair. They might tell you different but even so, they have one received technique, which they learned and refined and that is what they will give you. Whether or not you should go for the added density is more about your hair than the technique of the SMP operator.

that really sucks.... in all honesty.. it is just barely good for FUT scars.. lot of the pics I checked out on the buzz cuts.. did not look real.. maybe 20% looked good for the buzz cuts IMHO

Still think they need to improve technology especially for brown hair..

I agree.

If money is not an issue, I do not think trying a temp smp would hurt and it would show you what you are getting in to. I think permanent black SMP is a disaster waiting to happen. It is just a bad idea. Imagine having thin white hair in 30 years with black dots everywhere. I personally would not what to take the laser route on my head.

anyone that is considering SMP work seems very expensive.. think its better to try to find a Dr. in Turkey and use chest and beard hair prior to SMP for fuller look.. Just my 2 cents..

how many years does temp last?

From what I have seen, 6 months to a year. Maybe longer if it is completely out of the sun.

There are definite longevity issues that I think are a little deeper than advertised.

You know, i wouldn't mark SMP so badly. SMP has done wonders for me and it has filled up some barren ares nicely. My only gripe is the poor transition to skin tone in the hairline and the grey effect it has, due to the black ink.

Thanks Scar5 for the detailed reply, I've been in contact with a few companies but have no idea who to trust right now with the industry still being young.

As it seems a gamble, I'm waiting for a while except for maybe some permanent SMP into an old Bosley scar (recently had grafts done into it waiting to see the results).

Good point by Spanker about testing the waters with temp to see how it looks.

What I want to do is actually wear my hair shorter in the front, but wearing it shorter will expose the SMP to sun which would kill it anyway. Have to rethink this one and wait for some better SMP options to come out.

I have had Temporary SMP into longer hair to add a fuller look and also SMP into my old donor scars. I was very impressed within the first couple of months and thought it was a miracle, things have faded as I approach 6 months in a couple of weeks.

I still think it is giving me a nice improvement but is difficult to see the back of my head. But judge for yourself I have been taking consistent photos every month in this thread.
