Regular Member GoPokes Posted March 23, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted March 23, 2014 I am sure somebody has asked this before, but I thought I would ask as well. Is it bad to start Saw Palmetto at this point (2 years after HT) along with Propecia and Minox? Really don't want to go through another "shed" from the Saw Palmetto if it starts to work. Anybody try this regimen? Did it work or is it a waste of time and hair?
Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted March 24, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted March 24, 2014 Go, I normally don't hear members comment about shedding with Saw Palmetto. However, it is supposed to be a topical DHT inhibitor, so I suppose it could cause some shedding. However, its efficacy has been heavily debated, and the fact that you're already on finasteride may reduce any potential shedding. Hopefully other members with first-hand experience will chime in! Dr. Mohiuddin Makani
well that is what is more important to know, does it really helps in maintaining the existing hairs and even during the thinning phase. would like to know more about others DHT blockers available apart from minoxidil
Senior Member Rootz Posted March 24, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted March 24, 2014 The effects of Fin should overshadow those of Saw Palmeto. Fin does what Saw Palmeto does, just much much better. So my guess is you wouldn't notice much of anything. Personally I wouldn't bother with Saw Palmeto, those who use it for hairloss are generally looking for a substitute to Fin. But since you're already on Fin I don't see the point. If you want to reduce DHT levels even more, I would recommend upping your dosage of Fin... or if you want to get extreme, maybe try some Duasteride. With Fin you can block up to around 70% DHT, with Dut I believe you can go over 90% (very potent, use with caution).
Regular Member GoPokes Posted April 5, 2014 Author Regular Member Share Posted April 5, 2014 Thanks Rootz, cos and Future. I guess I was wondering if both together is a more potent mix that could help more. Just don't want to shed more than it seems like I have been the past few months for some reason. Dr. Glenn Charles
Don't see why there would be any harm in combining Propecia and Saw Palmetto. I have never seen any studies showing the efficacy of the combined use of these two DHT blockers.
