No he didn't really tell me why he shaved the recipient area, I just assumed it was easier to work with. I thought he shaved all his patients

Thanks! Dr hasson is an excellent surgeon and i have a great result from him for my first HT. I really can't do the whole shave head thing again bc of work. the first time around i had like 6 weeks of downtime so it was a non issue thanks again for the reply

And are there any surgeon's that don't need to shave your head to do the procedure? I only get a couple weeks of vacation and my work go for the HT haircut. Any suggestions?

MAN! the exact same thing happenned to me last night! I got a strong scalp massage in addition to a full body/foot massage and I swore I lost a ton of hair. In fact i could see about 10-20 hairs on my shirt and i started tripping out again as usual. I'm already 20 months post op and I still have the nervous breakdowns about loosing my grafts. I could swear my hairline looks thinner after the scalp massage but my girl friend thinks i'm smoking crack. Thanks for insuring my follicles are intact guys.

sorry man to hear about your situation. side effects are def. not the norm and you just have to weigh whether the quality of life that is being compromised is worth the effects of the medication you are taking. I'm really sorry man. I haven't had any side fx whatsoever on propecia or avodart, so I'm considering myself lucky...

hairs aren't breaking for sure CJS. I usually always see a little bulb at the end of the hairs. I hardly rub the scalp at all while shampooing, never wear a hat, don't use a blow dryer and don't use minoxidil. Thanks for all the advice however. I might be combing the area a little too much though, I've been trying to stop doing that actually but its tough!!! Side effects huh? I'll check out your post after this, but I've been free from any kind of side effects actually.

Bill: thanks for the clarifying, I actually was one too many beers when I read your post. The hairs don't look like thinner shorter hairs, they look healthy with a small bulb attached to the end. They don't have the longer bulb that you usually see if you just yanked out one hair. I've been using Nizoral on the regular since about 4 months post op. I haven't had any shedding with it the past, so I don't think its the nizoral but who knows? Thanks for all the replies, I don't think its visually thinner than at 6-7 months. Its probably about the same. I didn't really see much thickening after 6-7 months and I was a later bloomer.

no the hairs are thick and healthy looking. they sometimes come in pairs when they come out. so r u saying they might be native hairs that are destined for death? if they are grafts, they should grow back right? thanks for speaking up Bill, your replies are always appreciated. GP

Guys, quick question, I'm like 10 months post op and the hair looks decent but I feel like whenever I comb my hair I loose a few hairs, its not a lot, maybe 1-5 everytime I comb my hair and it tends to mainly where the grafts were placed. Am I just being paranoid? I'm trying to be as gentle as I can when I comb that area, and I swear I'm coming the rest of my hair more vigorously and still I feel like more hair is coming out of the graft area.,...does that hair that falls out assuming its a graft grow back??? or is it gone? thanks in advance.

hey dizzy, your hair looks really good to me. I sort of had the same procedure that you had done and believe me, yours look good man. I always look in the mirror and want more density so I totally understand how you feel. I look at my b4 and after pics and see marginal differences. The only thing is now my hair is a litttle/moderately better than before i got the HT but I'm completely off the rogaine now for one year...had I been off the rogaine with now HT, I'd be a NW3-4. Your b4 and after pictures look amazing. looking good buddy....better than mine, at least you can slick your hair back wet, thats a hard feat to do with most HTs. mine looks good when there aren't bright lights and the hair is dry....

I must agree with the above posts. My experience with Dr. Hasson has been nothing but positive all around. I feel like everyone must go through the anxiety of "will these staples make the metal detector go off?" Mine did not of course, but as someone who flys a lot, I know that can be quite embarrassing. And of course the granvile island hotel is in a gorgeous location as already mentioned. Its actually walking distance to the H & W clinic. I remember walking there and it only took about 20 minutes. The view is scenic too! Good luck!

Actually this is true. I don't really have any valid evidence to stop minoxidil 2-3 months before a transplant besides that Dr. Hasson and their associates told me I should stop it for that length of time. In the hospital, when patients go for open surgery whether it be in the belly or elsewhere (regardless a much more invasive procedure than a HT), they only ask a patient who is taking warfarin to reverse or stop the effects of this drug several days if not the night before the procedure is done. I guess this is because the coumadin is used to prevent a co-morbidity the patient is at risk for ie..heart and vascular problems. Aspirin a platelet inhibitor is stopped 7-10 days before surgery because the life of a platelet is only 7 days old. I'm really not sure for why minoxidil should be stopped so early (months) before a HT. I don't believe that its half life in the blood is longer than a few hours. So in this respect cousin-it makes an excellent point.

As far as I know bank, the use of propecia/dudasteride is completely safe before a HT and actually was recommended to me by Dr. Hasson if I was not already on the DHT blocking regimen. He said that it could only help....ie with growth, preservation of already miniturizing hairs, shedding I don't think anyone knows for sure since these would all be purely observational studies, but I wouldn't risk it. Anyone male with the slightest bit of hair loss should get on some DHT inhibitor before its too late!

I would NOT use rogaine/minoxidil b4 a hair transplant. From a purly medical standpoint, minoxidil is one of the most potent vasodilators out there and if used before a HT can cause prolonged bleeding. It is recommended to stop minoxidil at least 2-3 months before getting a transplant so you don't have increased risk of bleeding during the procedure. You can start back up once the procedure is over. I personally can't stand the stuff, I was on it 2 years and hated it. I don't doubt the efficacy of it. I know it works, I just hate the hassle of applying it twice a day. The thought of not having to put rogaine on my head anymore was one of the reasons that pushed me over to have a HT. Anyways, don't use it B4 the transplant.

You know what? We don't even know what Dr. Armani is recommending for NYC guy. If he's shooting for maybe 2000-3000 grafts up front and NYC guy starts taking propecia or dudasteride, we can say for the most part that he'll have at least 2000 or more donor hair to cover the rest of his scalp and crown if the worse case senario occurs and he becomes a NW 5-6. And this isn't really all that bad. It might not be as thick as his hairline, but it should be enough to cover it without it looking completely retarded, and this is the worse case senario right? Dr. Hasson put 1950 grafts to strengthen my hairline and it seemed very ethical. He didn't lower the hairline to a teenagers, but he did the procedure without thinking that I would regret it in the future. And I think I have mentioned that I'm only 1 year older than NYC guy (27 yrs old). This is a totally different story of course if he plans to put 5000 grafts in his hairline.

ooohhh after reading this thread, I'm so glad I went with Dr. Hasson. A thick hairline in the front with nothing behind it blows big time. And looking at my family tree, it would've happenned- no questions there. Conservative is the way to go.

Dood, you'll be fine. Its really not that bad of a surgery. Anything you can do in an outpatient clinic without monitored anesthesia care cannot possibly be that bad. I'd say the pain from the anesthesia shots is like a 4-5/10 with 10 being the worse pain I've ever experienced in my life. From that point on, I guess the scalp stipping feels a bit wierd, but not painful. Your head will look red and swollen for about a week but after that you should be okay. You'll be fine buddy. I didn't think the procedure was bad at all. Its not like getting breast implants or a tummy tuck which I hear hurts like a biaattch! Good luck man, looking forward to seeing your post op pics!
