Bill - Seemiller
Recently, Dr. Jim Harris, who is recommended on the Hair Transplant Network became amongst the first hair restoration physicians to purchase the ARTAS Hair Restoration System, a hair transplant machine innovated by Restoration Robotics in an attempt to automate the follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure. To learn more about how the ARTAS Hair Restoration System may revolutionize the follicular unit extraction procedure in experienced hands and how Dr. Harris intends to incorporate this machine into his regular practice, visit "Dr. Jim Harris Purchases the First ARTAS Hair Restoration System for Automating the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Procedure". Can the ARTAS machine truly revolutionize the FUE procedure? What are your thoughts? Best wishes, Bill

Guest mariewoltz25411697
I don't think it would revolutionize the FUE procedure. The risk of follicular dissection is still inherent with the process, as part of hair underneath the scalp still can't be seen. I hope someone comes up with a X-ray or some other type of system that would show hair underneath the scalp. Note that ARTAS only works for follicle extraction and requires manual transplantation. I am wondering whether there are any attempts underway to automate the transplantation process as well. Bill - Seemiller
Mariewoltz, Thanks for your input on this topic. While the ARTAS Hair Restoration System does appear to automate the extraction process of the follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedure using precise calculations, it does nothing to automate the incision making and transplanting process of the surgery. But it'll be interesting to see if this device can consistently produce healthy and viable grafts and enhance the overall FUE procedure in skilled and experienced hands. Thus, I look forward to Dr. Harris' ongoing feedback after using the ARTAS hair transplant machine as a regular part of his practice. Senior Member Spanker Posted July 29, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted July 29, 2011 I can't see video on this computer, but I too am looking forward to seeing the result in this. I also think that the transplantation, incision site is an art and doubt that we will ever see that automated. Xray can't pic up hair btw.
