Considering HT

Recommended Posts

Greetings:

I'm glad I stumbled upon this site. I'm 36 years old and have been losing hair since the last 10-12 years. I didn't care about it at the time as I had a girlfriend and was married later, and I maintained a buzz look. My hair kept falling over the last 10 years though.

Recently just got divorced, and with everything a divorce can do for you to break your confidence and everything else, I have to get back up and I feel a hair transplant could help me. I have never taken Rogaine or Propecia in my life (heard about the side effects of Propecia). I'm considering doing the procedure in India with Dr. Radha.

Whats making me hesitate is this:

1) Is a hair transplant worth it for me? I'm not too fond of the quality of my hair, but at the same time it may be a tad better than looking bald.

2) Also would have to hide a scar for the rest of my life. If I ever wanted to buzz again, that won't be possible - although the scar if done properly may not be that bad.

3) Need to have patience for 10 months post surgery which will be hard but possible.

I've attached my pictures, and I wish to restore my hairline and move backwards towards the crown. I'll probably maintain a simple look with my transplanted hair combed forward. I would be interested in your opinions and thoughts about this, and whether my donor area is sufficient enough to give me a decent look.

Thank you.

Hi,

If your donor hair is okay you could pull off an acceptable result but you won't ever have a full head of hair. The result would frame your face and make you look younger. You do look like you might be heading towards a Norwood VII. Have you tried finasteride and minoxidil?

Have you thought of having an in person consult with Doctor Radha for her to assess your donor hair? She is a very ethical person and will be honest with you.

Cheers Rod

Thanks for replying.

I have never tried finasteride or minoxidil. The next time will be my first.

I've sent my pictures to Dr. Radha, not been in her office yet. From the pics, she suggests 3500 - 4000 grafts.

I guess she'll have to inspect my scalp physically to see this possibility.

Sorry to say it but your donor area looks a bit sparse to me. If you were to attempt a HT I would only go with FUE.

On a more positive note you have a good shaped head to embrace the buzzed look - unlike my own head which would look terrible!!

There's a guy who works for Dr Bisanga who had FUE several times including body/beard hair I think. He has a good result but while it gives the illusion of a decent head of hair it needs to be kept buzzed. Assuming your donor is better than I think it is then you could go for that approach.

4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013

1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018

763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020

Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day

In my opinion no doctor should touch you for surgery. Your donor area, especially on the sides, looks to be far below average density. So far in fact that I do not believe the donor scar would be hidden regardless of the hair length. I believe FUE would also be a bad option as you would not have enough donor hair to achieve your goal, your donor would be drastically reduced even further and you would have a reduced yield to begin with. That and you may or may not have visible dot scarring.

The Truth is in The Results

Thank you for your honest opinion guys.

I agree my donor density is a problem (those pictures are 10 days after I had buzzed my hair 1mm).

I could go with FUE, but that won't be enough assuming about 1500 - 2000 grafts in one sitting (I think), and I'll have to live with that for a year until my next HT.

I believe there is circular scarring in FUE too, but maybe not as prominent as a ear to ear strip. In my case, it could be visible.
