Senior Member Janna Posted January 26, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted January 26, 2011 Dr. Ron Shapiro - 1523 Grafts - Limited donor - 8 Months Post Op This patient in his early 60’s had prior surgeries over 10 years ago by another clinic. He had several things going against him – one main reason being his donor looked pretty tapped out, not to mention he has less than average donor density. Dr. Ron Shapiro cleaned up the previous donor scar and tried to harvest as much donor as possible. The strip size was 1.2cm width x 31cm length. Given the size of the donor strip, there should have been around 3000+ grafts on an average patient. This patient received 1523 grafts instead. The hair count also indicates he has many single hairs. He has more donor hairs available; however, it’ll have to be saved for another . This patient is thrilled at the improvement made so far. He feels this last session has made the most difference compared to his previous surgeries. He is currently 8 months post op so he has more thickening to look forward to. Senior Member haircut Posted January 26, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted January 26, 2011 Nice work. Janna, do you have any surgery photos os this patient so that we can see where the grafts were placed?
Senior Member RCWest Posted January 26, 2011 Senior Member Share Posted January 26, 2011 As always, very nice difference! His whole scalp is covered nicely. How many grafts has he had in the past? Getting only half the grafts out of a strip that he should have, this patient must have had some serious hair moved in the past! Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? Senior Member Janna Posted January 29, 2011 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 29, 2011 I will check if we took immediate post op pics. We try to take pics of each patient post operatively, however, sometimes it gets missed. I will post if we have them. He was never told the graft count for his prior procedures. This is not out of ordinary for most procedures back then. This practice still occurs in some clinics. Some may give you a general range but not specifically what you received regarding graft count. The hair count, you can forget about it. If he decided to have another procedure, he'd likely yield more donor grafts than this last procedure since good part of his donor scar was cleaned up. We think he looks much improved and won't need another session. But you never know when it comes to hair greed..... Thanks Mick.
