hair4all
Hello all! Long time lurker first time poster. I'm 28 and started loosing hair around 23. Just started propecia about 2 months back and have stopped majority of the shedding except for the normal hair shedding. If I knew what I know now I would have started propecia at 22. After research and reading, thanks to this forum I have decided to go with FUT and have narrowed it down to 3 doctors. My 3 choices are... Dr.Rahal, Dr.Hasson from Hasson&Wong and Dr.Arocha. Between these three one of them have told me I need 3000 grafts, 2000 in the front and 1000 for the crown. I live in Texas so Dr.Arocha is about a 4 hour drive. Although I don't mind flying to Canada for Rahal or Hasson. What I'm looking to do is fill in the crown, which will be about 1000 grafts, and then restore/fill in my hairline and temple area. I'm not looking to create a new hairline which is lower than my original hairline or anything like that. Just want a natural look back. Also will probably continue to loose hair over time so don't want to over PACK the front hairline. Who would you recommend for what I am looking to do? Or would you strictly base the decision on the price that these 3 clinics quote me since all three doctors are topnotch?

If you have hair on your crown think about waiting to make any decisions until you have been on propecia for a year. If you look on Dr Bernstein's web site (he is one of the recommended surgeons here) you can see what propecia can do in the crown.
hair4all
GoForIt, Excellent comment! I forgot to mention this in my original post, this was my assumption that propecia would help hair growth in the crown, so when I first started researching FUT I was only looking to do the front. So wondering why one of the consultants from one of these clinics said I would need 1000 in the crown. Maybe they didn't talk to the doctor or show him my pics I had sent in for the online consult? Im from Ark and Rahal did my surgery and then I drove all the way to Houston and Dr Arocha took out my sutures.. He also took me out for a few beers and dinner after that! I love Dr Rahal but you can't go wrong with Dr Arocha! He's top notch. Newhairplease!! Senior Member Cant decide Posted January 10, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 10, 2014 Arocha is good but IMO Hasson and Rahal are a cut above and virtually equal to each other. I do tend to agree with this…most people just don't have an Arocha in the back yard..I did go all the way to Canada though!! And it was certainly worth it! Newhairplease!! Senior Member hairthere Posted January 10, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 10, 2014 All three are great choices. I do think Dr. Arocha's hairline work is masterful, slightly better than the other two. I am a 3V as well - I have been on propecia for about 6 months. So far it has thickened up my hair in the front and the crown - to the point where the crown has improved enough that it does not bother me anymore . . . and this is only 6 months on it. I am going to have a transplant in a couple months in the front and the top to thicken it a bit. Where there is hair propecia has really improved things - but I think/know only a HT will fix the temporal recession. I am really glad I waited as I won't have to deal with the crown. In your 20's is more difficult - but.at 40 a majority of my male friends have thinning hair or bald crowns, if they are not frankly bald. I think you are smart to think about the future when deciding what to do. Good luck!

Senior Member scooter Posted January 11, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 11, 2014 I will vouch for Dr.Arocha.I just had mine done yesterday. They were first of all honest, orderly, casual yet very professional and very serious about their work.I had a great time with all of them while they worked on me.I cant show you final results as of yet,but I do have my 1 day post ops pics.I am very happy thus far and look forward to this year. Its seems, mostly from what I've read and heard is that some Dr.s would prefer to put a patient on Fin and see how they may benefit from it 1st.The docs Ive seen lean towards this approach and begin with filling in the frontal region and hairline to frame the face and work their way back and in some cases the Propecia can help cover the crown enough for the patient to have procedure later if still needed. I feel you cant go wrong with any of these 3 top surgeons, but I'm a bit partial to Dr. Arocha because I just had a fantastic HT with one of the best around yesterday, and he's a very down to earth one at that. Keep us posted and good luck Scott 1st HT 1973 FUT's with Dr.Robert Mcclellan 6/28/2007 *unfortunately I have no info on hair count on my 1st surgery .. 2nd HT 3026 FUT's with Dr. Bernadino Arocha 1/9/2014 1's - 797 2's - 3700 3's - 246 5634 hairs http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/attachment.php?attachmentid=54945&d=1389315686 3026 FUTs 1 day HT#2 post op frontal picture
