Dr. Alan Feller
One of the most common types of patients we see in the office are those that have had old style minigrafting or plug work in the past. The most challenging to repair are those who had that old style work right up on or near the hairline. If there is still sufficient donor area left the poor cosmetic results from such procedure may be minimized or even eliminated. This patient is a beneficiary of modern HT techniques including dense packing follicular unit surgery. 2000 grafts via strip method. http://www.fellermedicaldata.com/video/rm.wmv
Senior Member TakingThePlunge Posted May 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 14, 2011 Dr. Feller, Simply beautiful work! I find a good repair job even more rewarding than standard hair restoration because balding, while not a particularly great look, is at least natural. However, great repair work like this restores a natural appearance to someone that probably gave up hope of ever looking "normal" again. Thank you for sharing this vidoe. Senior Member RCWest Posted May 14, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 14, 2011 2000 grafts covered him well. Those old minigrafts were spread out few and far between weren't they. The bad thing about mini's is some doctors tried to stick them in really tight holes and it drew the all the hairs in the graft up into a tight bundle almost giving the dolls hair effect. You covered that up good. Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? Senior Member aaron1234 Posted May 16, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 16, 2011 Fantastic work. How much donor does this patient have left? I think his upper temples/corners could be brought forward a tad to better match the placement of the hairline. But again, great turn-around for this patient. Dr. Alan Feller
TTP, Thank you. Fixing old style HT work is more challenging than doing a modern HT or even just filling one in, but they are also extremely gratifying as well. This patient never thought he would be able to pull his hair back again in public, now it's his daily style. RC, That is still a problem even today. That's why Dr. Hasson's blade cutter is so necessary for surgery as it allows the blade to be cut to the size of the graft instead of the other way around. Aaron, Not much donor area left for him unfoturnatley. But if he did go for another round I would recommend putting it on the top. Mick, Thanks. Hope all is well on your side of the pond.
