Senior Member Mark H Posted October 8, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted October 8, 2006 I'd verify with your doctor, but roughly 2 weeks after surgery your grafts should be in solidly. I might wait an extra week or two before I put much pressure on my head from a redness perspective. mark h. My Hair Loss Weblog
Regular Member Dave J Posted October 8, 2006 Author Regular Member Share Posted October 8, 2006 Thanks Mark for the advice on the redness, that had slipped my mind.
Senior Member rjvw Posted October 8, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted October 8, 2006 Great question. I coach ice hockey and I am required to wear a helmet. I was not sure how much time until I can take to the ice following a HT.
Regular Member cefeiro Posted August 27, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted August 27, 2007 i was planning to play hockey 3rd week post op. I'm day 7 now and feels like the grafts are pretty secure although i'm still very cautious with it. How much time did you guys take off after HT? Bill - Seemiller
When can you start to wear a motorcycle helmet after surgery? Dave, After 10 days the grafts are perfectly secured and you can wear whatever type of hat/helmet you want. Be careful on that motorcycle! On the other hand...cefeiro, be extremely cautious as it is not recommended to do any heavy contact sports until about 3 months post op. Senior Member pushing 40 Posted August 27, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted August 27, 2007 I couldn't wear a helmet for about a month because of the strip ouchiness.
Regular Member cefeiro Posted August 28, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted August 28, 2007 hi Bill, what is the main concern about heavy contact sports, is it worry about trauma to the ht recipient area? i plan to play hockey but at a leisurely pace, no heavy contact or exertion. Senior Member nobuzz4me Posted August 28, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted August 28, 2007 Cefeiro, Bill probably was addressing the concern for the donor area and scar stretching. Your recipient will be fine. NoBuzz
Regular Member cefeiro Posted August 28, 2007 Regular Member Share Posted August 28, 2007 I had FUE of 800 grafts so I dont worry about the donar area i guess. would be more concerned about recipient area.
Senior Member nobuzz4me Posted August 28, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted August 28, 2007 Recipient will be safe after 10 days, meantime, maybe wear a bandana with the helmet or something to prevent grafts from being yanked out. NoBuzz
Bill - Seemiller
Ceferio, Nobuzz is correct. the recipient area will be fine - but because the donor scar will be tender for sometime you want to avoid getting hit in the side or back of the head. A hard hit could impact proper healing not to mention the fact that it would increase pain. Bill
Regular Member fishman35 Posted May 6, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted May 6, 2008 I ride a motorcycle and waited almost 3 weeks to ride due to "donor owies". Usually I wear a doo-rag under my helmet. This helps with the inside of the helmet rubbing my graft area.
