Regular Member zo1279 Posted April 18, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted April 18, 2011 Hey Everyone...quick question...considering filling my propecia prescription...I wanted to see where everyone gets it filled (i.e. which pharmacy) in order to get the best price. Please let me know from your experiences which pharmacy has the best prices. Thanks!!!
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted April 18, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 18, 2011 $9 at Walmart if you get Proscar and cut them into 1/4th's. Hard to beat that. Regular Member Mike73 Posted April 18, 2011 Regular Member Share Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks...but I wanted to probably start with Propecia and not the generic... Why? It's the same exact product, just a different strength. Why pay 5x more..?
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted April 18, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 18, 2011 Yes, Propecia and Proscar are both finasteride. Propecia is 1MG. Proscar is 5MG. If you cut Proscar into fourths you have roughly 1.25MG per dose. Regular Member zo1279 Posted April 18, 2011 Author Regular Member Share Posted April 18, 2011 I understand...but it is more of a dosage...in addition, it could be also mind over matter in that I would rather take the name brand than the generic. Senior Member RCWest Posted April 19, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) The cheapest I have found actual Propecia is $58 at a local Mom and Pop pharmacy. If you wanted brand name, get actual brand name Proscar and 1/4 it. It's made by the same people and you cut your cost in 1/4. I just don't see paying $60 for 30 1 mg pills when for the same price I can get 30 5 mg. pills. But it's your money. Go to the Propecia website and check out their Propecia Persistance Program. They also claim to give you a full refund if you don't at least maintain your hair over the 12 month period. Senior Member TC17 Posted April 19, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 19, 2011 aaron1234, how many pills are you getting for $9? I last filled my prescription in February of 2010 and I believe I paid roughly $200 for 90 pills of generic proscar at Walmart. I have to get my new script filled this week and I was just wondering if the price dropped. On a related note, does anyone know how long proscar keeps? Senior Member aaron1234 Posted April 19, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 19, 2011 TC17, I get 30 pills and it lasts me about 3 months. I believe it is a generic version of proscar. I remember the days when I paid over $200 for a three month supply of propecia. And I used to pay $80 for generic proscar at Walmart. Not anymore thanks to a new generic promo. Do you need a special perscription, even if you already have a propecia perscription? Or what steps did you need to take?
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted April 25, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 25, 2011 I go straight through SMG. Some docs do it, some don't. Do you mean that some doctors recommend using the SMG pharmacy?
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted April 26, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted April 26, 2011 No, SMG as in Shapiro Medical Group - through my doctor Paul Shapiro. No online pharmacy. Just go through a hair restoration clinic. Senior Member TC17 Posted May 3, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 3, 2011 I just filled my newest script from a Target in Columbus, Ohio, and I paid $9 for 30 pills. At that rate, my entire year will only cost me $27!
Senior Member aseda1979 Posted May 4, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 4, 2011 When buying generic Finasteride from Walmart, look at the numbers that are printed on the pill. You can do a search online on those numbers and you will find the manufacturer. The ones that I get from walmart are blue, and the brand is TEVA, an israeli Lab. If you look at the prescription bottle, the brand is printed on the prescription sheet bonded to the bottle. I think Walmart gets TEVA for all of its pharmacies though Im not sure. If its blue then it probably is. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1989
Senior Member RCWest Posted May 5, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted May 5, 2011 Teva makes high quality pharmaceuticals. You should have no problem with them. I have several other medications made by Teva and they work fine. Guest mariewoltz25411697
You can buy 1mg Fiansteride medicines from other countries, like India. As US patent laws don't apply to some countries, they can sell this drug for a cheap price. I bought about 400 tabs for my personal use. But stopped using them after I experienced brain fog issues with Finasteride. They would expire an year from now. If anyone wants them, I am willing to give them away for a small price.
