liufa
I've been lurking since July 2012, which was when I first started no notice my hairline thinning. In the past month my hairline has thinned to the point where I don't think I can hide it anymore. I just turned 25 and am starting to get quite concerned. I'm currently considering two options: 1) FUE hair transplant and 2) propecia/finasteride. FUE is expensive but definitely something I'm willing to consider. Is this stage too early to get a transplant? I'm also not sure how many grafts I should get if I pursue it, and if I risk permanent shock-loss to surrounding hair-loss-prone follicles. Propecia sounds like a great choice, but I'm very concerned about the sexual side effects. I have high libido but I have found over the past year that when engaging sexually with a new partner I have difficulty gaining an erection, no matter how aroused. This gets better as I get to know the partner emotionally, but will come up every now and again sporadically, and I think is porn/masturbation-induced ED -- so I have just started a 9-month period of NoFap to resolve the problem. I fear if I take propecia it will exacerbate my ED and I won't be able to resolve it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have attached my photos to this thread. Senior Member greatjob Posted March 24, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted March 24, 2013 I personally think your hair looks great! If I were you I wouldn't consider a HT right now. Its good you are really aware of your hairloss so you can catch it early and hopefully slow it down. I would definitely get on finasteride asap to stop your loss. If you are concerned about sides you might want to try Spex"s transition approach : http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/160300-propecia-finasteride-transition-theory.html Also I consider the NoFap phenomenon and masturbation induced ed to be serious broscience but that's just my two cents. Your ed with a new woman is most likely due to anxiety and not how often you wank it, lol. I commend you for trying to abstain for 9 months though, good luck with that. liufa
Appreciate your feedback guys. Can I get a finasteride prescription from a primary care doctor? Any thoughts from physicians on the forum?
Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted March 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted March 25, 2013 Liufa, Yes, you can obtain a finasteride prescription from a trusted primary care physician. Additionally, a lot of primary care physicians (namely Internists and Family Medicine doctors) get a decent amount of Dermatology training in residency, so they should be comfortable prescribing the medication. However, if not, you could definitely consult with one of our recommended Hair Restoration Physicians. Additionally, it's difficult to tell whether you would be a candidate for a small FUE procedure. However, I'm inclined to say that it isn't quite necessary at this point in time. Senior Member GBU Posted March 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted March 25, 2013 I think your chance of sides is real low . You might want to relax and give Propecia a try . You can always quit .
Senior Member GreatPelo Posted March 25, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted March 25, 2013 Liufa, You seem to have slight receding in frontal area....but a huge amount of hair elsewhere. Since you don't have aggressive hair loss, you can try Finasteride 5mg and cut them in 1/4. I use to take the 1mg Propecia and it softened my sex drive. Now having started to cut the 5mg and taking it in 1/4, I've noticed more morning wood...so I'm very happy!!!! I would check with your hair specialist or family doctor about this. As far as rushing into a hair transplant surgery....don't seem to be in a great need. When ever it bothers you enough. With proper therapy and a great donoar area, you will be fine in the future. Best of luck!
