Regular Member GrowPlease Posted October 31, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 I don't have any pictures in between, but as you can see my hair was pretty decent before my HT. I had Dr. Hasson put in 1950 grafts to strengthen the frontline. I'm 4.3 months post op and I'm currently waiting for my hair to get back to even pre-HT days...as its currently a lot thinner right now. 0.5 mg Avodart daily since 6/19/06 1950 grafts with Dr. Hasson in the front line 6/19/06. Regular Member GrowPlease Posted October 31, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 I also wanted to mention that the pre-HT are taken wet with gel in my hair. My hairloss was almost undetectable if my hair was dry and I combed it forward. The post HT pics are taken with my hair dry. 0.5 mg Avodart daily since 6/19/06 1950 grafts with Dr. Hasson in the front line 6/19/06.
Senior Member nikkop23 Posted October 31, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 didn't look bad to me pre-HT, but i'm having a hard time figuring out where nearly 2000 grafts were placed. i'm sure you'll bounce back after the shock loss regrows. Regular Member GrowPlease Posted October 31, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 I know nik...it wasn't too bad to me either pre-HT....I was just greedy!! The 1950 grafts were taken from 22cm x 1 cm strip from the back and were placed in the frontline I'm guessing in a 12cm x 6 cm area in the front from what I remember. Can't say that I see where the grafts were placed too! But I'm going to try to believe in what everyone else is saying and just wait.... 0.5 mg Avodart daily since 6/19/06 1950 grafts with Dr. Hasson in the front line 6/19/06. Senior Member hairbank Posted October 31, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 It definitely looks thinner than pre-HT, but I'd bet the next 2-3 months will provide a very substantial change in your appearance. Just hang in there a little while longer. Are you taking meds or doing anything for loss prevention? -Sorry, saw the Avodart regimen in your signature after posting.... Regular Member GrowPlease Posted October 31, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 Hey thanks specks and bank for the encouragement. I wanted to ask everyone what they thought about starting up minoxidil again. I used to use the stuff for about 1.5 years with very good results and I stopped using 2 months pre-op. I haven't used the stuff now for 6 months total and I've been told that my thinning might be due 1 of 3 things: #1 minoxidil dependent hair dissappearing. The reason I didn't want to start up again was b/c of annoyance of use and also I didn't want the transplanted hairs to become minoxidil dependent and have to use the stuff for the rest of my life.... #2 Avodart shed #3 shockloss from the surgery or maybe a combination of the above 3 things But if its true that my thinness is due to minoxidil dependent hairs dying than I'd def. be willing to start up again to try to salvage any of those dying hairs or at least speed up the growth of my grafts. Do you guys think I should start it up? The rogaine foam looks promising. Remember I havnen't used minoxidil for 6 months now...should I start up right away or give the grafts some time to kick in? Any comments suggestions would be awesome! Thanks again everyone who's dropped me line and for listening to my story. 0.5 mg Avodart daily since 6/19/06 1950 grafts with Dr. Hasson in the front line 6/19/06. Senior Member hairbank Posted October 31, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 GP- I don't know about starting the Minox again...............my suggestion would be only if you're planning to stay with it for life. The regimen was way to messy for me to consider. As for your thinning, my ideas are as follows: #1- This could be since you just stopped 2 months pre-op which is now a total of a little more than 6 months of non-use..........enough for you to have noticably lost what you may have been keeping. Even if you start Minox again, there's no guarantee they'll come back. As far as HT hair becoming Minox dependent, HT hair is not susceptible to male-pattern-baldness so Minox shouldn't affect it one way or the other. You should have your HT hair for life whether or not you use Minox. #2- This could be...........to shed, or not to shed......it varies from person to person and there's really no way to know for sure. Time will tell. #3- My shocked hair from surgery started coming back in at 2 months and 1 week..........everyone varies but I think your shocked hair would be coming back in by now. The way I could tell the difference was that the HT hair came in thin and wispy while the shocked hair came in like beard stubble....coarse and thick. The more I think it over........I'd stay off of the Minox and let your HT mature another 6 months before deciding what to do but that's your decision. Good luck, Hairbank 1st HT 1-18-05 - 1200 FUT's 2nd HT 2-15-06 - 3886 FUT's Dr. Wong 3rd HT 4-24-08 - 2415 FUT's Dr. Wong GRAND TOTAL: 7501 GRAFTS current regimen: 1.25mg finasteride every other day My Hair Loss Weblog Disclaimer: I'm not a Doctor (and have never played one on TV ) and have no medical training. Senior Member bayscholar Posted October 31, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 Gp- Minox or Rogaine are for the Crown region, and I would agree with hairbank now that I have used the foam for 4days on my crown that I am already getting tired of the product overall. It has no proven value for the hairline region. Your hair looks good in your pics, and in six months will hopefully look great. Regular Member GrowPlease Posted October 31, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 31, 2006 Thanks guys....really appreciate it. I haven't yet started to re-use the minoxidil and the more I think about it its true at 6 months all that was gained is probably gone by now. I think I'll wait till month six to eight and see how the HT works out. I guess it doesn't make a difference if I use minoxidil now or if I start up in 3-4 months from now right? I think I just had a major freak out for the past couple of days....wow...I wonder how many more of these hair breakdowns I'm going to have. Regular Member GrowPlease Posted November 14, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 14, 2006 5 month update. It's starting to thicken a little bit but I don't its yet to pre-HT but at least its getting thicker. I'm over the hair scare I had a couple weeks ago and I'm trying my best to stop looking in the mirror every second but I do notice the hair thickening slowly so its helping the anxiety. I decided to wait untill the 8 month point before I get back on minoxidil. I have a bottle of the foam next to me in case I need to get back on the juice. I do think the MSM and ultranourish hair is making my hair grow faster. I'm also cutting my finger nails twice a week instead of once a week, but I could just be tripping. Thanks for everyone who got me through the hair scare. I do appreciate it. I hope I don't have to go through another one of those. keep you guys updated on the progress. Thanks again!! 0.5 mg Avodart daily since 6/19/06 1950 grafts with Dr. Hasson in the front line 6/19/06.

Senior Member M&M Posted November 14, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted November 14, 2006 GrowPlease, I agree with the 'hang in there comments'. You're about 1 month behind me as I just went through the 5-month doldrums wondering about whether I should have had more grafts, etc, etc. By month six, I was feeling much better and now - at the 6.5 month mark - it continues to improve. PS - do you have any photos of the hairline the day of or days after your surgery? Was your hair buzzed down considerably in the front for the surgery? Good luck! ___________________________ 1662 with Dr. Ron Shapiro - Spring 2006 1105 with Dr. Ron Shapiro - Fall 2009 M&M Weblog

Regular Member GrowPlease Posted November 14, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 14, 2006 yep...I'll keep waiting. I'm excited to see what grows in the upcoming months. I hope holding off on the minoxidil is the right thing to do. But I guess I just have to know for myself if the HT can do its magic so I never have to go on that crap again. Sorry MM I don't have any pictures before the 4 month point. I really didn't want to think about the HT so I didn't keep progress on it--now I wish I had taken some pictures just for future reference. I was really pretty good about not having any hair scares untill that 4.3 month point. I guess it was just all building up inside me. there was that part of me that just wanted the damn hair to grow and not have to think that it might not...or that the minoxidil dependent hairs would die. Hey M&M just checked out your 6.5 month update! looks great man! I'm crossing my fingers for some of the same in the upcoming months. Anyways I'll keep posting and hopefully the growth really kicks in soon or I just **cked myself. 0.5 mg Avodart daily since 6/19/06 1950 grafts with Dr. Hasson in the front line 6/19/06. Regular Member GrowPlease Posted December 18, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted December 18, 2006 HEY doods, I'm at 6 months and the hair is growing. From the looks of the pictures its at the very least at pre-HT levels and with a tiny bit lowering of the hairline on the Right side. I remember Dr. Hasson putting some grafts there. I haven't yet started on any minoxidil and at this point I'm not going to use the stuff anymore. I'm just going to wait and see how much more thickening I can get on the HT and avodart combo. I just want to say thanks for everyone's help during my panic attack 1.5 months ago. The waves of freaking out are coming in less and less, and I have a lot more hope now. I'm hoping the next couple months show some substantial thickening. What do you guys think? GP 0.5 mg Avodart daily since 6/19/06 1950 grafts with Dr. Hasson in the front line 6/19/06. Senior Member hairbank Posted December 18, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted December 18, 2006 GP- Thanks for the update. No comparison.........a definite change for the better from your last post. The dry look is definitely better for HT hair as your pics portray a better illusion of density dry versus wet. You're coming along and should experience some more growth and thickening over the coming months. Lookin' good, my friend!
