NorCal11
I am 19. I have a slightly receding hairline. I would just like to get it fixed so I am not self-conscious. Here is what it looks like now: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v212/nikebowler/0716081920-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v212/nikebowler/0716081920a-1.jpg About how much would it cost to get it fixed so it looks something like this? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v212/nikebowler/l_b8b...47aa16f1eac26cc-.jpg Can anyone recommend anyone in northern California? Also how long is the healing process? And is there a 21 year old age limit to most places? Any and ALL input would be greatly appreciated since I have no clue about any of this. Thank you! Senior Member badger_01 Posted July 17, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 17, 2008 NorCal11, Take a deep breath...you're going through the stage of feeling helpless just like we all did when we first started losing our hair! The good news is that there are several solutions, and not all of them involve getting a hair transplant. Take a few months to search for answers on this site...you'll find a wealth of information. At 19, you should consider getting on Propecia and Rogaine for atleast a year before considering going under the knife. Also consider using concealers like dermmatch and toppik. They work wonders and will give a boost of confidence while you're researching your options. The good news is that you're in the right place and your hairloss is not bad. By starting to take action now, you're ahead of the game! NorCal11
Thanks! But does that mean once I stop using drugs like Propecia or Rogaine that all results will be lost?
Senior Member hoose Posted July 17, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 17, 2008 The pic of the look you want is why at 19 you are not a HT candidate--unrealistic expectations. A HT will not be as dense as the hairline in that pic; also, an ethical surgeon would not place a hairline that low; as you get older, that hairline is not going to look right on you; for example, it is not normal for a 50 year old to have a hairline that low; also, a hairline that low could cause problems down the road if your native hair behind the transplanted hair recedes; it will force you to get additional surgeries to keep looking natural and you may not have the donor to do that or simply run out of donor hair;
Bill - Seemiller
NorCal11, Welcome to our forum. I can only echo the sentiments our members have shared above. At 19 and minimal hair loss, you are not a good hair transplant candidate. The reasons? In a nutshell, the risks of excessive future hair loss is great and donor hair supply is limited. Propecia and Rogaine are typically good at helping maintain the existing hair we have and those with minimal thinning hair have a better chance at regrowing some. These two medications are only effective as long as you continue them. Be sure to speak to a physician about Propecia. Best wishes, Bill
Dr. Timothy Carman
All of the above posters are right on the money. In addition, you should realize that between the ages of 17 and 22 or so there is a natural process which occurs in males called "maturation of the hairline" wherein you loose the hairline you had as a "kid" and develop a mature "adult" hairline. This process is independent/separate from the hair loss men experience due to DHT-induced MPB(Male Pattern Baldness). Under no circumstances would a(n) (ethical) surgeon recreate that hairline in your case, as, in the long run, that would be to your detriment, not your benefit. As per the above posters, your best and strongest pro-active move to address MPB concerns would be to get on finasteride and rogaine to mitigate your future hair loss. Senior Member Smoothy Posted July 21, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 21, 2008 Dido Dr. Carmen comments. Add Rogaine xtra strength to the regiment you have listed. Might add Nioxin Shampoo every now and then plus Omega fatty acids vitimins or foods. IN a few years, then have a consult if needed.
