How long after a 3500 FUT HT should I wait before taking a long plane ride?

 

Let's say the HT was on a Tuesday, the soonest I should fly home after the HT is______?

There are people who fly the next day and don't have any problem. Personally I think staying put for a few days is a good idea. Its a matter of preference.

I'd recommend flying the next day if you're not planning on staying there for a week. The big swelling usually starts about 24 hours after the surgery concludes, so you'll want to do your traveling within that time-frame.

The next day is fine as is waiting several and sticking around to let the clinic look after you. However I recommend that if you do not stay one day and leave then you should stay no less than six extra days due to the potential for swelling. Some patients get severe facial swelling that, while not detrimental to the surgery, can have you looking "unusual" to others. Some can even see one eye swell up till it closes. This usually starts are day 3 and ends by day 6. While some swelling happens for most all patients the severe cases are probably limited to one out of every 20 patients.

Hmm, I planned to have it done on a Friday and fly out on Tuesday. Would it be better to fly out on Thursday, 6 days later?

 

I care nothing for what people in the airport think of my appearance that one day, rather I am concerned with my own comfort/health.

If you don't care then leave when you want. Odds are you won't have any issues. You can wear sunglasses if you have bad swelling;)
